"It seemed like a good idea at the time..."

We've all been there. The cool stunt. The simple shortcut. The failed experiment. The botched prank. You thought it would be funny, that it would be easy, or that it would make life simpler. You were wrong. But despite the pain and humiliation, there is a silver lining: now you've got a really interesting story to tell. And you can tell it with a render. Who knows, you might even win a prize. Go ahead, give it a try...what could go wrong?

The emphasis this month is on creating an emotional reaction in the audience. Make us smile, make us laugh, make us cringe in pain as we recall our own embarrassing failures.

Standard rules apply.

Prizes:

First Place: $15 store credit from DAZ3D

Second Place: $12 store credit from DAZ3D

Third Place: $8 store credit from DAZ3D

Honorable Mention (x2): $5 DAZ3D gift card from Skywalker77

The contest ends on the 31st, so let's see what you can do!

Have to really put on my thinking cap this month.............hmmmmmmmm Thinking, thinking, thinking and thinking some more

Awesome theme for a contest!  I will also have to screw on my thinking cap for this one!

Count me in for two $5 gift cards for the HMs this month as usual... while my funds last anyway! wink

I already have some great ideas for renders, but the computer problems mentioned in the last month's thread still prevents me from doing any renders at the moment. But there is still four weeks to go, so maybe I have a new machine by them.

Thank you! Though I can't personally take credit for the theme. I've updated the original post to reflect the HM prizes.

Well, it's nearly the Ides, and no entries?

  • EurocoinEurocoin Posts: 301

I'll get my new computer tomorrow, so maybe within the next week or so I'll have an entry or two to post. If I hadn't had these computer problems, I would have probably posted all my entries already, since I have plenty of ideas.

I am still working on mine and a few other renders for other places in the forum!!

  • MilosGulanMilosGulan Posts: 1,955

I better try to make something too... I have been trying but somehow wasn't doing so good.

  • EurocoinEurocoin Posts: 301

My new computer is now ready to render. It took longer than I though, but I had some Daz 4.9 related problems.

But my first render for this month is here.

    Curiosity in the Swimming Pool

The boy is not curious about what's under there, since he knows it very well having spent summers with his female cousins and even having had sauna with them, but how she'll react about her sudden loss of bikini bottoms.

I'm sure she was only trying to protect her fiance' --

(the story is, the wife-to-be confronting the "entertainment" at her fiance's bachelor party.  Unwisely.)

Very nicely done, jonttex82, although I'm not sure why there is a liquor bottle in the bottom of the pool. surprise I suppose it seemed like a good idea at the time? cheeky

DAZ March, 2016 Freebie challenge - It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time.

    TitleL Uh, oh!

Two friends skiing, on the hill midweek, slow day, when they come upon a newly-constructed jump along the side of one of the lesser-used runs.

    "Whadaya think?", says one.

    "No.", says the other.

"C'mon! How hard can it be?", insists the first.

    "No.", replies the other.

"Well, I'm gonna try it.", asserts the first.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. The moral of this little story is: one really should know how to do a proper backflip prior to attempting one off of a jump wearing skis.

Rendered in DAZ Studio with 3Delight, no postwork. (a whole lot of prework, though)

    Here's my second entry.

    No Kissing

Once upon a time there was a young boy and a young girl, who were very good friends. One day the girl kissed the boy on his cheek and as a "revenge" the boy decided to kiss her every time he got a chance. Maybe at first the girl liked it, but as this continued she got fed up with it and one day, when the boy tried to kiss her again, she didn't let him and ended their friendship forever. The end.

Well, things seem a little quiet around here at the moment, so a little more background on my render, for those who may be interested. Rather than a complete figment of my imagination, the scenario depicted actually draws upon a real-life anecdote from many years ago. I like to think that I'm much wiser these days. Thankfully, the builders of the jump had had the forethought to pile loose snow on the outrun, so, apart from a few bruises, the only real injuries sustained were to my pride. In fact, the latter prompted me to immediately make a second attempt, with much the same results. At that point discretion finally became the better part of valour, and I cut my losses and quit while my neck was still intact.

I had given my bumbag (aka fannypack) to my buddy to hold onto, and it so happened that I was in the habit of carrying an old Instamatic camera in there. That's an ancient film version of a modern compact camera for you younger folks. Anyway, he pulled it out and took a couple of shots of the action while looking on. Not great pictures - a little grainy and they haven't improved with age, but here's one of them that illustrates reasonably well the unfolding drama that I have attempted to recreate:

Thank You SixDs. I appreciate the comment. I now know why people with laptops don't Iray often or by desktop units.

I would also send compliments to you on a well done real life experience render and the courage to try a second jump.

The question is after all this time would you do it again and if yes would you allow a person with a camera watch.

While I never said it, my two previous renders were based more or less in real life event from my past. This third entry on the other hand is not.

Things That Go Bump in the Night

It was day like any other. Three little kids found and bought an old and very cool looking book from an antique store. There were a lot of interesting things in this book, but only a handful that they could understand and could try out. The things that that these kids would be able to try out, had to be done at the cemetary, since one thing needed was an actual human skull. So come that night, these little kids went to the local cemetary, which was known to be place from where you can find human bones without too much trying or opening anyone's grave. At the cemetary, there was an old mauseleum, where they could do their experiement.

Nice, and here is what I have been doing lately :)

    One Book

Here is my entry finaly. It is about my own struggle to write (and publish) books and games. I named it after the saying "A man of one book." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_unius_libri). I published five books in my own own language and now I am trying to make and publish new version in English, and I can't say it is going so good, though it would be better if I actualy spend more time doing it :). Also there is a screenshot from movie "Man of Honor", scene when Carl Brashear (played by Cuba Gooding Jr) is undergoing a trial to make 10 steps in 100kg diving suit with his left prosthetic leg to be left in service as master diver. I watched that movie lately on TV that was inspired by true story and was really touched because it happened to me that I had to stop playing rugby because of right hip injury and lately it just feel worse with years, but I hope it will be good :)
