Did you ever figure this out, Jacob?
Nope, but I trashed my model. I tried to make t three times and it kept looking like trash!
HI Jacob :)
good question,..
it depends on what you want to show the viewer,.
If you want a close up of the knot, then you'd need a reasonably detailed model, ,perhaps with a frayed end (dynamic hair)
if it's more distant, you could use a simpler model, or a displacement map.
If you want an object swinging from that rope, like a noose, then it's more complex.
Carrara's "Bullet" soft-body physics can be used for flexible objects like a rope, but the option for internal pressure isn't working correctly, so it's probably easier, and quicker, to create a long cylinder, with many sections,.. and add a line of bones to it, so you can bend the rope whatever way you want.
:)
I posted this question over in the C8.5 beta thread too. Does Carrara have a log that we can look at for troubleshooting?
I know this is the right place with 3-Dage active. Hi again mate. And I did chuckle at your comment quite a few back about how your funny bone got to dissolve.
To business. I'm ex-vue and in vue you could make something endlessly repeat (as in set up a perpetual tweener. Interface wise it was similar to the tweener interface here but had an additional check box saying (I paraphrase) "and keep on keeping on after the end keyframe")
I'm doing bunches of grass (about 75,000 of the little darlings across the whole scene, not much of which is in camera at any time - created by about 20 grass bunches surface replicated at various scales) which gently sway in the breeze. The oscillator tweener only does 20 oscillations.
Is there any way in Carrara to get a similar outcome, ie specify one cycle of tweening then get Carrara to repeat it ad infinitum?
Will also be useful for my gently heat-hazing and refracting sun disc as it sinks slowly into the golden West.
Thanks in advance for any good suggestions.

Wendy mentioned surface replicators in Skype and I would like to know more about them. What are they? How do I do them?
lol! and after telling Anne to post here, would like to know why this thread did not show up seaching my posts!!!
Another question I have is about going 100% Genesis. What about props, etc? Do I just ditch morphs I have for V4, V3, M4, David, etc?
Part one, more advanced to come
ask questions
part two
distribution map
map inverted, smaller sized irises heaps more of them in replicator
Thanks, Wendy. Hope I get some time to try this later today.

Part 1, screen 3: What is the hot spot?
If I make a mistake, how do I undo it?
Part 2, screen 4: Mine screen doesn't look like yours.
1) the hot point is the pivot point the object transforms around, it is usually dead centre you want it at base of object for replication
press caps lock and moving transform arrow will shift it without moving the object.
2) edit up top, undo
3) what is different?
screen capture perhaps?
image 4 is a render
I haven't given up yet. I need to practice the hot spot some more.
I could see undo, but it was grayed out. I need to keep better notes so I'll know what I was trying to undo. I resorted to closing the document without saving. No problem, gives me more practice. Each time I'm a little faster at it and get further along.

Oh my GOD, Wendy, I've never seen hairier balls than that.
Say, if i set two keyframes and set their tweener to Drscrete and I wantr it to do that same thing for 2 seconds, do i make a keyframe at the 2 second mark and set the tweener to Oscilate?
flashy test
I'm very impressed, Jacob. Give me 3 or 4 years and maybe I can do that too.
Anne, that's not even hard. It's as easy as flicking a switch up and down as the clock ticks.
one shadowcatcher tutorial coming up for LOH
need to bump to next page
so it is not a bump, here is a render of LOH
he wants to do a valentine render
he is hot and ready
