Animation Question: Connecting Figures

I'm working on an animation using genesis 3 figures and am wondering what the best way is to connect one part of a figure to another part of another figure. For example, if I wanted to place the hand of figure A on the shoulder of figure B and connect the two, so when I moved the torso of figure B, the hand of figure A would move with it. Is there a good way to do this and if so, elaborate as to how it can be done? Thank you!

  • There is a way, but I'm not familiar with it more than it exists. It's a script by mcasual. And furthermore I forget what its' called. Maybe mcasual will see this and help you out. Otherwise you can explore their script page: https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts/Home

My advice would be to make 2, maybe even 3 shorter scenes and connect them together.   But make them so they are seamlessly or continuously. so that it appear as one long complete scene,    I have done that many times when creating complex animations. I found sometimes its best to break up the longer complex scenes into  more than one.    Its more or less a technique of creating an animations seeing it as a director,  instead of an animator trying to create the whole scene complete..  . I would just visualize what you need ( I use story boards for this part) and then break your scene down to work able  groups  just remember to save each scene so you remember where you left off.  You can see this technique in my latest animation ( Karate Girls in Lung Lo Magic Statue ) on the last fight scene was broke into 3 parts.  you will also notice that  the point at which Karate girl uses the magic statue to disappear  was also done in 3 separate scenes.. I have done this tecnque in a few of myn animations.   But anyway that is how I would do  what you what to accomplish

Mcasual has some amazing work! I have been going through many of his scripts which will come in handy for some of my work so thank you! I still haven't found what I'm looking for. I'm sure he has a script, I just haven't stumbled across it yet. His MCJ Parent script seems the closest, but every time I use it, the selected node on the body drifts away from the rest of the body. For example: I place figure A's hand on figure B's shoulder. I parent figure A's hand to Figure B's should. Figure A's hand stretches to firgure B's right hand thereby disconnecting itself from the rest of figure A. I will keep experimenting but in the meatime, am I missing a better script more suited for working with actual figures(people)? Any help is most appreciated and thank you for the responses!

  • I'm working with Genesis 3 figures btw. Tried mcjAutoLimb but am having issues getting it to work. I assume it won't work with g3 but I'll keep trying. Overall I'm out of ideas:(

Whatever scripts you find from mcj it will likely FAIL with genesis 3!! That has been my experience.

That's good to know. I should have been more specific to begin with.
