I don't lurk much, but this discussion drew my attention.

I was hired to provide media for a STEM education project, where high schoolers themselves were developing curricula tools for engaging a broader diversity of students in STEM courses.  Then I was asked to design promotional materials, banners highlighting the various study topics, and could I create a CGI version of the student team?  DAZ tools aren't really suited to mimicing random people.  Headshop's performance, quality photos, and parental permission were all obstacles to that approach, so I turned to Capsces' morphs for AikoToon and HiroToon, my meager library of A3+H3 wearables and complexion painting tools, and lots of force-fitted hair.

I'd say the attempt worked.  The kids enjoyed finding their faces.  The budget managed to allow printing of some of the banners, and other school systems are starting to show interest.  Thanks, Capsces Digital Ink.

Wow! That's awesome! Those turned out SO COOL! I'm impressed with the work you've done. And I'm sure the kids loved seeing character versions of themselves! Wonderful work!

Absolutely inspired use of DS and A3/H3. Well done indeed.

Dawww So cute! :D I like your color palettes for your characters. The green and yellow tones of the last one is very nice!

Oh that's awesome! Happy Birthday, Aiko 3! I really like all the Aikos. I have every Aiko released since Aiko 3 - Except the latest one, Aiko Anime for Genesis 9. It breaks my heart they locked her behind a pay wall and only available to Premier members. :(

I really like the Aiko 3 collage you put together!
  • A3 seems the, most versatile, best and most supported of the Generation 3 base figures. I hadn't realised how much younger she is than V3. If anything, with your work she's looking better than ever. Regards, Richard

Boy, 20 years seemed to go by so fast. The creativity that sprang up around these figures is amazing. :)

  • Starr & clothing is incredible. Would never believe the base character is 20yo. Regards, Richard.

    SV7's Ladora converted to A3.

I got so many characters with the intent of converting them and then didn't, at least these last two aren't adding to the back long now.

  • Now, with a few wrinkles in the normal map, she would be a very unusual and good older woman/elf queen.

I was going to say I didn't have any wrinkles, but then I found I have this guy, he looks a bit wrinkly. lol

Must admit I was thinking more of painting a graduated monochrome height map of the wrinkles from scratch (so it could be yours to use where you wish), then using 'Materialize' to create a normal map from that to put in the 'Normal' channel of the DAZ Uber shader. There's no way I can paint a normal map directly, which is why I use a height map and convert it. Black=deeper wrinkle, grey (rgb128/128/128)=default surface and white=max wrinkle height.

I have only done fairly simplistic height maps to be turned into normal maps as my painting skills are not great, but it's how I got the pattern on the surface of the engraved pens in the image below. All the pens use the same mesh, and all that is needed to create the pattern is the normal map:

    Richard

I got what you where implying (this time), but I trend towards lazy so I looked for an easier option first (^that one was no good). Also...  my painting skills kinda suck. I use every trick I can think of to get around it, and it does give passable results most of the time, but usable wrinkles I can't do yet.

I mostly use 3DL for renders, and the main shader I use (urbersurface1) can't use normal maps. But thanks for the heads up on Materialize, I was wondering how to make normal maps and that should come in handy.

However you could use a similiar idea in 3DL using/making  the Bump and Displacement maps ......
