My comic panels with Manga Studios + Manga Style Shaders

SammagiSammagi Posts: 137

Hi everyone, a while back I was working on combining Manga and western style for my graphic novel. Posting these to show how far I'm getting in terms of what I wanted. I'm working on drawing (and building) scenes using Blender and Photoshop while posing and shading my characters.

Very cool!  I love comics although I am terrible and making them lol.  I do enjoy reading them though.  This looks interesting so far will be interested to see where you go with it.

Your panels look great! Are you basing from DAZ/POSER characters? I like the way the beards look.

Thanks all. As for where I'm basing the characters, I do a mix of rendering some of the characters while do a bit of screentoning from Manga Studios itself. the beard is from Unshaven beard, which took me a while to work with.

familiar, yet a style of your own, very nice work and what sounds like a manageable workflow - bravo! I'm also intrigued by the story. put a link in your sig!

This is concept design or an orge, using a particular demon as the base form. I wanted to make a humanoid creature that's 8ft tool, a large jaw and hairy from hair, back, and legs. Using Blender, I added a second "skin" around the chest and back as well as the hips. Afterwards, I converted all to subD and Manga style shaders. For the hair I experimented on displacement which gives a the results.

  • Sammy_jr_mart: I like what I'm seeing here. The techniques are very strong. I'm becoming a big fan of Manga Studio -- if you put a little work into mastering it, you can achieve great results like those you've achieved here. My one suggestion for you would be to start looking more at your composition and start experimenting with different camera angles and panel arrangement. All three pages were pretty much medium shots that were eye-level to the camera. Think about how a traditional comic book would pace these scenes. Perhaps the last panel on page three could be larger, with us looking down at the couple being menaced by the crowd? That would be stronger if the bottom panel were larger.

Just some stuff to think about. I like what I see here!

Thank you! I manage to show my work in a Comic-Con and spoke to several artist, including Graham Nolan (who created Bane). He said hes impress as and suggested the same thing thing. I also did 2 more for my portfolio, sketches, and postworks. After getting much needed feedback, I began workin on sceneries and more into Manga Style shaders. So far I manage to create a futuristic City and two characters

  • The best way to start is to make your comic book. Then you can worry about exposure. Write and draw every single day. It's the only way you can learn and improve. You might want to break this question up and ask some manga (I've been reading nonbiri vrmmoki manga on mangazuki me) artists for advice, too. Best of luck!

palles's style is very cinematic, love it. looks like a simple easy to do kind of style until you try to do it, that's when you realize, damn this guy's good.
