    @VortigensBane  That is one seriously awesome image!  Nice work.  It's very hard sitting here watching you guys test this product out and not seeing it in the store yet as, with each image, I want it more and more!

    I very much like the set.  As I can only use CPU on my Mac, it does take a long time to render.  Still the results are impressive and worth the wait for good looking atmospheric renders.

    What I really appreciate is how well thought out the application of the prop and the properties of the prop.  It has a good manual, there is a video that summarizes well and the folders in Studio, are numerical for the steps you take.  Bravo!

    I'm stuck with CPU only as well, though on a PC. I usually set things up to render while I'm sleeping, because it can take days to get an image that isn't grainy. My own fault, really, because I like the drama of images with dark ambience, like the one you posted above. And I usually render with the long side at least 2000 pixels. That slows things down too.

    Took me a second to realize I should select different component surfaces for different material effects (duh), but once I did... Philosopher, that's freakin genius. Well done.

    Also, for what it's worth, you CAN make it work decently in 3DL.

    So, my silly first foray... Iray and then a 3DL experiment ...

    The 3DL could stand to get some tweaking, but there's promise, I think.

    Yes. I tested it in both 4.8 and 4.9 Beta, on a system without an Nvidia card. Even loading five at a time, it never crashed. The props take up a surprisingly small amount of ram.

    OK finally finished the render; must say I'm pleased with it.

    I must be as it's in my gallery - most don't get that far.

    Love this lighting prop.

    I'm very happy with this. As I said elsewhere, I've honed how to pull off godrays in Iray with volumes. And it is PAINFUL, slow, horrible. UGH

    I love godrays, and I was starting to contemplate nutty stuff like doing godrays in a 3dl version of the scene and compositing it in...

     

    This works great.

    Just got this. My renders are nowhere near as cool as others here. I need some practice. Maybe I will read the PDF.

    Looking at others work I would say this is quite awesome. Hopefully mine will join that class soon.

    Well, things I've noted so far:

    When setting dust/fx/light materials, be sure to only select those particular material zones.

    Sometimes you can see the line where the planes converge. Rotating the beam a little can help change that so it's a more diffuse thing.

    Are you talking about manual changes using the Surfaces Editor? When using the icons from the various steps, (2-4,)  I didn't run into any problems...

    LOL... By all means, do read the Users Guide! There are three types of material zones. Steps 2 through 4 only affect one type of material zone each. The prop is loaded emitting white light at 100% opacity. Each zone needs to be modified before the prop will have the correct look.

    If you're having trouble positioning the prop, select the spotlight view (instead of Perspective View, for example,) and use the controls to move the spotlight around. You can also use the "Point At" option in the parameters. (I prefer viewing the scene through the spotlight, myself.)

    When Jack Tomalin releases a beautiful set as a PC+ item, I find it hard to resist buying it. Had no luck with resistance last week, lol, so I decided to combine Balneae with the Epic Props Godrays. In this scene, I'm using the clear dispersive array prop. I had to scale it up to cover the pool. Enjoy.

    When using Step 2, step 3 and Step 4, do you select the "Prop 1 short (select me to change settings)" in the scene tab AND in the surface tab? I'm obviously doing something wrong cos I keep getting just the white block of the ray. 

  • I wish I was home in the lab. I don't think you EVER mess with the surfaces tab....

    If I remember, all the choices are for the PROP --> chosen in the SCENE tab.

    In the smart content menu, one of the fields lists the steps in order. I'd follow that guide and NOT do it from memory.

  • I think you only pick the main object to scale and move the light beam..

    You know you got it right when you pick the last effect and the object dissapears and it only becomes the light rays effect.

    I had trouble following the video and ended up making my own little patch of notes...

    That product is awesome, but I feel like I've used every variation of it and when it's used, it's very striking...

    Would love to see a new release that had some (more) variations.

    I don't know enough about the nuts and bolts to suggest how to add crazy features while reducing render times.....

    I don't know if there's a quality setting for adjusting render depth/quality...or you could include Render Presets....

    My fantasy feature set includes....

    ----- One Click Presets for ALL Parameters (maybe an internal script that combines actions) So I pick the prop, move it, scale it and BAM! everything else is ONE CHOICE. I have MANY Daz products and add-ons and when I don't use one for a while, I have to look up the instructions or my notes..so simpler is always better.

    ---- A wider AOE, like a ghost light that can light up an entire room...not just a big light shining down, but a huge area that's bathed in rays....

    Might be too much for a system without serius scaling back....

    ---- A preset for spotlights..something like a point light that I can use for high beams or lazers or such...something with a narrow focus...

     

     I'm also wondering if I can Save Scene Subset and have a Godray library of merge-able (import) objects to use across multiple scenes...hmmm..that mighe be a way of having the next release have fully configured props in the menu.....

  • For the record, I had a specific project in mind when I bought this product. It was perhaps unrealistic in its scope, but I had high hopes.

    I really didn't expect those hopes to be exceeded.

    Click on the image for the full size -- the light effects coming off of reflections are amazing. Bear in mind this is zero postwork -- the effect entirely comes from this product, which is just plain amazing.
