What I'm Working On Now
Trying to take into account all the stuff I learned in art class about the golden ratio and areas of interest, and apply that to a picture I've been imaging for some time.
Funny how in 3D you are forced to realize that how you picture things in your head often don't translate to realistic camera angles, and the first thing I discovered was that the angle on the Princess' s face does not work with the dragon in the back ground, so there definately needs to be more dragons in the shot to give the impression that her eyes are looking at something out of frame. Perhaps I can add a shadow.
Also I had intended for more people to be in the shot behind her, but that would entail widening the frame and maybe removing too much focus from her and her expression. I will probably add a guard behind her further up the steps looking at something else to help sell the fact that there are more dragons than we can see.
Lastly I have to learn shading and texturing, much better than I do at present. I want the velvet on those robes to pop, the armor to look and reflect like metal, the skin of the dragons to have texture, and the skin to look like human skin and not a dreamworks character (though that can be kinda' cool).
Of course none of that means anything if the initial idea is lame, or overdone. What do all of you think; worth continuing on, or too much of the same ol, same ol? I'd appreciate any suggestions. I'm still new at all this and in the process of learning and following the books and tutorial I can find.

Keeping on working is always worth! its a lot of things you can learn on the way and you will probably make some trips to other renders but as you have already a pretty good idea of what you want to achieve, its always worth the effort. Woking with DS has a lot of similarities with taking photos so if you have some experience with that, you micht try to remember that with your further work.
I think for a beginners work that is already pretty good, don't expect too much from yourself right in the beginning DS is a complex programm with a steep learning curve.
Some nice way to learn more about a lot of the things you mentiones is to participate in the New users contest. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/90721/june-2016-new-user-3d-art-contest-scenes-and-landscapes-wip-thread#latest
each month a different topic is adressed and some links to more information are given. During the month people will coment on your work and give tips of what could help you further.
