WIP: City Bus Stop Poses

I'm working on a set of Poses for City Bus Stop by Imaginary_House ...mostly because I day dream of becoming a PA... ;)

Anyhow. I've attached a couple drafts here, and will be posting more as I go to this thread and to my Original Pose Sets gallery.

Feedback (especially about the poses!) would be most welcome. ^_^

  • I like what you've done so far! :) Some of the poses look like they are done as part of a pair or a vignette. That's cool, but don't forget that some standalone naturalistic poses of people looking at their watches, standing around making small talk waiting on line, etc would really work well as typical bus stop activities. Other vignettes would be a parent holding a child's hand, people reading newspapers, etc.

Are these poses for G3 or G2? I'd suggest if possible to include poses for both since lots of us still primarily use G2 although G3 is the wave of the future.

Great input! I'd started with G3, but then picked up the Pose Builder bits for copying poses from G2 to G3, so I may try and provide both--and possibly mirrors. We'll see.

The guy with his foot on the bench just got chatty while I was trying to pose him. I was no more impressed than the person on the bench... ;) We'll see if he stays there. ^_^

I'm always looking for normal poses.  as in not pin up, not sexy, just normal people doing normal things so I think this will be great

Thanks, Sonja! That's where this one and most of my other work/plans are headed.

  • Mirrored poses are nice to have as a bonus. Usually I just mirror them myself within DAZ because it's a quick and easy trick. But many (most?) users probably prefer the convenience of a one-click mirror. Lots of sets come with mirrors already, and it's probably an attractive selling point. The real bonus is having poses intended to complement a set having cloned versions that load at (0,0,0). This saves a lot of time in loading a great pose but then being forced to move the character around hundreds of units, rotate her, etc.

Thinking about what I like about pose sets . . .  I like it when there are separate sets for upper and lower torso so I can mix and match. I also like believable, non-pinup poses. I'm not saying there isn't a place for those or that I wouldn't buy a set like that one. I've bought plenty! :) But there aren't many believable, ordinary pedestrians-on-the-street packages out there right now. I also like it when a pose set comes with a specific prop (such as a cigarette or a newspaper) that's related to the poses.

Maybe you could get some ideas for good bus stop poses if you check out some candid street photography on the web?

That's great to hear!  I don't mind the other poses, they have their place as well but one can only buy so many and there is a real lack of everyday poses.  And poses for both G2 and G3 I think are still a strong selling point at least until someone makes a transfer utility that will be backward compatible.

Mighty Mysterio have you seen the Pose Builder?  Its an amazing tool to mix and match poses of every kind and you can not only do upper and lower body but I think it also included hands, head, etc.  Just picked it up myself so haven't even had a chance to look at it yet but the possibilities are really exciting.  Especially if there are more normal everyday poses in the pipeline.

I take the bus to Manhattan about once a week and sometimes use city buses to get around while there.  You see a lot of behaviour, but a few types are very common.  Few people talk to each other.  They used to read a paper that would be tucked under their arm when they fumbled for change or their pass, but now many are absorbed in their smartphones.  There is often someone looking at their watch looing off into the distance to spot the bus.  Mothers holding their kid's hands.  Last minute passengers running to the bus stop.   And in NYC the stops are often very close to spots where people hail cabs - you often see someone with their arm up to flag down a cab.

It should be a useful project.

This is all great input, all. Thank you. I'll be sure to look up some references, and do more singular poses (less interaction...'cause...that happens less in these places anyhow).

Additionally, I do plan to do the 0,0,0 located poses as well as the "go-to" poses. I'll see about doing upper/lower and perhaps hand poses also (if interesting ones materialize). ;)

    Thanks again for the input!
