Totte,
My Mac firewall had Studio, DIM, and Pg enabled to pass through. My McAfee has been turned off during this process.
Any other thoughts?
Bill
If you start Studio, then in the small menu in the content library pane, do "Start CMS", what happens?
Totte,
When I hit the "Start CMS" button, the pointer turns into the "multi-colored" spinning wheel. When the wheel stops spinning, nothing else happens.
Bill
Totte,
I'm not sure if this will play into this problem, but I am running my system without the SIP turned on. I am running an eGPU (AKiTiO Thunder3 PCIe Box with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti card). Does having the SIP off interfere with the CMS?
Thanks,
Bill
Totte,
I think I answered my own question. I turned the SIP back on, but CMS still does not load; not at start up of Studio or when I attempt to turn on with the "Start CMS" button. This is quite the puzzle.
Bill
Totte,
I uninstalled Studio, DIM and PostgreSQL and attempted a reinstall. The CMS fails to function even with the clean install.
Bill.
That tells me Gatekeeper or the firewall prevets it from running
Good day Totte,
The firewall was off and still off. How do I go forward from here?
Bill
What do the postgres logile say now after you changed privilegies?
The issue seems to be that it's not allowed or allowing itself to start.
Hello again,
Since I was reading that installing under an "Admin" profile could be an issue. I stood up a "Standard" account on my Mac and tried again. Still no luck. Here is what the text log says in the installed program under the "standard" account:
I've attached it in a file for your convenience.
Your guidance is appreciated.
Bill
Totte,
Here is the log from Studio under the adminstrative account. I hope that this can clarify the problem.
Bill
Good Day Totte,
I've continued some analysis. My old Mac is running 10.13.1 and my new Mac is running 10.13.2. Could the new protocols between the two OSX cause the issue?
Bill
I'm running 10.13.2 on one machine and no problem
Can you show the log from the cms itself in ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster/ named dblog.txt?
Running 10.13.2 here as well
Good Day Totte and Milo,
Thank you for your persistent help in my cms problem. I finally quit trying to work the configuration on my new MBP with the 10.13.2 OS. My old MBP still had DAZ and CMS functioning. I used the Time Machine profile from my old system and restored to my new system. Everything is working now. I am using 10.13.1 OS. I could not find the variable between the two systems other than OS.
I am curious why the new machine with the new operating system could not run the Studio properly, but this work-around lets me get back to my creative ventures.
Again, thank you for your assistance and patience during this troubleshooting process.
Bill.
My only idea is privilegies or some other file we missd that was wrong.
Posted this in an older thread just now, but more relevant here. Just moved to an iMac Pro from a Mac Pro. Both running macOS 10.13.2. Used Migration Assistant. CMS refused to connect.
Long story short, the new Mac had an empty hosts file. Once I copied what I had on the old Mac (entries for mapping 127.0.0.1 to locahost, etc.) all went well.
So for those running 10.13.2, double-check your hosts file.
Totte, could you please be so kind to specify the correct privilegies settings for what's involved in making cms work? I think that would really be helpful. Thanks
This may be useful too, but I'm not sure I understood well; could you please specify where to look to chek the host files? Thank you so much to you too!
If you check in the postgres log it will refuse to start if the files have other than "owner" (700) set.
That damn clouldflare "Protection" blocked me right in a very long post when I was describing this. (you cannot type anything that can be taken as a unix command in the forum as cloudflare just blocks you (bugreported), but its a "pain per rectum" as you never knows when it strikes, usually when it does "saving a draft" so in the middle of typing you get a "YOU*VE BEEN BLOCKED" page,
Will have to write everything again and wrap all unix command with style command like ls -ls
Post ^^was to this post, as I was blocked I recommend the wrong post
This looks like the problem I had a few months back. I thought it was a permissions problem as well. It turns out that under some circumstances, postmaster.pid is not deleted when Studio shuts down. It lives in ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster/, If it exists when Studio tries to start the CMS, it will just fail silently and Studio will continue on it's merry way except for the above errors in the log and an absolute failure to resolve any smart content.
ONLY DELETE THE FILE IF YOU ARE SURE STUDIO AND THE CMS ARE SHUTDOWN
This goofy forum is blocking me from putting the Terminal command to edit hosts? it's in /private/etc/ on the Mac.
From Terminal:
s u d o n a n o / e t c / h o s t s
remove all the extra spaces on the above line.
If the file is empty, that's most likely the issue. Here is the contents of my hosts:
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
Once done editing, use Control-O to write out the file. Then Control-X to exit.
If I open the file from the terminal, the line is empty. But if open it from the Finder with Text Edit, I see the lines you posted above O__o
Is it helpful knowing that I have the System and the User home directories on two different hard-disks?
Not the forum, its Cloudflare (hosting service)
Is there a 64-bit macOS version of DIM? There's only 'DAZ3DIM_1.1.0.72_Mac32' from what I can find. I've searched everywhere and even contacted support. But they came back and told me about Daz Studio 64-bit (even though I was very explicit about what software I was speaking of).
The reasoning is that I'm auditing all software on my Mac and preparing for the next OS that will no longer run 32-bit software. Want to ensure things I rely on will continue to work.
Thank you.
DIM (install manager) is 32 bit. It's DAZ Studio you need to run as 64 bit
That's the matter: on next Mac OS release DIM won't work
Exactly! This point has been really difficult in getting across.
