tip images are located in the content library beside the .png thumb

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,220

What about the regular Content Library? Do the tip images show up there?

What if you had used  Migration Assistat to transfer your files and ap over? Was it possible for you to have used M A?

Here is my DIM's Install screen and DAZ's Content Directory Manager opened up. Maybe your eyes can see something I haven't been able to. The only off thing I have noticed is the Label that seems to be set 'DAZ Studio/Poser Content Folder' that I have never seen before in DIM.

@Inquire, this is a total new install. The iMac had been the first computer I had Daz Studio loaded on, but when there was an Nvidia update that went bad to my 660 card in 2017, the complete system crashed and the MacOS had to be reinstalled from scratch. So other than my records of what I have purchased from Daz and other stores, freebies, forum tutorials folks posted, there was nothing to migrate for DAZ Studio. So this is giving me now a big headache. I even gave access to the hard drive to make changes in the Mac set-ups, but when I went back, it was all gone again and I did it over. It seems to be sticking now.

My other software I did clean downloads as they had stopped updating the ones installed on the iMac due to the version of its OS, like Office 365. I have managed to move all my files safely to the new drive now. I am lucky, my flatmate has a newer version of the iMac by a couple months and is running into every browser refusing to work on his system now. Too old. Even his Google Chromebook can't open Chrome anymore. And he needs access for his writing.

I hope you get everything working just The Way you want.

I think I figured out the issue. The CMS is installed by default load into a different path than what is listed in the Daz Studio Preferences 'CMS Settings'. I have not touched that path or the file's placement, so I am not sure if it is a conflict between the MacOS or Daz Studio or DIM?

I am going to move the path for the Cluster to where it is was installed and see what happens.

That didn't work. Apparently I have two sets of CMS settings. Each one where I found them. Still no tip files for items within a product in Smart Content, but Content Library loads look like they should.

The CMS settings that is at ~/Library/Application Support is the correct one.
But, as the cms folder is empty, I guess it's not installed there at all.

One question, are you using a case sensitive filesystem?
cms should be lowercase (a case sensitive filesystem will wreck havoc with anything DAZ).
Also, what are the permissions on the cms folder? Is DIM allowed to install there at all? Should be, but I know there were issues with that in like mscOS 10.15 that the cms folder when craeted was not allowed for postgres or DIM to write in.

This is how the cms folder should look like

Does someone know if it's possible to make a backup of the database, do some tests (I wrote a small Bash script to package items properly to get them installed with DIM, but I would prefer to test on an empty database to limit the risk of a mistake done while writing the script having a negative impact on Daz database) then replace the test database by the backup ?

I used case sensitive. I just tried to get into that area and the Location is missing in action. I can only see my external hard drive.

  • TotteTotte Posts: 14,013

Case sensitive will break a lot of things, really. I must recommend to use case insensitive filesystem or a lof of content wont work, specially older stuff but also new.
If an Item calls for the image "wood.jpg" but it's saved as "Wood.jpg" you will errors.

Did you check the permissions of the cms folder?

So my Content Cluster looks like yours. Should I copy it to the other location as well?

I also made sure that DIM and D|S have permission to make changes to all files in the hard drive.

I think you could, as you copy (and not move), you can then, for testing, rename the other cms folder to like cmsx and see if studio finds it now. You can also try to start the CMS from inside studio content pane hamburger menues if it needs a little soft nufge with a bus in the forehead to wake up.

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 4,208

Well, I made a copy of ContentCluster, moved it to where I could drop it to Library and move it over, but it seemed to move into place on its over without the 'copy' extension. I did find the copy I had made had one file extra, 'postmaster.pid' to I dropped that one into the file.

I tried the stop/start on the CMS but it didn't work. The first time all the products in Smart Content disappeared, but stayed in the Content Library. I closed D|S then uninstalled all the products, including both Daz Studios (I am only working in the Beta) and reinstalled the items back.

Smart Content continues to show the thumbnails for the product, but inside the tip files have the ! symbol and say there are no files, but Content Library versions of the same files show the correct tip files and can be opened or loaded into the scene. I tried again Content DB Maintenance's Process Metadata que and Re-import Metadata. I have also refreshed the files' pakages' data in DIM and the metadata there.

Is it possible that this is an M4 system issue?

I looked at the Help Log and there are a large number of error files. Some referring to the 'cloud' some saying missing asset file?

No, I dont think it's processor related.
postmaster.pid  is the process id of the postgres postmaster running process. (pid = Process ID)
Anc the metadata issues you showed are among one of the my C66 graphics plugin readme file which proably have some bad metadata as it's installed into General.

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 4,208

Yeah, someone loves to dump a product's files into General and Other without assigning correct Metadata. It drives me nuts. But when I run across it in a script, I am never sure if it was needed there or not.

That's QA who decides where stuff goes, and anything that doesn't fit "anything else" goes there, like tutorials, manuals, examples

Not to quibble, but food, clothing, vehicles, have ended up in Furnishings.

Really quick turning off computer to hook up new layout of hardware. Moved olf iMac off desk.

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,220

Well, I certainly hope this kind of thing doesn't happen with DAZ Studio 5. I read of this happening before with DS4.

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 4,208

Well they fixed it then. I expect they will fix it with DS5.

And this may not be a Daz issue, rather a 'me' issue. I am completely capable of screwing things up. Ask Totte how much grief I put him through when I got my MacBook Pro M1. I still feel bad about that.

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 4,208

Well I just made another comparison of my MBP and the Mini's Permissions and the main difference I didn't have 'dzcoreutil' and 'DzInstallHelper' listed under App Management. I added those, uninstalled and reinstalled. Still no change in Smart Content. I tried again to Stop and Start CMS.

I also noticed I had the Fire Vault option to 'Turn On' meaning it is turned off now, and on the MBP it is 'Trun Off' meaning the backup is encrypted.

I did find that the iCloud is hijacking the Mac's 'Users' files and removing them from their correct locations. And to add to my confustion, copying the My Library files from the MBP. I need to find out how to turn the iCloud off!

That does beg the question, if I copied my last saved UserData_PublicBuild files to the Mini, could that help or just cause a bigger mess?

Has anyone else bought any version of the M4 and are you running into problems with Smart Content?

    Mary

  • TotteTotte Posts: 14,013

iCloud Sync can really screw things up as you can end up with wood.jpg and then wood_2.jpg in the same folder if you are copying stuff iCloud think it's supposed to sync...

Totte, do you think bringing over the UserData_PublicBuild files that are on my Mac Book Pro might help? Or be a disaster?

Those files are for the Public Beta I think, as in ~|Application Support/DAZ 3D/ are files related to each build-tree of Studio you have installed, Release and Public Beta, they don't mix very well.

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 4,208

While the default load did install both versions of Daz Studio I haven't tried to use 4.23.0.1. I have only worked on 4.23.0.4 the Public Build. One I am used to its features and the last I heard 4.23.0.1 was freezing when opening.

On all of my computers, I install where Daz Studio, Windows or Mac, I keep to the Public Build +BETA+.

I did an export of user data on the Mac Mini and it is listed as 'UserData_PublicBuild_1.dsx'

  • TotteTotte Posts: 14,013

on MacOS 4.23.0.4 is the one to use!

I was tryting to load a G9 base character from the Content Library and ran into a conflict with caps vs no caps on a missing file:

    /data/Daz 3D/Built-in Content/Daz Iray PBRSkin/PBRSkin was not found,

    but I found it in

    /data/DAZ 3D/Built-in Content/Daz Iray PBRSkin/PBRSkin

so could that be a clue to my issue?

We discussed the case-sensitive status of my external drive. Is this the source of my problems? If it is, I would rather now redo it at this point and reload my files.

Indeed - always format case insensitive if you're gonna use studio content.
