The Drowning Pool (WIP)

Hi There,

right now i am working on the following project: The Drowning Pool. I spared the bigger Temple for later, as i am not sure how to handle sets that big at the moment. But i will finish it definately this year.

The idea behind the drowning pool was the following: An old aquatic temple where victims are sacrificed (drowned) to get in contact with the gods of the sea.

I used zbrush for the first time, so i hope all will transfer over to Poser / DazStudio without bigger problems :)

I will add a few more details and then i will start texturing the whole thing.

cheers

Erich

    I love the concept. Might be nice to have some tentacles coming out of the water, chains for unwilling victims, or other supporting elements :)

    I also love when sets like this include poses for figures. Could have some great ones for this with a Priest and Victim.

    Very cool!

    @Pete
    Thanks :)

    @TheDigiVault
    Thanks.

    @SpottedKitty
    Thank you.

    @MadisonXF
    Thanks. I added kind of a stone throne for the victims to be bound to.

    Had not that much time left recently for working on my set. I added a few details to the outer walls and adjusted existing geometry.

    As i am in Malaysia right now, i cannot sculpt the terrain in zbrush, because my laptop has not enough power :)

    Instead i added some more details and will prepare the whole thing for texturing (that i also can only do when i am back in germany).

    I will add some chains etc tomorrow, but i will have to figure out first, how to do chains in modo.

    BTW, i looooooove asia!!!!! Songkran was just so crazy...

    Thanks for reading. :)

    ... added some chains and re-designed the chair a bit. Now i still need some cuffs for it.

    I plan to add paintings onto the stone plates in the second attached image. Something like the mourning parents of the lost victims etc... or something else. I am not sure about that right now.

    And i extended the whole thing a bit, so that it can be used without the terrain as well.

    I bought Cthulhu http://www.daz3d.com/cthulhu-rising from Luthbel a while back but can't really use him until I need a world destroyed. This temple could be tied in nicely to Cthulhu. Looking forward to picking this up.

    Looks very cool. But I noticed the slatting of the curved wall surfaces is really apparent with no textures. And my experience with models of similar construction in LuxRender is that the slats render VERY noticeably. Any thoughts about adding some geometry there to smooth them out? Or have you tried applying SubD to the model within Studio to see how well it handles that?

    Thanks

    @Orphanslayer
    Thanks :)

    @cwichura

    Adding more geometry will smooth out only the borders of the objects a bit. The smoothing in DazStudio works pretty well for the inner planes, together with textures + bump etc it should do the job.

    Unfortunately i have no experience with luxrender up to this point.

    First image out of modo with more geo added to the front, second image out of Daz.

    Thanks

    The DAZ one does look smoother. Did you do that by applying SubD in Studio? Or is that DAZ's smoothing modifier? Thanks.

    I think - as far as i know - daz and poser cannot deal with subds, only smoothing. So the geometry in modo is not smoothed right now, therefore it looks a bit faceted. In the daz render smoothing was set to 34, therefore the result looks pretty smooth, compared to the modo render.

    Hope that helps

    Studio has native SubD support. In the Scene tab, select the object and then corner menu -> Edit -> Convert to SubD.

    Still really liking the look of this.

    Will the mountain hill you have one of the clay renders set into also be part of the set?

    Looking very nice.

    The one head over the pool, have you considered including a water spout mesh coming from it to mime water pouring into the pool?

    Looks awesome. Would it be too much to suggest that some vines growing here and there be added? I know there is a program script that can grow those for you and it's free.

    @cwichura
    Have to try that out. I added a smaller Sculpture now over the chair, because the bigger one would have covered the victim sitting in the chair underneath. Same problem would be there if water would spill out of the sculpture. So for the scene with chair i will add some smaller pipes in the pool, to give a hint from where the water will come from.

    However, i will include the bigger sculpture as well, so one could use it without the chair etc. Then the drowning pool would be a 'normal pool'...

    @RAMWolf
    I know what you mean. The set is pretty heavy with polys already (ca 250000), but i may include the ivy as an option for the stronger machines out there :)

    Smith Micro is also relasing a new software in the near future that is able to grow plants on surfaces (the plant factory), but i have no idea when this piece will be released.
