I haven't decided what to do with Stryker. I'm just having fun, changing his look, changing his hair, changing his clothes... For now, it's enough he just looks good. Really good.
Yes, yes he does lol.
I've been waiting weeks to show this image. It's not a WIP, but I'm really proud of it. The bed and bedding are from the Ultimate dForce Bed released today by Kindred Arts.
Morning's Light
The full-size image is 2000 by 2600 pixels and can be viewed from the gallery page here.
And if you're a PC+ member, it's not too late to pick up the Sleeping and Napping for G3F poses at the intro price.
I like your experiments with making Stryker albino, I had some tries to make albino as well but so far was not happy with the results.
Nice bed! looks very comfy :D
Looks like it's time to take a short break. I have an external hard drive that's going out, so I bought a replacement on Saturday. Bought from Amazon, selected free shipping: 5-8 business days... it arrived today! (There's also a new hard drive for the beast. I was running out of disk space!)
Stryker lends himself well to it, as his skin is light to begin with. The first thing to remember is Translucency Weight affects how light or dark the skin will look: the higher the value, the darker the skin. (1.0 can make for some interesting looks, if you'd like to make Stryker more demonic! lol) Anyway, I set the weight to .25, iirc. With little to no melanin in the skin, the pink of the muscles would color the skin somewhat, so using LIE, I layered the skin material for each skin zone over a light pink, and then changed the opacity of the materials layer to 50%. That reduced the vibrancy of the skin tone while retaining a pinkish tinge.
That bed is fantastic. The best product to be released today, in my opinion, and I want four of the others! (Wishlisted for now, sadly.)
That sounds like an interesting technique. Any idea where best to go to learn about DForm shapes? And also, hose wings are stunning on the recent figure! Oh, and oh, my! That last render on the bed is lovely too! So many lovely details. I like the subtle light coming from the lamp.
Update: Ok, figured out dformers... that is ridiculously amazing! The possibilities!

Thank you, for your comments on all three images! The wings are Feathered Wings for All, which fit on G8 perfectly, with my own version of the materials. I lightened them in Photoshop and added a touch of light blue, using the Dove materials. The image with Pepper on the bed was a labor of love... I love the Ultimate dForce Bed and I wanted to do it justice. I think I spent an entire week on that one, honing the details until I was satisfied.
Something I recently discovered about dForms is you can change the "influence" in the Parameters. You don't have to use the sphere that loads automatically. Set the Influence to weight maps... then have some real fun!
This is just gorgeous. The mood is perfect, her pose is perfect, its just stunning. You should definitely be very proud of this one.
Thank you, Sonja. I am proud of this one. I think it's one of my best images to date.
It's really hard to get the lighting right on indoor night images, when you're going for an ambient light feel. Here's the pre-postwork version of Dawn, my second image featuring KA's wonderful Ultimate dForce Bed:
It's dark, but at the same time, not dark enough. That's due in part to the ghost light on Ragnar's face. It was completely washed out with the main light coming in through the windows.
Here's the postworked version, the one I put in the galleries. In the two and a half decades I've been working with Photoshop, this is the first image I've ever used the Exposure "Offset" adjustment on. Just a tiny bit of lowering made the bed and sheets look black instead of dark gray.
Dawn
I like the contrast of the black against the lighter red, but like so many of my darker images, it's best viewed full-size. Thumbnails, and even the 730 pixel wide images just don't do dark images justice. And yet, I'm still drawn to do them!
Darker images are something that I struggle with as well. And I really like night time renders. I don't do many though, for that exact reason.
And you are right, it looks really good viewed full size. Smaller, and I think the detail gets muddled and everything kind of merges together to the eye.
Playing with the Ultimate dForce Bed... Here I'm using the MICK medieval bed for the frame. This was to show it could be done, over in the UDB support thread. I simmed without the curtains in place, and when I put them all together, the duvet and curtains intersected. I'd fix it, if I was going to use this for something else.
The medieval bed looks wonderful! What fun! You did a good job with the ambient light. Night lights are indeed more challenging.
Thank you, @Novica. It was a bit of a challenge, as I don't think it was ever intended to be kitbashed to the bedding level! lol
As for night time renders...? I predict we're going to see a lot of day sleepers in the near future. Apparently all the 3D peoples work swing shift and grave. LOL
Thank you, @IceDragonArt.
I was just commenting on the sales thread, and caught a typo before posting. This would have been so embarrassing as I was calling Darwin's boys "gorgeous" (and GypsyAngel's as well,) and the typo was "ogrgeous." As if I would ever call either PAs' guys ogre-ous!
And speaking of GypsyAngel, I hope all is well with her. I haven't noticed a new release from Gypsy in a while, so I went to check her catalog. Last new release was last September, so probably submitted in August. Several items I own are now Daz Originals, and or PC+ items... (When did that happen?)
And speaking of "haven't seen new items in the store recently PAs,) Mec4D has been conspicously absent for a few months. That's understandable, though. She's supposed to be getting married this month. Congratulations, Cath. I hope it is the best day ever. Hugs.
I do like looking over the things you've done here and there, very intesteresting!
As for ogre-ous........lol, well, depends on my guys' moods, maybe? ;) Thank you.
Thank you.
LOL... Well, here's to your guys staying in a good mood! (Rosa looks very good, too. Cha-ching! My poor wallet...)
My image for Llola's monthly challenge was inspired by the medieval bed render I did using the duvet from KA's Ultimate dForce Bed. I applied materials from the MICK product to the duvet, to tie it in with rest of the bed. The shape this month is "square," and there are a lot of squares on that fabric. It took a while to find an environment but I finally settled on Baroque Grandeur. Here's one of the early renders:
Notice the godrays. That's ThePhilospher's Epic Props: Godrays tool, with the only the HDRI providing the light. It was working really well that way. The windows of the 3DL version of Baroque Grandeur use opacity to simulate the transparency of glass. But when I went to the Celebrations Iray textures, the transparency is created using refraction. Apparently that was sufficient to prevent the HDRI's light from working with the prop. Too bad, as it was perfect for what I wanted to do.
However, the dark wood made the whole scene too dark. As the scene evolved, and I started thinking of it as the King's bed and King's bedroom, I knew I had to add a lot of gold accents. I wasn't actually looking for the Iray textures when I found them, and realized they were exactly what I needed. Except for the windows. There's always something. When I changed the textures on the room, the dark red bedding no longer worked, so I switched to blue. I also lightened the wood of the bed in LIE.
And as if you haven't already seen it elsewhere, here's the final image:
The Royal Bedchamber
(The white cat on the bed doesn't show up very well on the smaller image. There will be a follow up image tomorrow, a close up of the cat on the bed.)
Kitty looks quite comfy. The bed (Ultimate dForce by KindredArts) is really versatile too. I like your lighting, that can be tricky when trying to do a interior room scene with a fireplace. You got just the right balance so the fire shows up nicely. I do see the godrays speckle of dust floating in the air.
I like it. :)
Back in the really olden days it was common for wood to be dark unless it was painted. I understand why you probably had to change it so the room would lighten up. Funny part is I think when people get to talking about lighting and emualting real world light forget at times people lived in the dark or with lots of dark corners. There was not always the option to have more or big windows lighter colored walls, lots of lights, and such. LOL
I digress. I still really like what you have done and my own room would look more like your second image if I had one like that in real life. :)
Thank you both, Novica and Liana.
@Liana, That is so true. Even today, I have lots of dark corners in my home, even with the white ceiling and walls, because I don't leave the lights on in rooms I'm not in. However, if you do a Google image search for castle bedrooms, you'll find many of those have large windows and gold leaf virtually everywhere! Many of those old castles are now museums and open to the public. My mom toured the Neuschwanstein Castle many years ago. One of the things she commented on was the extent of gold leaf on the interior features. And that was the look I was trying for. I was actually trying to add the "gold leaf" to the original textures! Thankfully I stumbled onto the Celebrations textures while looking for a rug for the floor. I forgot I had those.
I've been to Neuschwanstein Castle and there is indeed a lot of gold. Everywhere lol. And a ton of rugs hung on the walls in between the giant windows since they didn't have central heat and those stone castles are COLD! We went in the summer and I remember that while it was quite hot outside, it was heading toward chilly the castle.
I love what you ended up doing with the bed, and while I agree it may not be totally realistic given the lack of lighting in those days it looks gorgeous
Tha render comes pretty close to the Neuschwanstein interieur (the creator of that castle had been raging mad though...)
Wow.. that castle is impressive on the inside and more so than some of the ones I seen in England. I do not know anything about that one where is it located?
I know a lot of castles in England are now museums or just historical landmarks because of weathering due to losing their roof ages ago. The one in Alnwick northumberland (that is where I stayed) was not as fancy at the time, but where they mainly lived it was really, really great and had interesting architecture and of course they had modern lighting. Parts of the castle date back to 1096. I was in a study abroad program (fall of 91-92) through my college and rooms were rented out for the students (mainly servants quarters). Even with modern type heating and lighting some of those rooms were cold and a bit dark and dank. One tower that had rooms was an exception were nicer, but we had to shut the heat (gas) off at night so it was freaking cold in the morning. I believe royal guests stayed in that tower from the past why it was much nicer overall. I know a person did not drag their heels getting dressed that is for sure. lol
The dutchess (the duke's mother) was nice enough to give us a tour of their main living quarters and her gardens, but no bedrooms. We could also not take pictures. I know it looks way different according to the website than it did when I was there, except for the brick walls and such. :) I forget how many acres they had in total we were able to go for walks on the 'farm land' it was open to us as long as we kept to the roads and paths mostly. There was an old abbey that had decaying crumbling walls but was pretty cool to look at. The castle is like a giant tourist attraction now, but I don't think they could afford to keep it up otherwise. I thought there was a story on the website on what he did to save it. https://www.alnwickcastle.com/
I might have to go back and looked at my pictures now from when I was there. I wished I could go there and actually see how much things have changed. :)
Most English castles were slighted after the Civil war, to stop them from being used. ("I'm one of the ruins Cromwell knocked about a bit.")
Neuschwanstein Castle is in Germany.
From Wikipedia:
Neuschwanstein Castle (German: Schloss Neuschwanstein, pronounced [nɔʏˈʃvaːnʃtaɪn], English: "New Swanstone Castle") is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as a homage to Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds.
The castle was intended as a home for the king, until he died in 1886. It was open to the public shortly after his death. Since then more than 61 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle. More than 1.3 million people visit annually, with as many as 6,000 per day in the summer.
Thank you, Sonja.
@Liana, What an amazing experience that must have been. I've managed to go to Tiajuana a couple of times, and when my daughter graduated from Williams college, (Massachusetts, 1997.) I managed to go to Niagara Falls, both sides of the border, on one day, and spent an entire day in Toronto a couple days later; The only times I've ever left the continental US. (I'd love to spend a summer in Europe, and a couple of years in New Zealand. But I don't see either happening.)
Thank you, @Linwelly
I finished the render of the cat, from the same scene, but closer and from the other side of the bed...
The Royal Mouser
And back to Stryker... Here are a couple more test images
Stryker wearing Kylan Hair and Top Fade Beard
And Stryker wearing Asher Hair and Dylan Beard
Hardly looks like the same guy!
Ya the King was completley insane and they ended up drowning him in his own lake because he was beggaring the country with his building projects and refused to stop.
My parents were from Germany so I went back and forth quite a bit when I was younger. Last time I went I was 17. Would love to go back one day.
He looks totally different with the different hair!
And that cat is perfect!
Thank you, Sonja. Stryker is a great model to work with. And the cat pose was mimicking my own cat, Newman, (named after the actor Paul, because of his beautiful blue eyes.) I'll have to sneak a photo when he's sleeping and post it here sometime.
