    5000 or 10K, not sure what your refering to. If it is the SSS values then they are in CM, 50 and 10 CM. DS units are normally always CM. :) If you want it more clearer try using more desatuarted colours to lessen the effect. Trail and error is how I learnt all this. :)

    That was quick!

    Units of measure helps it make more sense.

    Transmitted Measure Dist: 5000
    Scatter Measure Dist: 10,000

    Just trial & error.  As you’ve said, camera angle & maybe dome rotation also come into play?  Also, frogs & fish evolved to blend in so me wanting them more 'visible' might take some work.

    Set gamma to 2.2 render-side and on the emitter (this eliminates orange appearing yellow?)

     

    First  go to the regular 3DL render settings and make sure gamma correction is ON and gamma 2.20!!! Also check in the scripted 3DL settings that gamma is 2.20! Now you shouldn't need to change gamma settings for any surfaces, including emissives, leave them at 1, which is gamma 2.20 x 1 = 2.20:) The quick start scene has a good whitebalance and overall light intensity, but the environment hdr is a jpg (IIRC) it's not an HDRI, so it will not emit high dynamic range light. If you want more distinct/sharper shadows, scale down the emitter plane and increase intensity (and possibly move it further away), you can decrease intensity for the env. sphere so it won't wash out the shadows, or use a true HDRI and delete the emitter!

    I think the orange yellow issue is gamma confusion;)

    Just ask if you need more help, I'll do my best:) Or ask wowie, he's definitely the ultimate source of information here=)

    Oh btw, intensity of 8 with an intensity scale of -2 = 2, (¼ of 8), intensity 8 with intensity scale -1 = 4(½ of 8), an intensity scale of 0 means multiplied by 1.

    @Sven

    Thanks for info on what the settings actually mean and what they do.  Much prefer to know *how/why* a slider is doing something rather than, ‘makes it brighter.’

    Hopefully I’ll have an actual render in it rather than just tests.   :)

    Meanwhile I’ve been playing around in Photoshop CS3 and look at the time!

    I got into 3D because I was bored with Photoshop.  (Been using it since version 2.5 when you had to feed your screamin' 386 a bunch of floppy disks.)
     
    Now I learn that in Carrara, you can do something called a “Multi-pass” render.  What for?  

    To use in Photoshop.  Oh Noooo!  I was bored with Photoshop!

    So played around with a ‘normal’ render from DS, and also the multi-pass ones from Carrara.

    Kind of silly.  Spend a year trying to learn DAZ and I’ve only just scratched the surface.

    So lets mess them up renders with post-editing!  One is supposed to be a girl cloaked against the cold.  The other one is supposed to be a horse in a pasture.  ; )

    Finally, proof I can never tell what people will like.  Three entries in RRRR contest, a fun game.  I liked one about the old Tomb Raider 3 game.  This one got more votes though.  Just never can tell I guess.

    Think that has me caught up.  Bedtime now.  :)

    You're very welcome, just know that I'm not to be trusted:) Usually when I think I finally understand some slider and how it works, someone pops by and tells me it's the other way around:D

    @Sven Dullah (or anyone else)

    Noticed your wrecked vehicles and am envious.  If you have the time, mind sharing how you do it?

    I would need to apply dynamic surface to only one part of a car, box, or prop I want to look flattened or damaged?

    Has a lot of potential imo.  Not just silly things like a wrecked car, but the tires on a flat surface would probably look better.  DS doesn’t like me trying to do entire vehicle.  blush

    Nicely done!  I love the last one in particular.  Hilarious!

    The RRRR entries are all fun and excellent.  Agree that what others like does not always match what I would have predicted.

    Regarding customizing the car or just tweaking, don't forget that you can export to Hexagon across the bridge, or load in Carrara, (...or Blender or...) to make more adjustments as desired.

    Sorry for delayed reply.  Sometime get quick e-mail and sometimes no e-mail at all.

    Sonja, thanks about "Fashion Police" render.  Funny thing is that I'd given up on the random pull.  Was tired of putting clothes on 'dolls' so just had them floating.  Maybe creativity has to be spontaneous or something.  Who knows!

    Latest in updating scrapbook of pratfalls here.

    Learned from nice person at the Carrara subforum that the app doesn’t like files over maybe 4.5MB.  Might mess up the morphs, or dreaded MsgBox.  Save a file then open it.  If too large doesn’t seem to handle shoes very well, but the G3 & G8 are a workaround.  I don’t have much Genesis & Genesis2 content, so I'm glad to get them into Car at all.

    Yes, Cararra might be needed or just one part (the tires) for dForce?  Entire model of a car or truck obviously very complex and dForce never meant for that.  "Assembly" room then.  : )
