I'm just downloading some purchases and in product updates there is Genesis 2 Starter Essentials ... and the Shadow Thief Outfit and the Textures pack. It looks like it comes with Genesis Starter Essentials now. I think that's what I'm reading through my product library?

They were added to DS4 back in March, when they appeared in my DIM so I downloaded and installed them. I noticed they are showing up as updates today, but no clue why.

Do you have all of your software and license codes lined up to install the minute it arrives?

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,887

Most of them. It's supposed to arrive later in the day on Saturday and we have a lot going on then, so will just get what I really need for the first couple of days. Studio being one of them :)

A test of Surgical Beauty https://www.daz3d.com/surgical-beauty-  Living in LA I see tons of plastic surgery and the morphs for this seem pretty spot on. Seems to be a quick way to beatify characters without going through all your morphs. This is Pearl https://www.daz3d.com/pearl-for-genesis-3-and-8-female with Surgical Beauty and some extra tweaks to nose and eyes...

@wonderland   Do you think that has custom morphs or did they just use ones we already have?  That's a pretty color on Pearl.

OMGosh this is too funny but thought I would share it. I'm on my old laptop and there was SERIOUS mouse drifting. To the point where every third or fourth letter it would float away. One way to fix it for awhile? Simply take out the battery of the mouse and put it back in! You can also decrease sensitivity in Settings but this worked like a charm. I didn't believe it until I saw the 27 "worked for me" and thought I'd try it. It works for awhile but then starts jumping again.

My new laptop left Defuniak Springs (about 4 hours from here) and supposed to arrive by tonight . Only took a week from the time of ordering, doing custom upgrades, and travel all the way from California to Florida. Speaking of which- NewEgg DID NOT post a statement yesterday as promised. Nothing.

Wow! That's a nice use of those morphs... Now contemplating them. ;)

I never got an email from Newegg like you did, but I canceled the card anyway and got a new one. It is a hassle to find all the places that have that card set up for charges, like Daz, and Amazon, and E-Pass, etc. and change the CC number.

Hmm, slightly odd. The texture files have been reduced from 4096x4096 to 3000x3000. I wonder why? (Maybe it's just for the benefit of people who find file sizes a problem in Iray, but I'm surprised they didn't add lower-res textures as an additional option like some of the recent PC+ ones have done).

Good to know. I haven't installed the update yet, so I think I'll save the bigger images first…

By the way, KA is up to his usual, working on a new product that gets amazing results. Take a look at this image he posted on DA: Iray Storm. Hard to believe those effects were rendered!

Thanks for the heads up @L'Adair  I am trying to wishlist it, but that doesn't seem to be working yet wink  The image on DA looks fantastic.

I'm sorry if I mislead you, @Etamin. Iray Storm is still in development. In the description for the image, KA states: "I'm working hard on optimization this time around, i don't want those GPU's melting" I have no idea when it will actually be released.

The laptop arrived around 12:30pm and I was really impressed with the packaging. A lot of heavy duty paper on the top, a box within a box, and paper inside that box and the computer in a padded sleeve.  What was funny was Cortana taking over once I started the computer, and the volume was on LOUD and I couldn't figure out how to turn it down,so this chick was "Now let's get started!  Blah blah blah..." and my husband was like, "Who IS that?" from the other room. I got the giggles and said I was trying to turn her down  (had to push FN with the sound button, for heavens sake.)  It was fun though- all of a sudden the keyboard started doing its thing as Cortana set everything up!  (prompted for email, asked what I preferred for graphics, etc.)

The sound system is AMAZING. It has surround sound in stereo and really does sound like a home entertainment system. If see a laptop with woofers and the Dynaudio Tech Speakers, give it some consideration.

Anyway, the studio crashed in the first two renders, I reinstalled the metadata on all the products and did  it worked, I did a render similar to one I had done previously. It took about  19 minutes instead of 55. (A character with very long hair.)  I'll post my notes tomorrow. :)

The mouse (touchpad) has the two separate clickable areas, and each has a line above them and they change colors too. The embelm on the cover of the laptop (dragon) also lights up with a solid light. Nice, but the person using the laptop can't see it anyway!

    Sounds nice

Personally I can't stand Cortana and wish Microsoft wouldn't force her on us

Can't show you this render because it was the first one, and it crashed and burned. It was with a ponytail hair, Calista Tail Hair, and the same outfit (Boho Shorts) on a gal.

    1 min   29%    571 it  (iterations)  then in 55 seconds, 74 iterations
    1:55     45%     645    then in 14 seconds, 77 iterations
    2:09     47%     722   then in 8 seconds, 78 iterations...
2:17     52%     800   then in 13 seconds, 79 iterations... You get the idea.  The next one is also about 13 seconds for 79 iterations.
    2:30     57%    879
    2:38      60%   958
    2:47     65%    1038
    3:00     70%    1197   (Wow, that was a jump)
    3:30     76%     1432
    3:50                 1510
    4:00     80%     1586
    5:23     90%      2290
    5:40     91%      2414
    5:52     92%       2476
    6:08     93%       2595
etc.  It crashed at 94%   2669 iterations, and 6:15  minutes.  So I think at the latest, about 9 minutes to 11 minutes it would have been done.  That easily would have taken 30-45 minutes on the Alienware as it was a closeup of face/hair/bust.

If you're curious and have the Calista Tails hair and the Boho Shorts outfit, load it up on a gal and render a closeup with  the top of her head at the very top (with reasonable spacing, like we all do with portraits) and have her with the outfit completely on (even though it's not showing.)  See how long it takes your computer to do 77-79 iterations.

Okay, signing off for tonight, will post the other gal tomorrow and try a set.

That looks almost exactly like the one I bought! Very nice. I personally hate Cortana too, but if you go into the Settings -> Cortana you can shut her off. Make sure everything looks like this:

    LOL thanks!

BTW did you folks notice on nhc.noaa.gov how many new tropical systems we have? It is like BOOM. One has a 40% chance right now, and guess where it is supposed to "generally" head? Hint- who needs it the least right now?  And seeing how they were TOTALLY wrong about Florence ("going to stay out in the Atlantic and be a fish storm"- remember that?)  I'm not sure I believe them when they say anything about this next one. They do say head towards the southeastern coast. So heads up if you didn't know.  And Kirk is headed down and across but may putter out. The season is ramping up again.

    Okay, good night! :)

Like that colorful keyboard, congratulations! I personally don't care one way or the other about Cortana but I shut it off just to leave a smidgen more CPU & memory for programs like DAZ Studio.

  • I didn't realize until I saw your picture that, that's almost the same laptop that I have.  Will have to pull it out and look at the specs, I don't think mine is a 1080 I think its a 1060 but I love it.  Except for the fact that it won't run Dforce in the beta.  They are supposed to be working on it.  If you get the chance at some point, maybe check and see if it works for you. If it does then I need to figure out what's causing mine to not work right.

  • NathNath Posts: 2,808

Funny, mine's kind of similar too on the outside, except it's an Asus, and the specs are slightly lower (i7 and only 16 GB memory, but I do have a 1080).

  • I'm really hoping the new laptop works well for you Novica. Let us know how it renders.

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,887

I'm just hoping it works again frankly. After having two crashes I'm crossing my fingers. When I started it up just now, it did the metadata for thousands of  products before it cleared the scene. That's weird because I did the metadata last night.

  • Yeah that is kind of funny, maybe it has to do with the drive Studio is on. Does it have multiple drives? Maybe it would work better on the other drive.

How's this for fun- my husband makes Rainbow Jello and he told me to come get my "Keyboard Jello." He's got a great sense of humor. laugh  (Don't start making this unless you want to get addicted.)
