I've found that with TruForm's vehicles/environment sets, some of the surfaces are not actually UV mapped, so they can't acept image based shaders correctly.

I was beginning to wonder if UV mapping (or lack of) had something to do with it, @zombietaggerung  but  since  there were square tile images present for pieces in the original poser-format textures, I thought that it was uv mapped--or, it wasn't and did not need to be. :)  THANK YOU for the clue!  :)                   Is there a way to set/create uv map for just some surfaces in an existing model in DS?

I don't know a way to do that in DS. The only way I know to fix that would be to export the bits that are causing problems as OBJs, then import them into your modeling software of choice (Hexagon, Blender, etc) UV unwrap the pieces, make sure the appropriate materials are asssigned to the appropriate surfaces, then export it out of the modeler as an OBJ and then re-import into DS. All the while making sure your import/export scaling is correct so that the pieces will fit correctly to the rest of the model.

So, not easy or particularly simple. But possible to correct.

Yikes, that sounds a bit beyond me at this point, so I guess I'll have to make do without image-based shaders on some of the parts and just move on. Thank you, zombietaggerung, for your help!!!  I can see that sooner or later I'm going to end up diving into learning modeling, uv mapping and related dark arts.   ; O

Can someone tell me the correct price for the Genesis 2 to Genesis 8 Male Conversion Script in todays offerings.  The price for PC+ members.  Thanks!

@genaris I wonder if you could use this script from mCasual? I've never have had occasion to use this one but use his scripts all the time.

$15.72. Since this is 37% off (rather than 30%), it looks like the extra 10% for PC+ members is already built into what PC+ members see on the product page.

The only thing I would have suggested was the Iray Uber Base, and you already did that. If there are flat, square surfaces, I'd cheat and create a plane, put it on there,  and just apply the shader to that.

I've done a few images with Hilde now, and I must say she is fun to work with. This is the latest one, doesn't have a story to it though :)

Amazing!  If that's in your gallery, I'll go there and Like it. Your best render of her!!!

It's in there. Here's the link: Music for his soul

    Great render, Carola!

It just did it to me again. I clicked Carola's link in her signature, it went to her gallery, then zipped me to a black page.

Try scrolling when that happens. Sometimes that will work for me.

Also, notice the "#" in the url: [Domain]gallery/#galleries/2896211/ ? I've found the links are less problematic when you remove that stupid character.

yes  THANK YOU, @RGcincy for pointing me to these scripts-- they do look very helpful for these situations!

...and @Novica - yep, I also was trying to think of *creative* ways to get around the problem, but it is a complexly curved, oddly shaped part/surface so I couldn't see how to fake it with any primitive, and I even wondered about maybe a geoshell, but then realized they're just for whole figures/objects (AFAIK), so that wouldn't work either.  Thanks for the thought, though... :)

PS: edited to change a WINDOWS 10 clapping hand emoji (which posted as 4 question marks) to the forum-inserted "thumbs up emoji.   WINDOWS 10 has a system-wide emoji character picker ( WIN key and PERIOD key) but apparently you can't use it to add emoji into the dazForums, as I just discovered. So... sort of not so useful, at least not "everywhere you want to be." ;)

Since Novica's thread if a Miss Manners type review & hint style thread hear is you one:

For those that have a ROKU MDL stick or box or maybe even app they now have Bewitched seasons 5 - 8, Addams Family seasons 1 - 2, I Dream of Jeannie seasond 1 - 2; The Beverly Hillbillies seasons 1 -2,  & other assorted free movies & show on this new 'ROKU' Channel they have started and they are free and the commercials are much more reasonable in length than non premium network or cable TV or satelite. I say that because Gumby episodes are on another ROKU channel and it's ate-up with commercials that easily exceed program length. Quite a bit of new stuff too but I don't like it as much you may though.

There is lots of stuff on those Android TV boxes you can watch too using Kodie App but I've yet to see anything like those quite as good as those old TV series & such.  Hopefully both will expand.

Thank you Novica and L'Adair, I'm really happy how that image turned out :) fun thing with the lighting there, it is the standard hdr that is there when you start a new scene (a lower version of ruins I believe) and than it is only the sun from Expanded Godrays Iray, I didn't even had to move it at all from where it had palced it when I loaded it.

Geoshells cover the whole figure, but they have the same surfaces as the figure they cover - so you can apply one to a single surface by setting all the shell's other surfaces to 0% opacity.

ooOh, that's good to know, @chris-2599934  -thank you for the tip-    but  I'm already pushing my limits of my GPU's 4gb memory in the scene, so does a geoshell use the same amount of geometry resources the original does, or is it like an instance or something that isn't as resource costly?  (I'm thinking the 0-opacity portions wouldn't be consuming additional memory resources for  texture/shader, right, just the parts you do show/use/ and have material/shader on...)

What good is having a $5 discount if the  STUPID SITE just keeps having black swirlies instead of images/products? I can't even shop. SIck and tired of this.

It could be a cloudflare problem. I'm didn't have swirlies when I used my coupon, and I still don't. Not that it's any less frustrating for you.

I see you complained about it in the sale issues thread. Good. IMO, Daz needs to get tough with Cloudflare and get this resolved, or find another company to handle the cloud/mirrors of the site. The whole point of using cloud servers is so everyone can access a physical server relatively close to where they are, to speed up the access, and prevent the overload, (and resulting access denials,) of having a single server location for all traffic.

You have every right to be frustrated and angry, and Daz should be very unhappy about the sub-standard level of service they are getting from Cloudflare. (Again, in my opinion.)

  • If someone happens to pick up this hair: https://www.daz3d.com/fanta-sea-hair-for-genesis-8-females would they be so kind and try it on a male figure? I like it, but I don't really need it, and since I'm not really somewhere where I can render, this sale is tempting me to buy stuff I don't really need, just because it's cheap.

I love how they just keep going, and nobody feels the need to shoo off the cat or mistreat it in any way. They love cats in Istanbul - there's a fantastic movie about the street cats of the city called "Kedi." A must watch if you're a cat lover.

Don't forget to use your PC+ coupons, it's the last day of October. And of course, there's a category for DO's so that makes it really nice to use the DO coupon. :)

I got the Lady Justice Outfit for 73% off with the DO coupon,  $6.98, because it was 50% off. I like the flow and the way it drapes.

Had to wait until I got home from work and bought it, but I am pleased with it for the guys - lots of dials, that you can tweak how it sits.

@3ddreamer    That looks really good! When you're fitting female stuff to male, does the autofit thingie just pop up and you select the appropriate figure? I know many people use outfits across the genders, but I haven't. I don't have time to even do the gender it's made for LOL.

Thank you, I did purchase it, but when I tried to fit it to G8M it crashed my Daz. I know I could parent it, but at this point with the general lack of male specific stuff, if I'm going to buy female stuff it better work easily and properly with my male figures right out of the box. So I have decided to return it.

Some really nice bundles in the Ironman13 sale today.  https://www.daz3d.com/select-ironman13-items , at least I think so. :-)
