Awesome!! Love the goblin on the Warg-y beast thing! I wasn't interested in this product so I didn't look at the promos - which is rare for me because looking at promos, regardless of interest, is my favourite thing! o_o It's a gorgeous scene! And stop making me want to play Skyrim again. o_o

There's a lot of stuff coming out regularly now. How does one promo get noticed over another. DAZ demands high quality renders for all its products so it's a given the craft will be there. So what else will help differentiate and make some promos stand out from others. Creative concept can do that. Today it's Luthbellina's Diana & Jones, but tied in with Luthbell's Lost Eldorado. Relic hunters in ancient ruins how can you go wrong? In case you don't know, these two PAs are related to each other And they created two products that compliment each other. Smart. And we get to check out the well thought out and fun promos.

Yeah the promos are great, and thanks for including a link to the products, something that the creators neglected IN THEIR OFFICIAL COMMERCIAL THREAD! That's something of a pet peeve of mine, I even started a thread about it some time back. :)

You can probably blame the fact I grew up watching John Wayne and Henry Fonda Westerns, but the new cowboy promos show off the new duds just right. Yeehaw. Gritty, lived in, fit for some heroic, legendary, story telling

Today we consider the unexpected promo. I was perusing the DAZ galleries and saw this image by RawArt. The Travellers: http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/51501/

It's got all the qualities of good, eye catching promo art. Good story telling elements, crisp technical render quality, excellent atmosphere and lighting. Now throw in one seriously massive looking Orc. Where's he from? There's no link under the description. Well found him in the new releases list, Ogora. Now that's how you trigger someone's interest.

FirstBastion, And here is one to go with that green-blooded (in-human) fella, lol. I don't know how I missed this one, quite useful for just about any scene. "O" it's new, that's why.

Piercing Essentials for Genesis 2 Female(s)
    http://www.daz3d.com/piercing-essentials-for-genesis-2-female-s
It may possibly work on G2m, as static objects just parented to that part of the body (I have yet to try).

Now I look at the one Promo, and all I see i my mind is King Leonidas throwing that spear :red: As for the other one, well I guess I do kind of like cute little "fuzz bombs" (rats) :)

Hay, even the cover-Promo for Ziva may possibly be reproducible now. Tho I'm not sure about some of Ziva's metal (Horns, chains, etc).

Today's entry is a pre release Promo, that was posted yesterday in upcoming forum. It's called Animated Style by Muscleman and TheSix, and its a set of new body shapes for G2M that give a distinctive anime look. But the comicbook styled promos are what draw the attention. Bright contrast, crisp textures, and generally well composed and dynamic shots. Check it out here. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/51486/

There are basically two types of promos; you have your money shots, these are the bells and whistle works of art we're showcasing here with great lighting, characters and hopefully on occassion a bit of storytelling; basically showing what the product can deliver in the hands of a competant artist . But there's a second type of promo, and this is your nuts and bolts methodical image art, highlighting the merits of the product itself. Showing hair from the back, or showing the included morphs, stuff like that.

So a common utility image promos is your basic ambient occlussion type render, take away the textures and show the model on it's own. What makes this one in particular noticed and worthy of mention in this thread, is it doubles at showing the massive scale of the prop itself with the puny little humans included, way down there at ground level. For those of you taking notes, good promo.

Agreed, and nice one there. Some times, that is just not enough. Some times we shoppers want to see where the material zones are. Tho I guess even a gray clay render is not as common as I would like for some props, cloths, scenes, etc.

Case and point, the only reason I got the Bow dress, was it was included with Aiko-6 Pro. Other times an exploded view, showing the different separable parts is nice, like with that "Tertius" example.
    (EDIT)
I've noticed that some stuff has a ton of promo pics, allot more has a few or less, and a handful have perhaps one or just two. Even some new items have rather 'small' promo pics. Why?

Flipmode's GSuit has a great promo showing off the multitude of material zones in the product, which among all the other perks this outfit has to offer, was a real selling feature. It show just how versatile this outfit would be in a variety of render options.

.... I've noticed that some stuff has a ton of promo pics, allot more has a few or less, and a handful have perhaps one or just two. Even some new items have rather 'small' promo pics. Why?

To the second question, that's a tougher one to answer. In the old days, the old store had a limit of 5 promos per product, and you could request more, up to 10 if you need more. Though it would have to be approved and justified.

These days, the new store, there are no limitations, you can have 15-20 if you want, still if the product warrants it, with the one requirement they can't be repetitive, and must show unique feaures. There is an art approval process for all promos even today. Sometimes promos submitted are cut if they don't showcase the product well.

Now why would an artist would choose only a few versus fill up more slots. Personally, I say more if better, because a well informed customer who sees all the sides of product and the potential it offers, will make a better decision whether they need the product or not.

    Some possible reasons;
Promos take a long time to make and set up.
Some are more like technicians than artists, so they just don't like making the promo art side of things.
Some have to hire an artist to make promos. again its a cost.
Nice promos take a long time to render. Time costs money.
There's a fair bit of creativity involved in coming up with intersting Promo renders. (product concept helps with this)

Yea, the G-suit2 is a really versatile product. From arm bands, to hoods, and pants, it can be allot of things. I turned it into a felt Leotard for one of the test renders I had done, that ended up my first promo (AElflaed's Fancy - Shaders). I discovered months ago, that auto-fitting the Genesis (1) Leotard to G2F don't always work well, lol. Ironically, it wasn't any of the promos that sold me there, it was the pre-release thread, and the amount and quality of the documentation for the product. Explaining not just what it can do, rather how to make the thing work. I could write a book, so I'll stop there, Thanks Flipmode.

OK, thanks. And yea, that set is one of them that has many promo pics, some Daz Figures also have allot of them. There good products, with all sides of the entire thing shown. It dose give me the feeling that nothing is being hidden, even when I know it is not intentional to give the impression. That ship is another example, I just assumed that the cockpit was not of the same level of detail, and just enough quality to make the ship look good from the outside. There are quite a few sets That I picked up, that do not include an interior, or exterior. Every single promo on that store page for the ship (as of today), only has shots of the outside of the ship.
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/750071/
From the pics there in that thread, I had the wrong impression of the ship. How many other sets have I been wrong about, and not purchased, I don't know.

Fisty had mentioned that there was an 'Art director' stage to the product submission process, and I didn't want to ask to many questions and bog her down with trivial Q&A. The point there was that I may need to redo the pose of the hands for the one render, that didn't need to be done in the end (wipes sweat from brow, lol). I can assume that either the pics Digital Vault made in that thread, were either shot down at some stage of the process, or made after the fact. Or they needed to be remade/worked to meet the requirements of one of the stages. As for another product that I am still very pleased with, Ziva by Saiyaness. I hit the buy-now before any of the Artist's renders hit the page, and I initially thought she was darker toned then she is. The reason for the delay is of no importance, only that it hints to me, that promo pics can be added some how at a later date.

I am also aware that sometimes, smaller pics, and image compression, tends to hide important details. It's why I bothered to upload a larger copy of my promo at Deviant Art (crop here showing the AElflaed's black Felted Wool on the G suit 2).

Thanks for the insight FirstBastion. There is only one of me and my workstation, there is a limited amount of time each day, and so much more to learn. I need to get a replicator to make more copies of me, and a fleet of workstations, lol. If only I could just plug the internet into the back of my head and download it like in the Matrix, lol.

While it wouldn't be fair to say I ignore sci-fi products, given how amazing some of them look, it takes something special for this genre to grab my attention beyond the first glance.

What can I say, this promo image reeled me right in! OK, it's those cute and funny aliens that get you first, but once you've gone in for a closer look and have smiled at the kids in the window, you start admiring the detailed texture of the SkyWalk and the way the far-off window frames the sky. Great sense of scale too with the endless sky all around.

Besides which, it made me smile, and I love promo art that does that.

We have to thank my daughter for this. I originally setup the render from the inside with the kids looking out the window, and was going to place a fast moving spaceship shooting across the sky, and my daughter came in had a look, and creatively suggested the kids look like they just seen an alien or something. The rest as they say is art. I should add, she has already mentioned she expects a creative consultant's fee for making the suggestion. ;-)

Thank you Jindi for the comments and consideration. I'm learning stuff from this thread as well.

Will do! Today's entry is the Arachnid Class spaceship, and the classic "soaring above the clouds" promo image that was probably rendered in some other program cause nothings listed. But its still a cool rendered action image, with the rich afterburner intensity and colors. Interestingly I found that the main promo image for the spaceship that's used on the main store page, was the least compelling of the available promo images, though theres enough additional pictures that it looks like sales are doing well. Even the landing pad docked shot is composed well.

I just noticed the Aave Nainen MFD morph promos have been updated and now show off Aave's clever work to good effect.

The artist who did these had to work with the standard G2F poses to showcase the matching drapes, but came up with an amazing concept for the background. Look past the lovely maidens and their gowns, because that interior combined with the deer is sensational.

I love the surreal but still elegant feel that we get from the combination of marble hallways, stags in a variety of poses, and the foreground ladies.

There are a whole series of these promo images, and the deer seem to change in all of them, though the girls and their poses are in some cases more dramatic and fill the foreground more. It's this last montage that I like best, and especially that final full-width image (but I love the running deer, and the sheen on their coats, in the upper pair of images).

For me, it's a winning combination of imagination, technique, and someone who appears to really understand how animals move and behave. The focus stays on the ladies and their outfits, so the background is subtle enough to let the product shine, but what a great addition!

New art from AntFarm today, bit of an homage to Assassin's Creed with a strong hint of steampunk for the ClockWorks. A little bokeh postwork and a spirit dove in flight, this is quite artistic.

LOL, definitely some Photoshop magic in there, but not in any of the other promos. To get the lighting in the room like that, my guys were too dark, so I composited them in after the fact. But, the room and the guys are untouched renders, just composited. The ghostly dust is a glow on the text

Showcase the product in the best possible light, pun totally intended. Nice job Slosh. In the end, promos have to show the details of the product they're selling, on top of being artistic, so if photoshop magic achieves that with a lighter layer ovelayed, that's cool, you're selling the clothes, they'll accept that the lighting technique is a secondary consideration. Even from the photography days, shooting near a window is a challenge.

Now I don't use Octane, LuxRender is as far as I've ventured into the unbiased render realm, but these promos for the redspec octance shaders for Monique and Darius do manage to draw the attention. Very realistic, and the poses and expressions really sell the photographic quality. This pic is from the commercial thread so it might be a quasi promo but its also in the gallery promoting the shaders so that makes it a worthy inclusion.
