Curvy 3D 3.0
In case you haven't seen it, I started a thread on Curvy 3D. When that came up for sale this morning, I remembered my Reference Links and that someone used it-- it was Bigh, so I PM'd and Bigh was extremely nice to go to the thread and post examples. Then Simon the developer came on the thread and is answering questions, so if you want to know about Curvy and see the reference links and research links, I posted them in the first thread. I bought it (and yes, the price is an EXTREMELY good deal) and remember DAZ has a 30 day return policy.
Of course, there are other good programs out there too.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/31375/
This product has a lot of good tutorial videos.
There is a $5 off coupon- SAVE-5 if you buy $30 up. You can get that off of Curvy! If you bought earlier, file a ticket NOW. This is ridiculous that they think the folks who bought anything earlier today are not going to demand $5 off orders (or you can cancel and re-order, so they will give you the $5 instead of going through that mess. They are good about that, but you have to file a ticket NOW)
Regarding Curvy 3D:
BTW, when this loaded, it was with one view only. You can go to the top, select View, and change it to the four panes. That way it matches what he is doing in the beginning video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBJF1kq41M0
Yeah, I'm the one putzing and starting from scratch. Go newbies!
One of the things that perpetually bothers me about shopping here is you always wonder if you should be buying THEN or wait five minutes and get a better deal. I did put in a support ticket when I bought Curvy because lo and behold, twenty minutes later that SAVE-5 (if you spend $30) came up. They have to honor it if you do it while the promo is going because otherwise, you could just cancel the order and repurchase- and they know that- so they don't want you doing that. Creates more work for Britney. So any time a promo starts up and you've spent the money (in this case $30) then DO go up to HELP and CONTACT US and file a ticket.
That SAVE-5 code is still good BTW.
The promo has been extended, as we thought it would be.
I bought the Horror Patient (got me the $1 needed to get over $30, came to $31 plus change) Catrina, The Lost World (drool!!!) and The UltruMarine Ocean.
Now, here's what I mean about buying now or then-
The UltruMarine Ocean is now 30% so instead of $14.95, it's $10.47
But I get $5 off, so that makes it $5.47 Yep- $5.47.
I'm saying I am applying the $5 to that one, because I was buying the other stuff regardless. (I have nothing like Catrina and The Lost World looks FANTASTIC.)
So had I bought it at 44% off, I would have saved $6.58 and paid $8.37.
8.37-5.47=$2.90 more.
It's enough to drive you nuts. And $2.90 here and there adds up.
Dont forget this freebie- http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/halloween-fun
The Ruins Of Angkor Wat
http://www.daz3d.com/the-ruins-of-angkor-wat
Seymour explores a run down temple, and yes, there are snakes to keep her company. Nice props, the lion statue comes with head on and head off, the panorama in the background is lit up so unaffected by my lights. I just used a light blue for the sky, did not use the lights that came with it, they are mine. In front of the temple are two small water areas, you can see them in the promos but also one is by the lion's head.
And note her hand holding the column- that line is distracting. Her hand should not line up vertically with the line of the column. This would have to be changed if kept for a serious render. I was experimenting with lighting so no biggie. I had added a spotlight in the distance to light the stones on the ground more noticeably.
Novica: very nice renders!!! Trish....so keep us posted on curvy3d
The ruins look great Novica. I like those roots climbing those walls. I admit I'm curious about lost world. I'm waiting to see the renders in the official thread, I want to see how it renders close up.
I noticed a banner is up for 50 percent of predatron's sci fi models.... next 4 hours...
Edited: Looks like the sci-fi sale is working now. =-)
Okay,it's time for another puzzle render! Novica requested an underwater theme for this one.
Can you find all 10 differences: (Spoilers in white, highlight to read)
Left to Right
1. Green kelp added
2. Bottle color changed from green to brown
3. Jelly fish added
4. Mini seahorse moved
5. Necklace Added
6. Speedo color changed to red plaid
7. Male diver Flippers Added
8. fish removed
9. Can removed
10. Yellow seahorse made pale purple
I think your ocean renders are just as good as your sci-fi ones- you have the water dapples down really really really really well! (I think you get the gist that I love 'em!) I'll have to get you to explain what you used, there's so many products out now for the water that I am lost. I love the way that some of the obvious places to change things are NOT changed, you knew what I'd be thinking and what I'd look for, lol.
I did buy the 14 MU Monitor Bot. Glad the store was working for you. Was the site down for you for over an hour? It was for me. The CloudFare went POOF from Miami. I could get to it, but the "live version" of the site was down.
I am downloading all my products and making files by product name in my external, and extracting the files so they will just be a copy/drop up into MyLibrary, as so many have been updated and also I am just behind. I don't want to trust DAZ to store my files, particularly after they started removing some files from products and not telling people. I want what I paid for. So you will see a slowdown in renders from me as I have about 4,700 products (just from DAZ) to download. I am on page 3, lol. (out of 109 pages.) I have to watch my allotted 150 GB a month too and share with two video gaming kids!
I bought Lost World and if I get a chance, will download and do one for you. :)
Again, LOVE the underwater puzzle.
Gorgeous underwater scene and thanks so much for making another puzzle (I have 8 differences but won't give up until I've got the other 2).
Love the addition of the 'tiki' head to this underwater garden! I don't know if it was a challenge to light or if there was a preset for instant magic, but either way it seems beautifully lit to me.
Thank you. =-) Lighting underwater is a challenge if you want the items to show on the sea floor. Normally, this isn't an issue, because you don't need items to be clear. But in a puzzle render, no depth of field will work and things need to be clear I used a two presets.
One from Underwater Ambiance: http://www.daz3d.com/underwater-ambiance-for-daz-studio One from:
One from: Under the Sea Poses: http://www.daz3d.com/under-the-sea
I turned the extra lights off in Under the Sea Poses off (otherwise too bright) , but used it's gel which I'm quite fond of to add more watery look. For additional linear point lights had to be added to light up the ocean floor and the characters for my tastes. Even then, I had to use a filter in photoshop to brighten it up otherwise it was still too dim down there. EDIT The ocean itself is a backdrop from Under-the-sea, although I used the sandy floor from Ultrumarine ocean set. I wanted more detail than the ocean sphere provided and the backdrops that are included in this set are wonderful.
In hindsight, I wish I had done the render larger. I had unintentionally dialed my size of my pictures down for a previous time consuming render and still had my daz on that setting. Even then, this took a while to render. I probably will never use Paul hair again. That hair alone took forever to render!
Thanks Novica, I do enjoy doing the water renders a lot. I really hope to find a product that will allow me to do some characters up above the water and below at the same time. I can only get that look by composing something in photoshop. I also admit to using nearly all my bag of water and fish props, so I hope daz PA's put together some new stuff! Since I know Tuna's are cold water fish, that is one of 4 fish I own, so ya gots to do what ya gots to do. Would love more fish.
The bubble's are from Ron's waterline. There are a few brushes in that pack which work, and you can erase out the ones that start looking similar There is an actual bubble brush product I've been eyeing but waiting for it to go on sale.
I ended up buying lost world. I like that water, and it really has a sic-fi look to it. haven't played with it yet...
I was about to roll over in defeat when I found the last one. No peeking needed this time, but nicely challenging on the final 2 or 3! :)
LOL Jindi, notice none of the rest of us are "fessin' up" about how many we've found. I'm stuck on 9. The last one is still eluding me.
Regarding Lost World, I am really reading too much about the difficulty in using it/ getting it set up- do we HAVE to have LAMH to use that thing? Cumbersome comes to mind- it's a gorgeous set, but I have the other hair product and have no intention of buying LAMH, simply because I only need one hair product and haven't even used the other one! Kudos the vendor for answering questions, very on the ball with it. But I'm a lazy person right now when it comes to zipping in and working with a scene, and I also am not spending money to buy something to make a product work. Curvy 3d is my big ticket item. (don't ask, haven't touched it today, still downloading onto an external hard drive and only on page 8 out of 109.
The Ruins Of Angkor Wat
http://www.daz3d.com/the-ruins-of-angkor-wat
While I am doing all this other stuff (downloading) I can go ahead and render more views of the Ruins for you- I kinda got sidetracked. The roots that Serene Night mentioned actually is a HUGE palm tree that goes all the way up. Right now I'm rendering a shot from the front which will show you the two mini ponds, then I'll post some more throughout the night. Again, you'll need to check back because edits do not show up in your emails if you're subscribed to the thread. :) So there will be a couple more for this post then maybe more. :)
And heads up- remember The Fabricator for the http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/wicked-one-piece which is 44% if you're PC club TODAY only, then it goes 30%. That thing has so many material zones!!! Check the thumbnails on the product page. You can also make your own patterns on http://patterncooler.com/ too.
LARGE renders coming shortly. I do need to mention this, very important- the Angkor Wat renders VERY quickly at advanced render settings. You will LOVE it. (Shading rate .20, other settings high quality also.) I'm at 34% in just 9 minutes, the entire top half of the building is done!
Sorry to intrude :) No you don't need LAMH to use Lost World.
I had made some test renders with lost workd and posted them in the commons if anyone is interested :)
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/31539/
Not intruding AT ALL. :)
I've been following the other thread and it seems it is very, very slow without LAMH (which I understand is a great product, it's just that as I said, I already have one that I don't use) I certainly do intend to try it before considering a return. Any suggestions on what NOT to try and load first, something that would come up fairly quickly? (I know that sounds backward, asking what NOT to load!)
Ivy, that looks very manageable. With a shading rate of .10 too! I usually only do .20 to .30, bucket size is 32, max ray trace 1 or 2. So I'll have to try and see what that does (but close down my installing, etc so the computer can focus on that one thing!)
Hello, LAMH is not needed at all, nor LAMH users would benefit in any way with Lost World.
About Lost World being very slow, that depends on the context. Loading it into DS, thanks to instancing, takes about 10-20 seconds.
Rendering it is another story: without lights it renders in 10 seconds. If you use the provided light set, which uses Global Illumination, on an average systems it takes about 20-30 minutes at 1920x1280, with high render settings.
Obviously using different light combinations will have other impacts on render times.
About handling the scene once LW is loaded, if you hide the vegetation (a command is provided to do that), you can easily place additional items, prepare the scene as you like, and unhide the vegetation only before issuing the render. This way you'll always have a responsive interface.
Thanks, that is all very normal so far as render times go. Your set is absolutely STUNNING, as you've been told many, many times. As soon as I tackle it (will be in a few days, I HAVE to download stuff to use up my monthly bandwidth allowance and that ends tomorrow) then I'll play and share. Hopefully do it justice :)
Appreciate your input very much!
Barbult's Wonderful Render
Our friend Barbult rocks again! For the RRRR contest, check this one out. (Yes, it had my vote, now that the contest is over I can say that. And I vote without looking at who does what, so this was a pleasant surprise.) This was SO well done. If you don't know what the RRRR is, you have to use RANDOM products that are generated (you number your stuff and use a randomizer to pull the numbers) and then make a scene! I may start doing a few of those on this thread just for kicks too. (I have my own system so I don't have to make a text file. I'll share it here later when the next contest starts, if you want to enter but not do a file, you can just use your Product Library as there's 40 per page. I did a math formula which is fast and easy to find your numbered products that you generate.
Congrats Barbult and all the other winners! I'm tickled to see Kyoto Kid as a winner too, that was another one of my votes. Go KK!

Wicked One Piece
Mage Tower
Nova For Victoria 6
http://www.daz3d.com/wicked-one-piece
http://www.daz3d.com/mage-tower
http://www.daz3d.com/nova-for-victoria-6
I interrupt my downloading to show you this, as it will be going off 44% in 35 minutes. (and down to 30%) I will be doing some patterns on it and showing you what you can do with it as it has so many material zones. I'm going to try and add other pieces of clothing to it too, kit bashing.
I had to laugh, I put in two point lights and forgot to adjust them, so the fire looked like the Towering Inferno. I dumbed it down with some fast (and I do mean fast) corel photo paint touch ups (touch DOWNS in this case.) Seriously, I got the giggles, Seymour wouldn't be able to stand the heat from my fire!
Again, Seymour is from Nova For Victoria 6. She looks good in any light! (Would recommend for newbies.)
Mage Tower is only $1.99, so are the accessory packs. I did it bare bones, no accessories in the scene as I wanted to get this outfit out there before it went off 44%.
Okay, this issue has come up before- can you use a jpg in your diffuse channel? I can't. It renders black. I tested it and this is what I got. BTW, to change a jpg over to a png (which does work) you have to change from 32 bit CMYK to a 24 bit RGB. I'm doing a render now of this same outfit with the changeover. (and yes, this time I did remember to change that fushia head band. Sheesh. First the towering inferno, now the tacky headband.)
I also am going to show you how you can loosen the shorts so this doesn't seem like the spandex wonder. You can do wrinkles in the top and the pants, and make them looser. You can lower the V or undo the parameters and raise it, but it gets a bit revealing as it wrinkles up. Depends on your camera view. I haven't found a V up morph, but didn't look too hard.
The fire is now correct with the two point lights behind it. One orange-coral, one light yellow.
BTW, the snake says Happy Halloween.
:)
Most of the textures for the clothes in my library are jpg format, so I'm not sure why you'd be having a problem.
Don't know either, but there was a thread a couple months ago and quite a few of us were not able to use jpgs. We are supposed to be able to. It was either Szark or Chohole that said they had heard about this problem before, and no one has an answer as to why it happens. I just change mine over to pngs.
Heads up folks! The site just changed over and...
BTW, don't know if it's a glitch, but you can get 70% off some of the Halloween right now, and some pages are coming up in the URL as FAST GRAB and they are NOT. But you get 70% off. And the SAVE-5 still works.
Two hair styles at 70% off- and would be good for floating hair underwater, which is why I got them to experiment:
Eliza Hair
$5.99
Jennifer Hair
$4.79
and these are 70%. Here are SOME of the links to speed you along.
http://www.daz3d.com/sales-promotions/undead-fiend
http://www.daz3d.com/sales-promotions/daz-ogre
http://www.daz3d.com/sales-promotions/wicked-undead-fiend-morphs
DAZ Monstrosities: Undead Fiend $7.49
DAZ Monstrosities: Skullcrusher Ogre $5.99
Wicked Skullcrusher Ogre Morphs $2.39
Skullcrusher Ogre Poses $2.99
I do NOT have an email about the 70%, this might be a Halloween promotion, but there is no verbage about it yet about the 70%, only the 50%. I got it because I don't have it, if I don't want it, I'll cancel it. I do know one of those hairs said FAST GRAB and it isn't. (as of right now. And Fast Grab goes up at the same time.)
EDIT: Vaskania is telling me on another thread that this has been posted for awhile. I am aware of that promo section, but those were showing 50% for me, not 70%. It could be that I keep getting signed out of the site when I am in the forums (happens a LOT. Every time I have more than one window open and go back to shop, it's login time again for a good portion of the time)
Pinup Poses For V5
Okay, here it is as a png file.
Wanted to test the Pinup Poses For V5 on the Genesis 2 figure. Yep, it twonked the eyes. (Click to enlarge.) So if you use V5 poses on the Generation 6, check those before you engage in some long renders. I lowered Seymour so she wasn't on the tips of her toes, and curled her fingers, but the pose had come in just fine. Some really cute ones in that set.
All I did was put the opacity of the clothing to zero in the Surfaces tab.
I've got to get back to downloading :) One last thing, note the loose fit of the bottoms, and the wrinkles in the bottoms and the top.
The last one is fiendishly difficult.... assuming it's the same last one that had me tearing out my hair ;)
By the way, I like what you've done with Seymour's outfit. Very nice.
Wouldn't it be funny if it was the same one? We'll have to compare notes after I find the darned thing.
Regarding the outfit- it bugs me that the top part of it doesn't come down to the waist. I'm using the joint editor tool and selecting the polygons and making the entire top one entire material zone so if I want to put a pattern in there, it will go down further. It seems too short for me and makes it look like a one piece. I've got to learn how to do D formers, I tried but the video I was watching selected the actual abdomen of the shirt, whereas this gave me the "have to select an item with geometry" message when I tried to pick the adomen of the outfit.
So, polygon group editing, but it's 4:40am here and headed to bed. You don't happen to know how to do the D-form thing to add some mesh to the outfit I suppose? (hope, hope)
You're welcome, if you need any hint or clarification about LW don't hesitate to contact me :)
