Thank you Jaderail. It took a lot of tweaking and not so fast spot rendering to get the lights right.

And here is a close up of her...

Well, I have been busy writing and working on the cover for book 3 and life away from the computer. I managed to find the following images in regards to the first novel I published.

Image 1 is just a screen capture of a work in progress at that time. Unfortunately, I lost the original scene file and this is all I have of it. I had their heights the wrong way around as well.

Image 2 is the completed cover of my first novel. I was never happy with it but I was new to the self publishing game and learnt a lot as a result. The top and scarf on her are not by me as you can see by the credit at the bottom of the image. I was learning how to use DS still so his expression never came out as I would have liked. Still didn't have their heights right. Again, I had lost the scene file when I was having DS issues and had to uninstall and reinstall. I forgot to save it.

Image 3 is where I have been reworking the same two characters above into something I'm happier with to suit the story.

The couple in all three images are the same characters from the novel.

I meant to add to the post above that I love the guy from the first image and the woman from the third image and if I could recreate him then I would be very happy lol

Anyway, catching up on some of my test renders...

I've been working on the characters for the third book since late last year. It's taken awhile due to needing some clothing items for one of the characters, refining two of the three characters and just general tweaking of poses, fabrics for clothing and lighting. All three are G2. The one on the right hasn't changed since I first posted him earlier in this thread. I was that happy with the way he turned out. The other two however... Well, I had to redo her.

Oh... those two are from the first image I posted in this thread from my second book. In the third book, she loses weight and I wasn't happy with how she turned out for the test render of cover 3. So, I scrapped her and started again but with her slimmer self first then added the weight as I still need her over weight self. While I had the basics of the tall guy already, I just refined him with some character sliders.

Believe it or not, the two guys have the same skin on but different face textures from the same character pack. I just played with the colours for the skin in the Surfaces tab for the guy on the right.

Oh, this is the first test render I did. I can't show the latest until the cover has been approved for production.

Well, it seems I can't leave things alone. But, that's okay because I'm learning in regards to character creation. That and I'm enjoying G2 M&F... Except for the lack of clothing lol. Anyway...

I've been reworking the two characters from book 1: Objective: The Crimson Empire. The first three examples were all Genesis. This time they are G2. I decided to use some of the new stuff I'd bought recently just so they aren't standing in the middle of nothing.

Due to the fact that I had been re-working my first two novels for re-publishing, meant I got to re-work their cover images (previous versions posted earlier in this thread). So, naturally enough, I would use them when it came to playing with DAZ Studio 4.8 iray.

First image is DS 4.7 standard rendering.
Second image is DS 4.8 iray render after all materials and lights had been converted over. I have to say, I love the way they both turned out. I did have to lighten her boots so they weren't a solid black mass. Her dress turned out darker but that isn't that big an issue since it is a night shot anyway.

My issue is, his shirt in the 4.8 render is supposed to look like silk like it does in the 4.7 render but doesn't. How can I fix it? I do need help with this part. Also, the corner of his lip is glossy when it shouldn't be. While I could fix it in post, I would like to try to eliminate it pre rendering.

Here is the final render of the pair from the cover from my first novel. I finally managed to reduce the glossy on his lips and up the silk look of his shirt. I must say, that I am really happy with the way this turned out. Due to my small graphics card, the image has to be small. Soon I will be updating my graphics card. Soon :)
