Hylas' corner
Hey there! so, I'm opening one of these for myself...
I've decided that I should do more "quick" renders. My tendency is to fiddle around with a scene forever, keep adding and adjusting stuff, try to be clever about it, etc... currently, I'm working on a series that's supposed to tell a story. It's fun but it's very slow going.
I think it'd be good for me to do more simple scenes as well. Portraits and pin-up's with little to no background or context. Sometimes I just don't feel like working on my main project. Maybe I just want to try out a freebie that I recently acquired. Maybe I just want to do something experimental. That kind of thing.
Feedback is welcome! Especially the constructive kind!
***
To start things off, this is Salem, whom I recently picked up for next to nothing by stacking a coupon on a discount. I kinda love her; I don't like it that much when characters get too photorealistic and she hits that sweet spot between realistic and cartoony. Also using Mardi Gras, which is a current freebie, as well as a few former freebies and heavily discounted items. The boots here are the only thing I payed anything close to full price for. (I like to be thifty!)
Comments
A discussion over in the Commons about chalk white skin reminded me of this character that I had made a while ago and done nothing with. She's supposed to be a kind of water spirit.

I like your water spirit Kelphair looks like it was made for her;)
Ok... I can never tell what does and doesn't count as "nudity" around here. Will probably upload a reworked version later.
@Sven: Thanks!
Great image, needed more water with it
Thanks, will do!
I'd have sworn that she was wearing the knickers (or maybe the belt skirt) from The Sentry here in the DAZ store... they'd have been 100% underwater in that render !
Strangely enough the image with just the bikini bottom (or whatever) in that image is very dicey for the forum as the panties (if you can honestly call them that) are below the normal pubic hairline and hanging on for grim death, they look as though if she moves her left leg a fraction of an inch they will descend rapidly to the ground.
^ so... perfect for battle, in other words!
Just wanted to pop in and welcome you to the art studio thread!
And this made me laugh out loud. Yes, most definitley ready for battle!
You water spryte is a lovely character

So, I finally took a closer look at Sickleyields tutorial for transferring character morphs across generations and genders. Lo and behold, I managed to make it work! I now have a Aiko 8 head morph slider for my G8M characters. I'm pleased as punch. On the left is a G8M character I often use, on the right is the "Aikofied" version. I don't like what it's doing to his mouth, I'll have to correct that... but I love what's happening with his eyes! Finally Aiko has some proper male companions!
And here's Aiko 7 transferred to Genesis 8. This makes me so happy. Now I can also start using G3 characters without having to invest in all those G3 basic products like head and body morphs, fit control, clones, etc. I've been G8 exclusively so far... and it looks like it's going to stay that way!

This was supposed to be another quick scene, trying out the barn I picked up in the current sale. Not only did it take longer than expected to set it up (doesn't it always?) but it also took forever to render, and I'm not even sure why. But at least I'm very happy with the outcome!

@Hylas Great start here. I like in particular the headdress of the woman in the water. Plus, the image of the guy working in the barn is pretty well composed. Now that you mention it, I have to check out that tutorial on Morph transfers. It amazes me how much knowlege there is here. Both Novica and IceDragonArt impress me. Was just looking at the first page of IceDragonArt's thread and discovered some things I didn't know about setting up custom Categories... So much under the surface.
Anyway, welcome!

I've posted this over in the toon thread already... I hope a little bit of cross-posting is ok, I'll try not to be too obnoxious about it!
I'm really into the new Toon Hero character! This render was done real quick, you can expect more experiments with him in the near future.

@Hylas I didn’t realize it was a freebie. Will have to check that out.
New render looks very GI Joe. Like the toon quality of the features. There are some great new toon characters I have seen lately. There was some sort of Toon Dad figure I got recently that was pretty good.
^ I'm currently besotted with Toon Hero, who is by the same PA. Speaking of...

I'm very happy with the first one!
Actually not 100% happy with the 2nd one. I think this particular toon head and realistic skin were not the best possible combination. And I'm not entirely satisfied with his face and expression. Still, I think it's overall good enough to put up.
I'm undecided on how his skin came out (regardless of whether or not it fits this particular character). I was worried I made it too pink, but I think it looks good, no? Or what does everybody think?

Don't love how one boob catches the light and the other not, but I don't have the patience to fix it XD

Quick attempt to get a similar result as Serene Night did with Candy Lights, but instead I used Atmocam2 (which I happen to already own, and I'm a cheapskate who doesn't want to spend money if I can avoid it). Well, the result isn't quite there yet, but also not too bad (in my opinion). Need more gloss on the skin and the colour of the lights should be more saturated.

:)
I actually really like the guy in the kilt, because... guy in kilt.
Thanks!

I love your toon hero renders. I'm glad to see you have a thread here. :)
Thanks, Knittingmommy! (Btw, did you know that I'm a professional knitter?)

@Hylas! Gasp! Be still my heart. I'm envious in some ways. :) I wanted to be a professional knitter at one point. I've tested knitted a few patterns but that's about it. I always thought I'd either be a professional knitter or an author. Writing won. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to knit lately. Going to have to find time to finish some projects I have on the needles soon though.
So, do tell. What kinds of things have you knit and for what type of people? Designers or regular folks who like handknit items? How long have you been a knitter? I'm very curious. :)
Edit: grammar!
... and I'm a knitter who writes on and off... at the moment decidedly more off. Heh.
I have a degree in textile design, I work with industrial machines. Been doing it for about 5 years. I execute the designs for some... medium sized? ... fashion houses. Rarely the really big ones, but some of my work does walk the runway in Paris, which is pretty cool. I made this, this, and this, just some recent-ish examples. I know how to knit with needles as well, but lord I don't have the patience for it!
What kind of writing do you do? (No hard feelings if you don't want to mix your daz identity and your professional identity. I wouldn't want to share my writing here, for example.)
That's so cool. I love the Paul Smith sweater! I love almost anything with lots of color. That one just does it for me. I mostly knit on needles by hand, usually I do everything on circular needles even straight knitting. Fewer needles to keep track of that way. I hardly ever use straight needles anymore. I would love to get a knitting machine someday. I have a small tabletop one which I use to make blanks and stuff for dying my own yarn, but that's about all I've done with it so far.
I won't mention what my pen names are but I don't mind saying what I write for the most part. I do try to keep things a little separate. I don't write anything under my real name. I write all romance currently on three different pen names. One is a romcom pen I just started so there are only two short novellas on it so far. It's my stress relief pen name so mostly books aimed at the Short Reads category on Amazon that can be read in about an hour.
I have two other pen names. One pen has book 1 in a reverse harem trilogy written on it. It also has a six book erotica series on it, too. That was my get the books up on Amazon and figure this stuff out. Happily, the reverse harem book really took off. I'm currently in the middle of writing book 2 and still have book 3 to map out for that trilogy. I'll have another reverse harem trilogy releasing on that pen name sometime next year.
My most profitable romance category I won't mention here simply because it's way out there and most people wouldn't understand it. But, it's a small niche that has been VERY good to me. I'm about to release my fifth book on that pen name probably by the end of this month.
I'm also working on a couple of cozy mytery series that will be published next year. Those will actually be published under my initial and real last name. I've got six books planned for the first series and I'm not sure when next year I'll be publishing them. The plan is to wait until all six books are done before putting them up on Amazon.
Probably more than you wanted to know. I'm having fun with it though and it's been very lucrative so far. Unfortunately, I don't get to spend as much time with Daz Studio as I had been. But I love what I'm doing, though, so that's a trade off I'm willing to make for now.
edit: grammar fix
"Reverse Harem", is that a harem of guys for one woman? That sounds very cool! And even cooler that it's successful.
Turns out I want to keep my hobby writing separtate from my DAZ identity for (I'm guessing) similar reasons. Funny! But ok, let's move on from that subject, then...
Yep, you have it right, a bunch of guys and one woman and she doesn't have to choose just one. Keeping the writing separate is a good thing. ;)
