I like that combination, adding in Mei Lin with Darcy! She's a really nice character and well rendered.
Regarding bloom, I haven't used it so can't give any sage advice.
Thank you!
Oh no, he's man spreading! He's not on the subway though, so he's fine. Actually, he's very fine. He he he...
You've been busy! Sorry I haven't commented in a while, there were millions of things fighting for attention.
^ Thanks! I took those sweatpants and tried to make the most sweatpantsy render possible :)

Thorbjørn was ANGRY. Never in his life had he worn clothes this uncomfortable. The corset kept squeezing his gut and he wasn't even able to get out of those ridiculous pants without assistance. "GUNNAR! GUNNAR, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW, I NEED TO PEE!!!"

It's hard to be a death metaller, but the annoyance of the clothing is very helpful in producing those grimaces they make on stage.

You know that feeling when you've bought a product and the 30 days have come and gone, and you're still not entirely sure whether you regret the purchase or not? Talilo by Colorgaleria (available at the other site) was such a case for me. I like his big, hang-dog eyes and the texture of his skin, but I don't love that he reads so young and his overall green tint. I've played around with him before but frankly I think the results were a bit mediocre.
Well, I gave it another try and I'm much happier with the result this time. Turns out the green tint of his skin is not baked in and can be easily dialled out. I gave him additional freckles, beefed up his body, and butched up the lower half of his face.

He looks great. I have his female counterpart, but haven't really used her much yet, partly because I haven't bothered to give her metadata so she appears properly in Smart Content. As for the render, it's a refreshing change of pace to see you render someone who don't look like he's running for Mr. Universe, and it's a really well-styled render to boot.
Thanks! I'm curious to see what you'll do with Dalila :)

Not the most interesting shot of Ellithia, but I do like how the spell effect came out and I'm reasonably happy with my postwork here.

Ooh, I love the sunlight coming in through the stained glass window. Handsome guy too! I hope he won't have problems getting up from the kneeling pose, because that armour he wears is not flimsy!
Talilo definitely needs a manly beard. He looks great in your newest render of him. I like Elithia as a spellcaster, too. The colours and light of the magic stand out so well against the foggy background.

My most subtle render yet!
I've been lusting after the character in the main promo pic of Lantios Lights. That's got to be Karass, right? Perhaps with a different skin and slightly beefed up?
So, I snatched him up since he's currently available for $2. I haven't actually quite mastered morph transfers from M4 to G8 yet - I'm working on it! - but in the meantime I tried out his skin. Love his elaborate tattoos, and love that his lips are roughly the same colour as the rest of his face. I know that's not exactly realistic, but it's a look I generally like for male characters.
Karass doesn't come with translucency maps so I had to create some myself in order to make the tattoos work in IRAY. I think it all came out ok!

You did a really good job on converting him. I actually like the "nude" lips look for guys too. Sometimes I even add nude lipstick to combat very red lips on textures! Karass is v handsome. Now he needs to drink a coke...
You did a really good job making that tattoo look like an actual tattoo, whereas a lot of tattoos (and makeup, face paint, etc.) look like decals on dolls.
^ Thanks! Yes, "painted on" tattoos is something that often bothers me as well...

Shortly after I started with DAZ, Grace for V4 showed up as a bi-weekly freebie. She made me first think about transferring old shapes and materials to Genesis 8. She was just so beautiful and I felt it was a shame to let all that go to waste. So I started to tentatively look into the subject. And down a rabbit hole I fell...
Well, here she finally is! I had managed to transfer her materials a while ago, but now I also have her face morph. It's not entirely accurate, but it's close enough for my purposes. Her eyes and teeth seem not deformed and the posing also seems ok.
Her brows were also a bit of a problem. They kind of disappeared in IRAY and they were a little weirdly painted to begin with. So I clone-stamped them away completely and gave her some fibermesh brows instead. I think it all comes together quite nicely!
(Karass will have to wait a little, though. Turns out he requires some M4 morph packs I don't have. Hoping that they'll show up as freebies sometime soon, fingers crossed!)

Rather than pick on any of the myriad makeup/paint/tattoo products that fail, I want to highlight something that really gets it right: Aki Bodypaints (vol. 1 and vol. 2) by Aeon Soul.
How did you transfer the materials? I've tried using Legacy UVs and then Map Transfer, but I haven't found a way to include the geografts with the map transfer, so even with a G8 version of a V4 texture, I'm still dependent on the geografts.
I use Legacy UVs; I don't know what Map Transfer does, why do you use it?
I never touched Map Transfer, or really even knew about it, until I got XTransfer. A number of G3 base characters (and some freebies I'd accumulated) use custom UVs rather than the base. For example, here's what happens when you load the Guy 7 textures directly onto a G8:
This is because the Guy 7's materials were built on a custom UV that only works on G3M. Map Transfer lets you copy those textures onto the base G3M UV, which CAN be applied directly to a G8M, like so:
Once you've got your Map Transferred texture files, you can create material presets for G8.
I mean, you could also use something like G3 Character UVs for G8, but that only works for Daz base characters. It obviously wouldn't help with something like JoeQuick's Turtle Power for G3M.
Huh, will have to look into that. I had been using the G3 Character UVs for G8 product you mention.
I don't think there's a way around the geografts when using gen 4 skins. Surely the PA would not have come up with that somewhat convoluted setup if there was a more easy way.
Maybe, maybe not. Just because they didn’t include it with their product doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Different PAs have different skill sets, and know how to do different things. If Cayman Studios hasn’t found an easier way to do what we’re talking about, that doesn’t mean someone else might not.
For a more drastic example of why Map Transfer is necessary, this is what JoeQuick's Toon Duckie maps look like on the XTransferred figure.
Zombie duck!

So, here's a thing I stumbled upon. I was messing around with this skin shader preset freebie, randomly trying out various presets on Andre's skin to see what happens.
I increased his gloss, changed his translucency colour to a dark orange, and switched his SSS mode to Chromatic.... and suddenly he looked like he had been crying. Oh my, poor boy!
Sadist that I am, I decided to lean into it. I gave him a reddish sclera, turned on his tear surface, and gave him a geoshell that makes the area below his eyes shiny. The opacity map for the latter is available here.
I think it's a really cool effect... but it's of limited use since it seems to be coincidental. I can't replicate the same effect with other skins.
The head morph is a converted M5. The conversion is really inaccurate, so in a sense it failed. But I love this new shape for what it is, so, success!

Does anybody else have a folder with freebies that you downloaded but haven't installed yet? Mine is embarassingly full. Today I remembered that I still hadn't tried out Fighting Eagle for M4 by Tempesta3d, a freebie from last Xmas. What a wonderful character!

This Centaur is very serious about Butterflies.
Might have overdone it with the bloom and saturation... or maybe it's just the right amount for a slightly kitschy fairy tale vibe?
