This is Livia for V4 and Genesis, but the shape is transferred to G2F using GenX2. Liva's skin uses Uber Surface Shader and the skin presets have been updated to DUF files, so all the Genesis skin and makeup presets just work on G2F. As you can see, Livia has a very pale skin.

Here is Abigail for V4 and Genesis. I used GenX2 to transfer the shape from V4 to G2F. The Genesis skin materials are already in DUF format and use the UberSurface shader (although they are described as HSS material). I picked up Abigail at one of the 80% off sales last summer and have finally gotten around to trying her out. I'm pretty happy with her and she is still in store.

This is Sarah. She is a V4 character but this is the G2F version created with GenX2. She comes with DAZ materials that use the default shader, but it is in DSA format so it need to be changed to DUF to use on G2F. This is another old V4 skin texture I really like.

Been a long time since I posted anything here, but I decided to kick the tires on the Iray render. This is a comparison of 3Delight and Iray renders for the same scene
The 3Delight render uses:

I used the V6 Anna skin from the HD added on for Victoria 6 HD. I turned the intensity of Light 1 in the point shoot set down to about half its default setting to avoid blowing out the skin. Other than that, I did not make any adjustments and used the 3Delight materials.
For the Iray render I used the same scene with the following modifcations:

The Ayssa hair has Iray material, which I used for the Iray render. The chloe dress does not come with Iray material, although the promo images indicate they were rendered in Iray. I just use the 3Delight material and hoped for the best auto translation.
Several points about the Iray render:
- I set the "Render SubD Leval" to 4 for Victoria 6. I maybe could have gotten away with 3, but If I left it at the default 1, I lost all the HD detail in Iray render. This seems to be automatic in 3Delight renders.
- I set the "Environment Mode" on the render properties to "Scene Only". The default "Dome and Scene" will light the scene with a sky dome that is as bright as these lights. Have to set it to "Scene Only" to only have the Inane Glory lights do the lighting.
- I set the intensity of Light 1 to about 3/4 of the default value to try to match the 3Delight intensity.
The render time for the 3Delight images was about 30 minutes on my computer and the Iray render was about 2 hours.
The back drop texture is probably from Point and Shoot 3 and is the same in both renders. I remember seeing something about the displacement needing to be changed for the backdrops in Iray, but I did not make any changes.

The HDR environment did not give enough light for a good portrait, so I used the InaneGloory lights at about half default intensity except for the key light I made only slightly less intense.
I have a lowend Nvida graphics card that cannot be used by Iray, so this is a CPU only render. Render time was 3 hr and 45 min.
I then added a spot light behind to simulate the sun low in the sky. i reduce the temperature to 2800 degrees and increased the intensity from 1500 to 24,000. This produced the second portrait that took around 4 hr and 45 min to render.

Both of those come with 3Delight and Iray materials and I'm using the vendors material for the render engine.

I think most of the difference here is because of material.
Note: the picture I posted yesterday had some problems. I forgot to turn off the Dome lighting in the Iray render.

Both of those come with 3Delight and Iray materials and I'm using the vendors material for the render engine.
For Lighting in 3Delight I used InaneGlory's Photo Studio - Point and Shoot 2.
For the Iray Lighting I used InaneGlory's Photo Studio - Point and Shoot Iray with the same light setup.
I used the black hair preset in both the 3Delight and Iray versions. Normally when I render with 3Delight at gamma 2.2 I turn on specular strength down a lot on most hair, but I did not in this case.
To my taste IG Iray skin is a touch too pink but looks much more like caucasin skin. I think that by adjusting the translucency color I should be able to get skin that does not look quite so pink.
Here is an example of adjusting the translucency color so that Vicky 7 is not sunburned using the IG Iray Essentials - Genesis 3 Female & Victoria 7 skin textures. I probably should not have adjusted the lips layer, because I took some of the red out of her lip stick too.
Very nice Mark. And yes, adjusting the translucency color is the key to getting a different skin tone while still mantaining the realistic look to the skin.

The casual summer clothes has both 3Delight and Iray material. I used UHT hair shader for the flirty hair and did not do a very good job of matching color.
There is a lot of difference between the appearance of the 3Deligh material and the Iray material. I don't like the way the 3Delight material is setup. The velvet is too high. This is always true when you render at gamma 2.2. This skin has been setup to render at gamma 1.0 in 3Delight. I always have to reduce the velvet strength to about 5% at gamma 2.2. The other problem is the SSS is way to strong and makes her look like a wax figure.
Here is a quick adjustment of the 3Delight skin material for FWSA Bonnie HD for Victoria 7
Basically, i reduced the Velvet Strength from 20% to 5%.
I reduced the SSS Shading Scale from 0.5 to 0.1
I reduced the SSS Strength from 75% to 50%.
I increased the Diffuse Strength from 50% to 75%
I probably should have tried adjusting the specular strength too, but I did not.
With these adjustments, I think she looks a little less like a wax dummy.
This is my first test of Beautiful Skin Genesis 2 Iray Bundle. I used the following:
MDD Kelsey for V4.2 by Maddelirium availabe in the Rendo store - Skin only.
FW Lara HD - Shape only.

The MDD Kelsey skin does not have materials for DAZ Studio. The product description says "This Product has not been optimized for Daz Studio. Some MAT files may not load correctly in Daz Studio and may require some adjustments the function correctly in Daz Studio." Some months ago I set this skin up to use the AoA SSS shader so it rendered very nicely in DAZ Studio. I applied the Beautiful skin presets to that skin, using one of the lightest color skin presets.
I'm pretty happy with the look of the skin in this quick transfer to Iray materials.
Thanks for sharing your settings on Bonnie. I mentioned it over in my thread so folks would be sure and surf in over here. Very beautiful skin, I think your changes really make a difference!

Although you can never get indentical lighting between 3Delight and Iray, presumably the 2 versions of InaneGlory's Photo Studio should be close.

Note that the Belleza dress does not have build in morphs for Bethany 7 and there is a triangular indent between the legs, more visible on the Iray render. This could be fixed in Hexagon or some other modeling tool if it was important. You frequently get that fitting V4 dresses in G2F.
As you can see the 3Delight skin that uses the AoA SSS has exagerated SSS which gives the figure a wax dummy like appearance. In the earlier posts on FWSA Bonnie I suggested some tweaks to reduce this effect and make the skin more natural.
PAs do this exagerated SSS on almost every AoA SSS skin, while on Iray skin they seem to be trying for a more photoreal look. I think this wax dummy like skin developed as an industry standard after SSS was introduced in Poser. PAs are just trying to produce skin in DAZ Studio that looks like the Poser SSS skins.

To make these renders I used InaneGlory's Photo Studio - Point and Shoot Iray
This is done with the same setup as my earlier comparison of V7 Iray material with IG Iray Essentials - Genesis 3 Female & Victoria 7
The attached image shows Victoria 7 rendered with the standard Iray skin material as well as with these two other products.
Naturally Real is a set of skin material for Victoria 7. This product includes no texture maps of its own. It is only usable on V7, although you might be able to get the skin settings to apply to another character using the control-click and ignoring the maps. I did not try that and I would expect you would need to do some adjustments afterwards.
JM HumanShader is a set of skin, mouth, teeth, nails and eye shaders for Iray. You have to select the correct figure sufaces before applying these shader presets. You are suppose to be able to apply this to V4, M4, Genesis, G2 and G3, so it is not specific to V7 at all.
I'm only starting to sort out Iray skin shader settings. I noticed a few things. The Naturally Real material does not use the V7 normal maps. I'm not sure why. V7 has presets to add and remove the normal maps, so you can use them to add the normal maps back.
I also noticed that the JM HumanShader uses PBR Specular/Glossiness. I think this is the only skin material that I have seen using this mode. I'm not sure what the difference is.
As would be expected, the skin appearance is different with each of these shaders. I was never thrilled with the original V7 Iray material. The Naturally Real skin tone is a bit more appealing, but it looks to me like SSS is much stronger and I'm not sure that really looks natural. It will take more experimenting with the material under different lighting. I think JM Shader produces skin tones that are too pale for my taste. I assume that would be fixed by changing Translucency Color.
I should point out again that the JM Shader is a lot more than just a skin shader for V7. It needs to be tried out on lots of other figures and starting with non-Iray shaders to really get an idea how it works.
I am continuing to look at various Iray skin shaders. For the last couple of days I've been looking at 3 different shader products for Genesis 2 Female. Theser are:

The JM shader is described as more flexible and able to work on wide selection of skins. The other two are described as being specific for G2F.
I expect the results of these shaders may vary depending on what skin you use. For this test I used:
V5 Elite Skin Texture Valerie
This is actually a texture for V5 and not G2F, but it uses the V5 UVs that work natively on G2F, so it works on G2F with no problems. This skin uses the uberSurface shader.
The idea was to start with uberSurface Valerie skin on G2F and use the presets that come with these products to convert the skin to Iray with as little manual fiddling to adjust the skin as possible.
Beautiful Skin Iray:
This product mostly has material presets, although some are described as shaders. This simplifies the use some. You can just select the character and apply the material preset. This product has presets for G2F Base Female UVs, V4 UVs, V5 UVs, and V6 UVs. These preset include some strength/control textures on those UVs. For other UVs, like Gia or Olympia, there are preset without any image maps.
I only applied the Victoria 5 Beautiful Skin Base. I did not apply any of the other bump, specular or complete skin presets. I also did not apply the normal maps. I think I applied the eye and mouth shaders, but I may have forgotten or done it wrong. The teeth came out red. I just changed the translucency color to white and that made the teeth white. You can barely see the teeth in this pose.
JM HumanShader
This is a collection of shader presets, rather than material presets. You need to select the correct surface. Since the JM HumanShader is more general than just G2F, the surface zones names don't always agree with the shader names, so you have to figure it out. These shaders do not include any control textures. They just use the textures that came with the character.
EcVh0 Iray Skin Shader:
This is another collection of shader presets. These presets are specific to G2F, although I'm not sure why. The package does not include and textures, so it should not be UV specific.
I tried rendering my G2F character with the Valerie skin converted to Iray using several different type of Iray lighting. First the one I normally use:

I also used depth of field to put the background out of focus.
I definitely liked the results from Beautiful skin here best. The JM Human Shader produced skin that seemed to dark. The EcVh0 Iray skin shaders produce skin that was way to specular.
It is also interesting how different these skins look in the Painter's Light.
Remember, in all cases this was starting from an older skin that used the UberSurface shader in 3Delight. Hopefully I will have time to try these shaders on other skins using different shaders.
Thank-you for the review of Naturally Real V7. I am always interested in seeing what users think of my stuff. To answer the question regarding normal maps being disabled by default:
Normal Maps are particular to the V7 shape, so when using the V7 materials/textures on another shape you cannot use the normals. Also worth noting the normals just do the exact same thing the V7 HD morph does, so you need to disable the Normal Maps before rendering with V7 HD, otherwise the effect is happening twice. Since these are Iray specific materials, and Iray needs polygon detail (particularly with SSS, or you get normal smoothing artifacts -- look at the shadows in the armpits of the last posts iRadiance tests for instance), the V7 HD morph is definitely the preferred way to render these materials due to real geometry deformation being used at high subdivisions. Thus the best situation for the materials is to disable the V7 normal maps by default.
It is also worth noting that the Naturally Real V7 overall luminance (like the default V7 materials) is Iray optimized -- meaning real-world exposure values should be used in the scenes (the bottom of the linked page has a chart with proper EVs for various lighting scenarios, note that HDR images often do not correlate and typically an EV of 8-ish is better for scenes lit exclusively by them). If the exposure is not sufficient she will appear dull and dark, as should any well made Iray material.
As a side note -- I have noticed not alot of people using the Iray sun and sky system for testing. I have to wonder why this is...

In the 3Delight render I did reduce the specular on the Omri hair (so it did not turn grey at gamma 2.2) and I adjusted the glossiness of the straps on the slay dress material (so it would looks shiny black rather than white). I also reduce the velvet strength on Kelly's 3Delight skin from 20% to 5%. These are all pretty standard kinds of material adjustments I have been making to render at gamma 2.2. The 3Delight material is unfortunately optimized to render at gamma 1.0, which is the DAZ Studio default for 3Delight. The Iray material is optimized for gamma 2.2, since that is the default with Iray.
This is Anju for G3F by Nathalie_ and fly028. She was available at the Rendo store,
but for the moment she is unobtainium. There were some issues with the packaging. I am only able to render her because fly028 kindly provided a zip file that was missing from the download links. Kimiko also comes with 3Delight material, but I did not like how it rendered. It looked too specular.
Very nice renders, thanks. The Iray vs 3Delight comparisons, are very useful indeed. It looks like quite a few G3F outfits need work in Z-brush/Hexagon just to make them work on G3F figures. That Devious Dress came out well on Kimiko, especially the lack of whatever that triangle is called.
Anju, I know I had seen a G3F figure some where else, and was lost in the hectic rush of goings on here. I have read somewhere that Rendo can be rather odd about some things, like pulling things if they don't sell within a particular time-frame for some things. I figured G3F was so new, that Anju was yanked for lack of sails, or it violated something about selling stuff based on Daz3d newest stuff without 'legal whatever' from daz3d. Lol.
In separate news, sort of. A particular NailsFX was based on some scripting for Poser6-7 only, and it no longer works in newer versions of Poser (or something like that). And it was put into the 'clearance' section rather then just removed for being nonfunctional for the past nine years, lol. So I don't know, lol.
I did get some stuff from Rendo some time in the past few months, that I've yet to peal the 'new' stickers off of. I suppose, it's time to go and look threw that stuff, and return to lerking.

I suspect Rendo pulled Anju from the store because the download links were incomplete. Rendo is suppose to have some kind of a QA process for products, but it seems to be weaker than in the DAZ store. In this case though it may have been something that went wrong after the product was through QA, becaus it was the download links that were screwed up. There were suppose to be 3 zip files, but there were two links to different versions of the first zip file and a link to the 3rd. I got the 2nd zip file directly from one of the PAs. I suspect Anju was pulled either by Rendo or the PAs to avoid all the support issues the download links were creating.
