The 3Delight skin is too bright. The skin diffusion strength is 100% and the SSS strength is 80%. I think both of those need to be turned down to the 50-60% range.
The Iray skin brightness is much better, but the the skin looks oily or wet. I'm not sure what to adjust to fix that. I'll have to do some experiments.
Yea, agreed. Tho some Iray users like that wet sweaty look, and it dose work for some renders. I think that was discussed somewhere as something for 'top coat', whatever that is.
The diffuse in 3delight dose look a little strong. I've been finding that a diffuse strength of around 75% to 95% works good fos most (some are fine at 100%), and drooping gloss strength down into the 30% to 50% range. The color in that box also plays a big part. I'm not sure why some figure mats are 'inverted' with the diffuse strength way below 50%, and the Glossy cranked out to 100% to compensate (some have it set out beyond 100% strength). lol.

An equally good question, before heading off working with 'potentially' deferent color-spaces. How close dose a known quantity match between the two light rigs? I'm just pointing out, that a skin-tone difference like that can be many things (3delight dose not have 'ISO', shutter speed, etc in the render tab), lol.
P.S.
Somehow, I missed Kathy. Must have been released during some other major distraction of late. Thanks for the 'heads up'.
(EDIT) Now I remember, there was some doubt if there was a dial to control her shape, or if it was just an ON/OFF only set of DUF files?
When you say "gloss" I'm not sure if you are referring to SSS or the glossiness settings for specular.
Some old forum posts on SSS argue that Diffusion Strength + SSS Strength should equal 100%. Those post however do not discuss how diffusing colors or SSS colors effect this balance. Clearly you can make you diffusion and SSS colors to be black (0,0,0) and then it does not matter what the strength is, you have turned the skin off. For caucasion skin, the actual skin surface is suppose to be very pale. Much of the color of caucasion skin comes from the subsurface scattered light. If you have a diffusion texture that is based on actual photographs of human skin (which many of the best textures are) then the color of the diffusion texture already has the SSS build into it. When you add more SSS, the skin just gets darker. Some PAs try to correct for this by putting a light blue color in the diffusion channel in the shader to make the diffusion texture paler, then adding the color back in through the SSS scatter. From my experimenting with this in the AoA SSS shader, a combination that looks good at gamma 1.0 may not look good at gamma 2.2. There are some characters that when rendered at gamma 2.2 become a little bluish because the PA has overdone this.
I use the two InaneGlory light rigs because they were created to be similar in 3Delight and Iray. They, of course, cannot be identical, but at the moment they are as close as I can get. I have rendered a lot of other characters with both lights, so I know they are reasonably close.
I'm at work now and cannot check, but as I recall, Kathy has a dial, but the shape preset also uses other morphs. Just using the dial will not get you the same shape. I'll try to remember to check that when I get home.
It's all good, I ordered Kathy anyway, the mats at least look nice. I'm also running out the door to pay bills, so perhaps later I'll get a chance to look threw the dials. There at least is dials, lol. Glossy as in the simpler stuff in the Daz Default shader (that dose not have an SSS by default) was what I was referring to. AoA and Omni both have deferent names and stuff. And the bigger point being, Gloss is not diffuse, lol. And when Diffuse is dark (ultra low strength), it drastically darkens the other stuff in at least two shader sets (I don't remember what one other then the Daz Default). So you end up with a black figure in the view field, and the pre-compute delay takes "bloody ages" with spot renders setting up scenes, lol.
I don't remember whom it was (around a year ago, ish), tho the 'Specula strength' was at 200% strength, and the diffuse strength was at 30% strength. Simply swapping them to 90% diffuse, and 30% Specula (gloss1 and Gloss2 strengths), dropped the face plant time from over 40 minutes, to something closer to five minutes in 3delight, lol. And the Caucasian figure was no longer a black featureless shadow in the view field, lol.
I must run, chat later.
I check Kathy shape morphs. When You select currently used, there is a Kathy Head, Kathy Body and Kathy (all) morph used, along with about 100 other Genesis 3 head and body morphs. I tried dialing the Kathy (all) morph to zero and all the other morphys also went to zero. So Kathy does have a single dial morph as well as a single dial head or body morph if you only want the head or body shape. It is just a lot of the shape was done using the normal Gen3 head and body morphs rather than being a custom morph made in some tool like Hexagon, Blender or Z-Brush.
Thank you. I have nothing against figures based on shaping dials, or custom z-brushed shapes. It's just a bit of a drag when you want the shape at a lesser degree, and it only has an on/off preset or the ump-teen-million morph-set dials are not controlled by a master control.
That is actually incredibly good news for G3F, as cloths will probably fit better (So long as the outfit supports the body morph set, lol).
Haven't posted in a long time. I've been very busy.

The Shanda hair comes with standard DS shaders for 3Delight. The Colour Theapy add on is Iray shaders. These Iray shaders seem to use one B&W strand texture and vary the Base, Translucency and Glossy colors to create different hair colors. The Shanda hair has a number of fit morphs and a couple of styling morphs (including messy) but no movement morphs.
Happy New Year everyone. I've been very busy.
I tried out Brooklyn HD for Victoria 7. Also used in these render:

InaneGlory's Photo Studio - Point and Shoot Iray
The Shanda Hair comes with 3Delight color shaders. The Colour Therapy use Iray shaders. I used the Iray shaders for both the Iray and 3Delight renders, but this was a big mistake. The Iray render took 2 and 3/4 hours to reach 95% convergence. The 3Delight render took 5 1/2 hours because of the Iray shader used for the hair. If you use one of the original 3Delight materials it renders in about 30 mins but doesn't look as good.
The Little Black Dress also only has Iray material, so I used the Iray material for the 3Delight render. That did not seem to have any impact on render times.
Several people commented that Booklyn's skin look a little pinkish and assumed it was the lighting used for the promos. Her Iray skin looks a little pinkish here too and I have not done anything to the light color in these renders. You can adjust the skin tonne if you like.
This is a render I did a while ago, but just never posted. Here I used:

I was not happy with the hair in the Kallisto image above. Her black hair just faded into the black background. The lighting setup had two back lights on the head, which were suppose to separate the hair from the background but did not. I gave Hair Lustre Shaders for Iray a try. This image is the result. This is with exactly the same lighting as the previous image and is the effect I wanted.
I also added stockings from Morphing Stockings for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s) and changed the camera position a little.
I have purchased the hair lustre product and have never used it. This is a good argument for learning how to use it! It makes a big difference, looks great!
