I went back and rendered some images using different skin, eye and hair settings and the only conclusion I can come to is that the render dropped to CPU Only and I didn't notice it.

@Novica, she is lovely. I have the character and again you prove that we really need to test the characters at children too.
@L'Adair, I hope your wrist is better now? Isn't it amazing how we only appreciate a portion of our body when we smack it, and it gets even on the pain centers for days later?
@Fishtales, I loved the render and I am curious about the render switching to CPU. I am not sure when it started, but all my renders switch to it now, although I am set to GPU and my desktop has a 1080Ti and the laptop a 1080. Hmm, I just opened DS and looked at Advanced Settings for the laptop. I am attaching a quick snip of it. I have no clue what to do with it.
@memcneil70
It does it sometimes for no reason. I have noticed though that once it drops to CPU it keeps doing it until I save the scene and restart Studio. There seems to be a problem with nVidia clearing the buffers of items not required or doubled up. If I have a scene that constantly drops to CPU no matter what I do I close the scene, make sure I close Studio while the AUX Viewport is showing which is set for Textured Shaded. When I open Studio it remembers the view and loads with the AUX Viewport set to Textured Shaded. I then load the problem scene, make sure the AUX window is selected with the camera I want to use also selected (don't open any windows that are set for Iray or you will need to start again) and then hit Render. It seems to work most of the time and it is how I set up animations to run and they seldom drop to CPU in the middle of the sequence. I can't guarantee it will work but it is worth trying.
If anyone has some nature, animal, faerie, dragon, etc renders they'd like me to print out for Mom, just post them and I'll print them out. Needs to be family friendly of course and topics of interest to seniors. If you have humorous ones, those would be great too! I'd love to share with the other seniors but obviously nothing should be passed from room to room, even in a document cover that's sanitized. It only takes one droplet of virus. :(
Sadly I am headed to the barn in an hour or so as Elaine, the barn owner, has to put Jiggs to sleep this morning. He is her soul-mate of 31 years. It's time, he's slipping and falling recently and we want to do what's right before he injures himself. He's had a pampered life with Elaine. So I'm not going to be back until later today.
Would implied, non-sexual nudity be acceptable?
Thanks, I have a scene being set up now, and I will try that this morning.
@Novica, will post some in a bit.
Mary
So sorry to hear about Jiggs, though it sounds like he's lead a long, happy life. My condolences and hugs to Elaine and you, both.
You are welcome to use any image from my galleries. I usually render quite large, so you'll probably get a better print if you use the original image the pages link to. Here's the link to my 2020 Iray Renders, but feel free to use any image posted in my galleries.
For example, from last summer:
Hush, Baby
Here are 6 renders if you like. I applied the Windows 10 Photos app "Sahara" filter to them to (seemingly, as I'm not a graphic image filter expert) adjust the gamma and turn a cool temperature to a warm temperature cast. It also increased contrast and brightness (I think that's somehow a function of the gamma). I applied to all but the 3DU cartoon bear render.
If you know how to add filters & post effects to make the originals better for print then I do via that Sahara filter and want the originals please just ask.
I hope those nursing home residents are given all motorized wheelchairs, green houses, gardens, and other outdoor and indoor hobbies to pursue, and a staff of nothing but entertainment escorts and entertainment instructors to various those sorts of activities and other guests' rooms as sitting and laying around on beds and seats all day is very boring.
I have a couple of Dragon pictures in my gallery and maybe a couple of other 'suitable' ones and you are more than welcome to make use of any of them.
Here is a peaceful winter scene for your mom on a hot summer day.
If your mom likes fantasy and bright color, she might enjoy this one.
Has you mom ever had an aquarium? Here's a fish-eye view from the inside looking out into the room.
Here's nature and animals in a tropical Florida-like setting.
Animals and humor - here you go. This is titled Dog Days of Summer.
Musical seniors having fun - maybe a little too much wine involved.
Oh my gosh, these are FUN! Thanks, all!
Jiggs got a beautiful bouquet from Stetson, as is my custom, and we left a flower out for Pride who is buried next to Jiggs. I'm the only one who knew about this today, which was good as Elaine got to do things her way. (I asked repeatedly if she wanted me to wait outside the pasture but she wanted me with her.) We spent an hour with Jiggs beforehand, and I took shots for her, and some she didn't even know I got. Will be turning it into a video for her. Thanks so much for the thoughts, and the renders. I'll start going through those in the galleries probably this weekend. Love the ones on here! I've got to head to Office Depot and get another set of extra large printer cartridges :)
I am late, but I picked some of mine for you.
Mary
RIP Jiggs. Its always so hard to put down a pet, prayers for Elaine. Im glad you were able to be there for her during that trying time.
Fell free to use anything in my gallery for your mom! I did pick a couple she might like. Im also working on one now that has Feline Folk in it should be done later tonight or tomorrow.
Anyone tried the new Matte Fog function, bottom of the Environment pane?
I fired up an old render and tried it out. The one thing I can't figure out is how to move it back and forward. As you can see the top of the two sails at the front are sticking out of it.

I tried a few different settings but all they did was change the Opacity or Brightness.

Here's two cat and dog images for your Mum. I'm enjoying using the different breeds of dog.
I am so sorry for Jiggs and Elaine. Jiggs will be forever in her heart.
You can use any image from my galery, if any of them can bring a smile to your mother then I'll be very happy. If it is too small I believe I can enlarge it with Gigapixel, it does a decent job at it.
This one is not yet in my gallery but it's at Rendo and comes with a story, (I made it for a Toon contest a few months ago)
The cat with a crown
Ella has two friends : Silver the horse and Rocky the cat. She does everything in her power to make both of them happy.
Rocky got his crown a few months ago, as he sees himself as the king of all.
But now Silver can't wait anymore for his horn to grow so, until then, Ella made one for him so everyone sees the beautiful unicorn he is deep inside.
These ones can be found in my gallery :
Good morning, going out walking then will be back. LOVING these images, thank you so much!
One brief glance at the products today, why ruin a tropical setting with grafitti? :( That ruins that particular section of the little island for me, and when I can't use all the set, I'm less likely to buy. (I won't buy at 30% off anyway.) Is there a plain option, as I didn't see it? The section with that artwork looks to be the main section, the only place characters can "arrive."
Yep, the grafitti made it a no for me, too. Too bad. It looks nice otherwise.
I also have a few animal images in my gallery, helpfully put into a sub gallery named 'Beasties' :) Mostly horses and cats of varying sizes, but there should be some dragons, a moose and a squirrel too.
Novica, I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your mother and I hope that she will be fine.
Thanks so much, I love your work, will definitely grab some. :)
Like others have said, in the off chance you find something in my gallery your mom, or the other elders, may like. Feel free to print it out :)
@Novica, I saw a link to your thread Part 7, for https://www.daz3d.com/traveler-s-naturals-tropical-coral-vol-2 after you bought it. I was wondering how you handled the .mt5 files for the materials? All that I am able to see in my Content Library are the four props. If I have to, I can use a shader on it, since I probably would have to, since it is 3DL. All it shows now are purple coral.
Thanks,
Mary
I tired it & I think it's for the whole 'render dome'.
Hoping your mom stays well and in good spirits! I can't imagine how stressful it is. I will be keeping y'all in my thoughts!
My Dad is in a facility that has been in lockdown for almost three months, I guess. It's one of two places in town that so far, thank goodness, have had zero COVID-19 cases. We call every day, share a show via Discord or Zoom once a week, and have done some Zoom video visits, which is not the same and pretty complicated for a senior who's become challenged. (For part of the setup for each meet, we have to take control of his computer with TeamViewer or AnyDesk.) In fact, in case any here have seniors who are challenged now like my dad, a nurse just recommeneded ViewClix to me yesterday and I've ordered one. He doesn't even have to touch it, push a button, or anything. We can have a video chat with no need to coax him through things. It serves as a video/photoframe and when you want to call, you just connect to it, and voila!
Thanks for looking, that is what I thought. I'm beginning to wonder if it is one of the planes from Terradome 3, which is the environment, that is doing it?
You're welcome :) If is can bring someone a smile in these times, I'm happy to share.
I've no clue how they are doing it, but Matte Fog is a function native to Iray:
https://raytracing-docs.nvidia.com/iray/manual/index.html#rendering#matte-fog
I meant the poke through of the sails. I was wondering if it was one of them that the sails were cutting through and not the fog
I have been confused by that fog option myself. But, having lived in the San Franciso Bay Area and watched boats/ships on the bay in the fog, I have seen occasions where bits of the boats/ships poke through, where the fog is moving around the boat/ships. Wouldn't that be more real? Unless of course you are trying to show a heavy fog bank that extends toward the viewer?
