[Plugin does not work in C4D R23] As the title says.
Plugin does not show up. Probably due to the move from Python 2.x to 3.x.

By "plugin" do you mean the Bridge from DS?
Sure. What else? And I mean the extension that needs to be installed in the C4D plugin folder. So: a plugin.
Poking in to confirm; installed D|S and the Central thing (It's mildly inconvenient how they won't run in the Admin account, which I mostly use over the regular profiless) and noted that the DAZ-to-C4D Brudge said "Supports up to R21" but I gave it a shot anyway. It doesn't even show up in the plugins menu in C4D.
They should run in an admin account - as long as you haven't turned UAC off.
No, the bridge just doesnt work with R23. Hopefully they will update it sooner rather than later.
I think he meant DAZ Studio and Connect itself when he said that.
Hmm, they complained about it being an Admin account in general, but yeah I've got the UAC disabled because it was messing with other programs. Would they work if I have it set to Minimal but not entirely disabled? Granted right now I'm just using D|S to export some of my beloved critters into FBX format for the time being, but when (or if?) the bridge is updated to R23 that might bump up the priority of running D|S on my most used profile.
I haven''t tested, but I believe that minimal would work.
Fixing the *.pyp literally takes a few minutes to fix. Some other stuff like DRAWFLAGS_NO_REDUCTION dont look supported anymore in R23. Have a look at the Python 3 migration docs:
https://developers.maxon.net/docs/Cinema4DPythonSDK/html/manuals/misc/python3_migration.html
"If you are familiar enough with Python 2 and Python3" it says, which I am not. I know absolutely nothing about Python whatsoever, let alone updating a plugin with it :(
OP posted this on September 23rd. It's now November 18th. Any progress on this?
Post above mine seems to have solved it, but since I know nothing about python or editing python files, I'm still in the same "It doesn't work" boat as most everyone else xD
Watching this thread. If it's a simple fix, hopefully someone on the DAZ team with python experience will update this to work with R23.
If it's as easy as the poster a few messages earlier suggests, it shouldn't take too long. Shouldn't, but if it's not a priority for them then..... :(
It looks like DAZ does not maintain this plugin for C4D at all. The shader creation for Redshift is a big mess with textures put into wrong ports and normals imported wrong and with wrong parameters. Refractive materials are imported completely wrong. The C4D plugin does not work in R23 at all. There were absolutely no updates to the bridge since release at all. There should have been quite some updates for reported bugs (some of them very easy to resolve), but nothing.
@Xanathon - that's disappointing to hear though not surprising. A shame that technical support / allocated resources rarely seems to match up with the marketing hype.
I'd be happy enough just being able to load the stuff (Preferably with the Pose Morph feature and rigging intact) since I'm used to having to adjust shaders even after "automatic conversion". Used to use several render engines back in R13 and even when the conversions were passable, they still needed tuning (usually when it came to specular or reflection). Now in R23 I've been using Cycles almost exclusively and so I have to do things by hand pretty much all the time anyway xD
But yeah I guess the Cinema Bridge isn't high on their To-Do list :/
I don't really have much need for keeping D|S around while the Bridge isn't working to be honest, since I only really downloaded it for the Bridge. I'll hold onto it though just in case, but I feel it'll probably be a while :(
11.27 Bridge still not work for R23!
Is this something we can do ourselves or are we at the mercy of whenever DAZ feels like updating it?
I got a response back from Support saying they don't really offer any tech support for the Bridges "at this time" which sounds to me like it's not a priority. :(
So still sitting here with a bunch of content I can't use then, since the Bridge doesn't work :/
If it's really such a simple fix like a previous post said, I don't get why it's not already updated. "Literally takes a few minutes to fix" they claim.
Rezca, i have one, but No import!! (replace in r23 plugins..) In tehory, the API calls from c4d are untouched. Something's wrong... ¿The paths?

SOLVED. :D
https://www.mediafire.com/file/huqzq1353ds50i3/daztoc4d.pyp/file!!! Goodness, I'll give it a looksie when I get back to my 3D'ing computer!
Just gave it a try, and neither DAS Studio nor the Install Manager will run even if I boost the UAC to the maximum setting. It just keeps complaining about "This program can't be run under elevated permissions". :/
The shortcut isn't set to run as administrator?
Even the Product Library "Install Now via Install Manager" gives me that message, and trying to launch the executables directly without shortcuts. Once I switch to the normal account which I rarely use, they all run with no complaints even with the UAC disabled. They're not set to run as Admin.
I got the Bridge to run with the edited Py file provided above, but have gotten mixed results from it, but it's a free app so I can't complain too much.
Results from my observations however:
Digi-I's Biguana: Pose Morphs only load for the Head. Most joints work fine, except for the jaw which doesn't close properly and badly the tongue and neck.
Digi-I's Tyrannosaurus: Pose Morphs only load for the Head. Joints work except for the jaw, which drags its eyes out of the head and squishes most of the geometry in a horrendeous way.
Tyrannosaurus 2.0: No Pose Morphs, and the geometry imports badly deformed. The geometry returns to normal if I hit "Reset Bind Pose" however, and the Joints work fine.
Dinoraul's Dinosaurs: Tried the Trex, Spino, Suchumimus, and Monolo - All come in with the same jaw problems as the previous models.
Morphing Python: Pose Morphs only load for the Head. Joints work except for the jaws - the eyes remain in place and the rest of the head is deformed horribly.
The Constrictor: No Pose Morphs, but the joints work perfectly.
DAZ Wyvern 2.0: Pose Morphs only load for the head. Joints work perfectly all around, even the jaws.
Sea Dragon: Pose Morphs only load for the head. Joints all work perfectly, including its jaws.
DAZ SubDragon: Pose Morphs only load for the head. Joints all work perfectly, again even the jaws.
Something along the process is going screwy, either on my end or with the Bridge's, but the joint problems happen even if I use an FBX export. So some content is just unusable unless I re-rig it from scratch. Which I could do in Cinema sure, but that sort of defeats the purpose of the Bridge to begin with, and I don't really know a whole lot about rigging anyway :/
Hummm, no for Animals. The DazToC4d is only for G3/8 human characters... (perhaps, G2..), but export some like "no-human" is not avalaible whit this exporter, coz the bones change. Keep in mind, a is a example, any "alligator" dont have the same bones and the same structure. Is really a problem for send a Fbx in MotionBuilder or Maya. The binding/characterize is always a "hand-job" manually, no a "blow-job"! !! LOL
Rezca : Ah! And dont use C4D or Blender for exprot because its create a mess of bones in the "concept" of a Fbx like MotionBuilder (The Master.).The Fbx exporter of Daz is "this it what you what, this is what you get".
Like this picture. createt in c4d, and, then, imported at MotionBuilder! Soooooo nice! :D

Since its usually just a matter of fixing one part of the rig instead of doing it all over again I guess it's not too big of a deal. I haven't gotten around to exporting any human chatacters since I've almost never had need to use one, so I don't even know how I'd go about that in Cinema4D honestly. How clothes and stuff work with a character and the like outside of Poser/DS, was a mystery to me years ago and is a mystery to me now.
Rezca, understand your position, coz I am an industrial designer, closer to Solidwoks files (license paid ..) Like you, we use Daz and his characters for hardly anything. Personally, I hardly use hands and to make some renderings with my designs, as their use, in reality. Maybe I use a hand position, or the whole figure. What I run away from is rendering with Iray, which is despicable. Arlnod or Octane are better engines, even Maxwell from NextLimit. With my little old laptop from over 10 years ago, it worked like a charm. With just 8Gb of RAM, an Nvidia Gt450M GPU, in an Asus N53s. I have plenty for what I do. Each person has their target..., but never wait for Daz to solve a problem, for many tickets :D
