(Halloween) Norman Bates house from the movie "Psycho"
Hello friends!
I was looking around for a good version of the Bates House for Halloween but I could not find any one that was really, I mean REALLY close to the original.
So I started my research for measurements and pictures and... after many hours of work, I was able to recreate a pretty decent version of the house from scratch. The story of this well known house is very long. Over the years they kept changing it, adding walls, windows etc. At the begin there were just two walls on the set. Later on, for the following movie, they built a third wall and so on. The house also got used for different TV-Series, changing it's appearance again and again.
The version I reconstructed is very detailled. I tryed to capture as many impressions as I could.
The house is not ment to be used for inside shots but it has 9 different rooms with an own light source, so they all can be lit separately.
Anyways, I think it's turning out well. Its not finished yet. A lot of cleaning of the mesh is still needed as well as some retexturing.
Also I want to have the doors open and close as well as courtains on the windows. I also discovered some details I forgot, that need to be added.
Any suggestions? Please let me know what you think about it.

looks great but if you do sell it you better be forwarned this thread will dissappear
Well... it still needs a looooot of work. It might take a looooooong time before it will be ready to go online. If I feel like it, maybe it will go out as a freebie... Depends on how much time I have to invest... Time will show :-)
if you sell it in the DAZ store it's OK
they just don't allow offsite commercial threads
If I ever would sell it, I would sell it here... if... ever... :-)
It was just a thought. I have created so many things over the years and people here asked me so often if I would put to sell... well... it never happened. :-)
Just as a side-note; it may not be able to be sold, given that the "house" used for the movies was actually built on-set and as intellectual property, that could be an infringement to a copyright. As a freebie though, I'd be *definitely* interested in using this for personal renders. :)
Oh, really? But there are actually many availeable on sale in different sites. But anyways, I didn't create this to be sold. I just thought about it while creating because it turned out so (almost) perfect. :-)
For some reason it looks short. Is that some sort of perspective thing? Could you take a shot looking up at it from below? Thanks. Do want.
Yeah, it's the perspective. Usually this house is shown on a hill, with the camera way down. I don't have such a hiill in my database. I will fake one :-)
@MarcCCTx - As you can see, the house itself is not that tall when shot with a normal camera.
Here is a shot with different lens setting.
there used to be this one too

@WendyLuvsCatz - Yeah! I know that one. I ran across it while I was looking for the house. :-) It's a very simple model. Not what I was searching. This is why I created my own.
I think, it's extremely close to the original. :-)
I was simply pointing out many have indeed modelled it but oddy they seem to be no longer available so I hope that isn't foreboding for your own use it is fine and yours is looking good but selling it could be difficult if it is being policed.
Like I said, I'm not really aiming to sell it. That's not my goal. I just want to have the "perfect" Bates house. :-)
Here a detailled shot...
Another closer view
If you'll settle for any old Victorian house, it's the silohettes in the windows that the movie goers remember but the house itself.

My latest render with my own Bates house... :-)
@nonesuch00 - Thank you but as you can see, I built my own House. :-)
Your house is so beautiful!!
@Jan_Scrapper - Thank you! :-)
I for one would love to add this house to my collection of halloween houses if you decide to offer it for free!
Ecellent work!
@Saphirewild - Thank you! :-)
Oh yes! I believe it's perfect for Halloween scenes... :-)
Yes, it looks good.
Compared side by side, it looks like I need to lift the porch roof slightly...
A few little changes... added curtains, this makes the mother's silhouette look like a real shadow. Raised the top of the porch roof. Can you tell the difference?
not on my ipad sadly will need to look on a computer monitor later
This is the latest version and probably the last one. There is still some work to do on this model, but it's nothing noticeable with the eye. Just cleaning up geometry and some retexturing here and there.
I am happy with it. :-)
The clabboards look too aged compared to the roof and brick base siding.
