Quick question. Where does one install/copy a downloaded hair file? The runtime folder?

It depends on how the content is packaged - always open the archive (zip) file to see first. In this case, copy the contents of the zip to your content library (whatever you happen to call it). I'm not certain what the default name is these days - My Library, My DAZ Library or some such. I always use my own. That main content library will include folders corresponding to those found in the zip file, including the runtime folder, so you should be prompted about whether you want to replace any duplicate files that are found and just say yes - there won't be any, but it will warn you first if it does find one.

Ok just curious cuz some freebies I downloaded do t have any folders in the zip, just loose files. They appear to be .trx or .exe so I’m guessing runtime? Also some .ds files.

Are you sure they were legitimate freebies? Those sound like Daz installers, which shouldn't be in zips on another site.

I'm new to all this and have kinda gone down the rabbit hole so to speak lol I know I didn't get the files from DAZ in this case, but I've been downloading every free thing I can find on like 5 different sites, so I honestly don't remember which one I got these hair files from. If they aren't legit, that's disappointing. Not looking to steal stuff or learn advanced programming, just wanna make cool shit.

That's an .obj object file that probably can be imported and used as a prop, which you would parent to the head of the figure.  

You can find cool legit stuff in the proper format on Share CG, under the DAZ Studio and Poser categories.  You need to register to doenload..

You can put them about anywhere, and then import them into Studio; File>Import>Wavefront Object, and then save it to the Content Library; click on the Plus at the bottom, select Scene Subset, give it a name, and uncheck everything you don't want to save.  Then you can load it from the Library...

Kerya, thanks for all your hard work creating this great list of links.

I found Kozaburo's Maya Twintails Hair in the list and downloaded it. I had somehow lost it in the mists of time (obviously my administration is not as good as yours :) )

As the original model is somewhat lacking in morphs, I made a quick set of morphs for the tails so they can be independently moved; out, back, forwards, shorter, G3f fit. (this despite the vaugaries of GoZ... This is a really useful plugin that sadly suffers from random failures. I wish DAZ would update it properly.) The morphed tails are not perfectly symetrical but that adds to the realism (good excuse,eh?)

I would be happy to share these simple morphs, but I don't want to tread on Kozaburo's toes, and anyway I don't have my own site to host them at the moment.
