Hoping everyone stays safe in the last remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl. I happened to be up all night and watched it go in with Houston and Galveston on the wrong side. We lived in Houston in the late 1990's (Humble, TX) and it does indeed have poor drainage in the downtown areas. Now everyone is dodging tornadoes, so hope the midwest and East Coast fare better than the southerners. Thinking about all of you!  Being in Pensacola, can't wait until another one enters the Gulf. (wrinkles nose.)

I don't know if you have Amusement Park - Ferris Wheel (https://www.daz3d.com/amusement-park--ferris-wheel) or not, but if you do, do you know if the wheel  spins.  As far as I can tell, it does not.  I bought it last Spring.

Hey there!  I do have it, but haven't installed it or used it. Perhaps someone who has actually done so can assist. The place to look would perhaps be in the Scene tab, breaking down the "bones" of it and seeing if in the parameters something shows up such as a slider for any of those. That's about all I can think of.

Sorry to say that nothing moves, or at least not as expected. All parts are static props, with little or no attempt at rigging. The Center Points on the chairs (Cabins) are at the bottom, so rotations are messed up. You can spin them, but the top section spins, too. And, the gates do not open. Ansiko's is not much better, wheel does not turn, but some of the chairs can be rocked and the gates opened (the instances hierarchy is messed up). Haven't tried powerage's yet. The original Ferris Wheel (with Iray add-on) rotates and the seats stay horizontal as the wheel spins, and you can rock them back and forth.

I do not own the Powreage model either but it at least has posing controls. It also has the following comments in the description:

    CHARACTER POSITIONING IN NACELLES:

11 poses are included for G8F and 11 poses for G8M.
Make sure to apply the poses of your characters along with the default pose of the Ferris wheel.
Here are the steps to position your characters in the nacelles:

    1/ Load the ferris wheel.
2/ Load a G8F in your scene (do the same for G8M, go to the subfolder for G8M poses).
3/ Go to the G8F Poses subfolder, apply the pose of your choice based on which nacelle you want your G8F in.
4/ In the hierarchy, select G8F and drag it onto the corresponding nacelle (N1 pose with n1 part of the ferris wheel)

Repeat the above steps for all your characters. It is important to parent each character to the relevant nacelle (1 to 11) so that they follow the ferris figure.

And using all of the power in my OCD skillset I can see that the nacelles are in different locations in some of the renders. There is only one nacelle of each color, so that helps determine if they appear to be in different locations. I used the Blue, Red, and Purple as they stand out clearly. Only 2 different positions are shown in the promo (pics 1-6 and 7&8).

Thanks much.  I suspected that the answer was No.  I searched all of the parameters prior to posting and had found nothing to rotate regarding the wheel itself.  I have two other Ferris Wheels – the Sarsa/DAZ Original Ferris Wheel and one by Mausel from 2010 from the long defunct Content Paradise store.  I had tested the Sarsa Ferris Wheel and confirmed that it rotates nicely and also noted that the seats remain horizontal as the wheel rotates.  Perhaps its vintage look can be updated with “shinier” shaders.  The Amusement Park - Ferris Wheel set looks nice so it’s too bad that the wheel doesn’t rotate.  The Mausel Ferris Wheel doesn’t rotate properly; you can rotate the wheel by rotating it on its z-axis, but the gondolas aren’t rigged to rotate and remain horizontal.

Only got 0.04" of rain as Beryle went around to the North of me here in Harlingen.

On the other hand had thunderstorm yesterday that gave me 1.44" of rain but it was a soft rain and good for my plants

Here in Cincinnati we've been under a tornado watch since 3 PM until midnight, with periodic bands of heavy rain as the remnants of Beryl move past. No wind to speak of but roatation in several of the storms as they pass by.

I can't remember where I read it, but it was CNN or Accuweather- there were over 113 tornado watches so far. Yikes! Amazed at the radar, even tonight (12:15am, actually Wed morning)  It still looks like a huge swirling tropical storm, even though the winds are down.

This Ferris Wheel. I did this annimation five years ago and I amsure it came with the product. I haven't looked at it since so I can't remember how I did it. I also did one withe the swing ride and carousel.

Finally got around to installing the powerage Ferris Wheel. The wheel spins, and the individual baskets all pivot to stay level. You must use the top-level "Poses Controls - Wheel Turn" to get the proper movement.

Here's a MEGA link to a little animation I made with Filament. powerage ferris wheel.mp4

Every time there's a tropical disturbance, I turn to Tropical Tidbits to get an education on what it means. Thanks for the tip from many yeas ago @Novica

You're welcome!  The other one which shows the orange and yellow cones/ future development track is https://spaghettimodels.com/    I don't watch his videos much, he rambles and thinks it should mostly be for social rambling- but if you fast forward through parts of it, you can see some interesting things. Atlantic season quiet for now, but Michael Lowry has an email list with tropical reasoning, and here's some interesting facts from his Eye on the Tropics newsletters (which I highly recommend):

"Consider 1961, which saw Category 2 Hurricane Anna in July then went 46 days before Betsy formed in September, a Category 4 hurricane immediately followed by Category 4 Carla and Category 5 Esther. It was a year scraping the bottom of the ACE barrel (Accumulated Cyclone Energy or ACE is used as a scorecard for seasonal hurricane activity) at the turn of September that even to this day remains a top 10 ACE producer.

Or more recently 2022 that went an astounding 61 days between Colin on July 1st and Danielle on September 1st, a season with a third the activity through September 2nd as this season, but which ended above average, with a catastrophic hurricane hit (Ian) and the latest hurricane strike on record for the Florida peninsula (Nicole)."

After an early start it has been really quiet but that can change in a heartbeat. Hope all is well with you.

Yep, Francine now forecasted to be at least a Category 2. We're going to get 2-5" here in Pensacola. Tornadoes are the unfortunate impact since we're on the right side. Hope you Louisiana folks are prepared and get limited impact. Thinking of you!  (And tracks can change. The Weather Channel and NHC butchered Sally's track and she came here instead of Louisiana.

I have an artist to recommend in Face Book. Discord Androide does some really cool things. His chalk art on the sidewalk was so unique! I love the little boy folding clothes. Dang, wish I had thought of that with my kids ages ago!

I subscribe to The Colorado Sun and today (or yesterday) there was a wonderful gem about Silverton, CO turning 150 years old. Instead of celebrating with tee shirts and hats, the town put together a YouTube video of their history documenting it in photographs and stories. Real Western miners, a town, their clothing, transportation, narrow guage railroad, and on up through the decades to today. So if anyone is looking for inspiration, this might work as a start. If nothing else, the views are outstanding.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I just saw this post, as usual I am not getting notifications. That was such a cool thing to do!
Hope alll you other Floridians are evacuated and safe from Hurricane Milton. I bought a house in St. Augustine in late August, so am watching this closely. I am still in Pensacola packing things up, so not in the danger zone. The house should be fine as I would never buy in a flood zone and always buy homes on elevated lots. Certainly not a guarantee but definitely a lot less stressful. I'm on the Facebook group watching the posts about the neighborhood, and it's going well. The streets flood but not the lawns or homes (and that was the same input from 2016 Hurricane Matthew, which sideswiped the St Augustine area but dumped torrential rain amounts. The neighbors were doing comparisons)

So who else is in the hurricane? How are you doing?

Trading the far west of Florida for the far east I see. Hope the move goes well! I dread the day we have to pack up and move. Hope your animal friends take the move well too.

We are taking from Sept-April to pack things up and take things over via our truck and car on the weekends. It's really nice to spread it out, that's for sure. The dogs absolutely LOVE wide open back yard (four palm trees) and the golden retriever of course loves observing the ducks in the pond behind the yard. When I think of ponds, I think of round ones, but this is like a canal that curves around the neighborhood and is very wide.  The Pensacola home literally take a full weekend just to do the front yard (pulling weeds, trimming branches to HOA specs, etc) and the back yard takes two  weekends. So while I built a wildlife habitat, I don't want to do this anymore with climate change making things hotter and hotter, and physically going to decline at some point. I want to be able to enjoy having a yard that just has minimal weeding.

Was going to ask everyone, what do you think about the different levels of membership now? I rarely check in to Daz as been busy, I didn't renew my Daz+ membership last year as stopped buying and wasn't investing in Genesis 9. How are all of you doing? Genesis 9? New priority level of membership thoughts?

  • RGcincyRGcincy Posts: 2,836

"what do you think about the different levels of membership now?"

Not a fan. I still have Daz+ until June but likely won't renew at $10 a month unless there's a good deal at some point. And I'm not interested in trying Premier at $228/yr ($1140 for 5 years). Much of the benefit requires you to keep spending more money on top of the base price. I've never cared for the token system either as they often expire before I see something I want to buy (like you, I have an extensive content collection dating back 23 years). I did like the September sale though, as I picked up a lot at low prices as I still mostly use Genesis 3 and 8.

Wow, I found the rollout thread for the Premier- what a mess. Not reading through 31 pages, but the fact there was no explanation of how people would use their already-paid-for out the ying-yang Daz+ memberships is mind boggling. I'm assuming that all got cleared up.

I did notice the new breeds for Daz Dog, those look adorable at first glance.

@Novica I think that is still a work in progress. My DAZ+ is still there to Sept 2025. For now I am watching and I think I am not investing in a gift card for the time being. Too many real life issues now and I would just like for Daz Studio to stay as the one leisure spot in my life. Now if I can get the Mac OS to play nice with itself and D|S.

I wiped out my store credit on the dogs. Even now when I walk the trash out, dogs in the complex recognize me and drag their owners towards me. The single cat lady who loves dogs and cats! Speaking of cats, we introduced Charlie and Simon to YouTube and they have become quite critical of streams for cats. I get many requests during the day to change the channel. And scratches on the screen as they both try to grab the squirrels, birds, and chipmunks.

I worried for you and everyone in the SE USA with both hurricanes. Milton's tornadoes were a surprise. I do hope you have access to a storm shelter if needed. I hope you love St. Augustine and keep us updated on your progress. I hope everything goes easy for you and your family.

Something I don't like about Premier is that this item Vicky 9 Anime Dark Elf Shape Add-On has to be downloaded and installed through smart content. I don't allow Studio to connect to the web.And if that's what Daz is pushing then my days using Daz are numbered  at least for Premier
