Oh dear Chohole said "Bryce' on the Carrara forum ....
The "New Store" for me is as bad as one of those overzealous electronics catalogues they shove in your letterbox.
And loading up the Daz site is the only time I wish I didn't have a 27inch monitor.
And I have to get out of my chair to find my sunglasses to cut down the glare, so I can navigate to the Fast Grab,
which never seems to change anymore..... so I guess it should be called "Slow Graaab" (heh)
Not only that, now I need one more click to find the Carrara forum.... sigh ;)
yes Bryce is very good, just having a small joke :)
Andrew and I are always joking about the perceived virtues of Bryce and Carrara. Especially once I admitted that I now had Carrara in my arsenal.
He told the Bryce forum once that he had kidnapped me and was holding me for ransom in the Carrara forum.
I just noticed that the Carrara info on the store says:
"QuickTime does not currently support 64-bit, however we are actively working on a "work-around" for this situation."
Is this a new statement that should give hope, or is this old and to be ignored?
I think it should be heeded, so that one knows to look for the work-around! ;)
As for the OT, now that I know what DAZ_Jon has stated about the work being done, I think this will be a much improved store. I like how it now works beautifully on any device... most cool!
Also, while not logged in, I see Carrara 8.5 Pro is only $171.00 USD!!! Great price for non-members! Well, coming from an artist whom knows that it is worth vast numbers beyond that! But then I see Bryce 7 Pro for only $19.95 USD!!! Ouch-a-ma-wow-ah!
I'll admit that I still have to find some time to break into Bryce and have some fun with such a unique, fun, and powerful 3D app... but I own it, so I can do that at my leisure. Man... if you don't own it already, member or not, twenty buck is an incredible deal for Bryce Pro!!!
An we do have a Bryce challenge, so if you break out into Bryce we may let you take part.
I had downloaded Bryce last year, when it stays free and I never installed it.
Since, I saw some superb achievements made with this program (and here above with the BunyIp's picture).
I would like to learn which are the best ways to import a Bryce project into Carrara,is there a thread about that somewhere ?
No nor is there a thread about the best ways to import Carrara stuff into Bryce.

In the challenge that involved the great race or don't fence me in, I think someone showed how to do a terrain in Bryce and import the result to Carrara. If not, there were at least some comparisons of the terrain editor tools of the two programs. In any case, you might check the sticky at the top of the forum for "Tips and Tricks..." and look through the WIP thread for that challenge.
I am also dabbling in Bryce and Hexagon (and Poser). The Bryce renders are always impressive.
That could be a good deal !
Is it possible to export a terrain from Bryce like .obj ?
And what about trees, water etc..?
Is Bryce does animations, and if yes, what are the export formats who works in Carrara ?
I know, we are not on the good place to speack about that, but you are the Bryce ambassador on this forum...
Oroboros is the Bryce animation guru. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45629/ He may be able to answer that one, as I only do static images.
To get some DS plants into Bryce I managed to get them into Carrara and then exported an OBJ from C to B, don't know if that will work in reverse. I am a real beginner with Carrara and I don't use DS at all. My work flow since I first started with Bryce (Bryce2) has been poser, exported as obj and imported to Bryce. I have always rendered in Bryce, so have never bothered exporting anything out of it, but I do know it is possible to export Terrains and trees as obj. Water not so much, as mats don't transfer from one to the other.

My memory is a little off. However, I think the key is the elevation map. If I remember correctly, Bryce's terrain editing tools were capable of much finer detail and control. If you could do the elevation editing in Bryce and export the map, you might be able to load the resulting map in Carrara without file size issue of an obj export.
That might be completely wrong though. :ohh: I'm still taking baby steps in Bryce.
Thanks for the link and your explanation, I'll try it tomorrow. ;-)

Possibly. I do know I am having a heck of a time trying to produce a halfway decent terrain in Carrara, I thought it was just because I am so used to the Bryce system. If you check my DAZ 3D Gallery (landscapes) you will see I am capable of getting some pretty good terrains out of Bryce, and I am nowhere near as good as David B and Horo.

When I sometimes get terrain files that are for Carrara/Bryce/Vue, they come for Carrara as RAW files. I have loaded them into the terrain modeller but have mixed results getting the terrain levels to work in the shading tree/room. But am sure that's my poor attempts. An EG would be this one below by Bijan. I need a tut!

...and impressively slow. ;-P
After Raydream quit working for me after hardware and OS upgrades, I dabbled in Bryce 3 or 4. I did some animations, but they were awful slow even at low AA settings. They looked very nice, but I found it easier to render stills to use as backgrounds for compositing with other animations or live action footage.
Unfortunately, a quick scan of the forums suggests that although Bryce can work at the finer detail greyscale, it has problems exporting at that detail. Maybe it has been updated? Anyway, here is the best thread I have found so far on the subject of Bryce exporting the heightmap for use in another program.

So I'd better stop speculating before I waste too much of other people's time. Best to ask in the Bryce forum.
Thank you Chohole, Silene and Diomède, when I see the Chohole's gallery and others, I'm impressed by the level of details of the terrains in Bryce.
I know, one could arrive there in Carrara, but I bet that Bryce has more fast and extended possibilities.
Even only like background, as EP suggests it, that must be interesting.
Install and try it tomorrow !
Hello Dudu
I am NOT an expert in Bryce, but I have been getting good results exporting landscapes as obj formats.
There are some excellent landscape packages for Bryce as well.
Have also been exporting some of the models as obj format as well, using them in both DAZ and Carrara.
There are some excellent tutorials for Bryce, ask at the Bryce forum and I am sure they will be able to help out.

so glad I let you go, it could have something to do with the big stick :)
On Bryce _ I actually bought it full price when it first came out. And I bought an excellent tutorial disc on it by the Bryce masters themselves Horo and Brinnen - but at the time one of my arms was in a brace and I couldnt get used to holding the shift key down with my nose - so I never had a chance to finish the tuts :(

Is there a Carrara thread on "Bryce to Carrara with details on work methods and links to tutorials" ?????
Thank you Bunyip02... that's very helpful!
Thanks for the thread hijack, everyone... it has really opened my eyes and will give Bryce another try!

Bryce... does it work on recent Mac OS's? The Mac App Store info says it doesn't work with 10.7 (it also lists at around $90 compared to the Daz store).
Anybody know if it works with 10.10?
No nothing more recent than 10.6.
I think I heard someone murmuring something about the rosetta stone or something similar.
Oh well. Guess I'll have to sit back and watch everybody else's excitement!
Here are a couple of posts from previous challenge WIP threads related to Bryce or heightmaps, and Carrara.

I should point out that Carrara's terrain resolution is set pretty low by default, but you can get some really nice looking stuff if you crank it up.
That being said, Bryce does have some nice terrain editing features that Carrara lacks. There are ways around that though.
I have a problem at the time of the importation of a terrain since Bryce into Carrara, who can say to me what occurs ???
