I think the second half of the Cripeman tutorial has some information on adjustments. Hope it helps. Otherwise, maybe you could give more details about what aspect of the terrain troubles you. It looks like a good start but I don't know what you were trying to make.

See the second half of the tutorial Bunyip suggested if you haven't already.

Yes I looked at the links and I followed them while reproducing the same thing on my PC.
I resized the terrain at 10000 (x100) and no problem with the textures size.
Exports in 3DS and Collada did'nt work while the format .lwo is well.
Only one problem, the textures exported in .bmp give an error message in Carrara but not the jpg…
    Thanks for your links !

Just picked up a copy of the B-word thing (it was only 6 bucks, with PC discount & voucher)

Got to reboot my iMac into Windoze every time I want to use it (which is a pain), but hopefully it'll help me improve my terrains & trees (& even if it doesn't, $6 isn't going to break the bank!)

Will be looking through the back challenge threads soonest, since I'm sure there was reference to Bryce terrains. (I'm trying to build a "simple" low hill with a rutted farm track going across it...)

I've had good results using Bryce terrains, both as .obj and height-maps. The secret is to export at a very high resolution and use .tif.

The .obj has has to be scaled up high in Carrara and the height-map method needs a lot of fine-tuning.

Beddy bye-bye time here - I'll go into more detail tomorrow if anyone is interested :)

Next portion of my WIP - the gorge down which they'll be racing.
Technical stuff - The terrain was made in Carrara from a height-map custom-painted in Bryce. Added fractal filter for cragginess.
The trees are all Xfrog billboards. Those along the cliff-top replicated on a plain, those along the river banks replicated using a distribution map. The rocks in the river were made in Carrara VM and replicated on a plain.

I had no idea that we could layer multiple height maps on top of one another. This adds an enormous amount of flexibility, as we can set the specifics for each map separately. Need to knock out some more pointy thingies? Make another nice, smooth map of the path you need, and put it in with whatever height is needed to create the effect. I'm loving this!
Howler really helps. With 3D Designer built in I can see my height maps before I'm done with them. PuppyRay can actually texture it and raytrace it using my graphics card with Global Illumination! I'm loving this! :)

Yes, Roygee, et al, please provide more details of steps necessary to carry this out

Edit: and please comment on the bugs identified in the following thread.

Are they anything to be concerned about?

Sorry, guys - I'd meant to do this today, but my daughter had a burglary last night, so I spent the day getting stuff at her place organised, broken gate fixed, insurance claim, etc.

I'll see how it goes tomorrow and start a new terrain thread so as not to unduly derail this one :)

Terrains really do need a good, full discussion and this is one of the most neglected areas of Carrara, tutorial-wise.

Sorry for this On-topic post. ;)

Does anyone else have this problem displaying the Store on an iPad?
The side scrolling list goes off the screen to the right, and you have to do a "pinch" gesture to see the entire thing.

Try trashing the DAZ 3D cookies. I don't know where they're located on an iPad, as I don't have one of those newfangled Speak & Spells™.

The iPad Safari settings are accessed through the Settings app.
I use my iPad for the forums all the time without the problem that you describe. But I'm still using an old iOS.

However, the DAZ store seems to have major iPad display issues, and I was wondering if anyone else was seeing it.

EDIT: Stezza was faster on the draw. :)

I know you're getting long in the tooth Andrew, but the old ways of capitalizing names is incorrect for Apple products. The correct way is to only capitalize the second letter on names that begin with, i. Thusly, Imac becomes iMac and Ipad becomes iPad. Personally, I think this needs to be carried through to all words as the uniformity will help you old geezers adjust faster. Let's try a couple sentences as an example:

tHe rAin iN sPain fAlls mAinly oN tHe pLain. sEe hOw eAsy iT iS? i bEt yOu wIsh yOu hAd tHought oF iT fIrst! hA hA hAaaaa! sUcker! ;-P

How does the store look to you? Do you see the same issue that I posted about earlier?

Okay, I wasn't signed in and Carrara 8.5 Pro was on top of the store page under the "What's Hot" banner. But there doesn't seem to be a way to navigate to the information pages like, System Requirements, What's New, etc., without following a link, which is what I did.
When I got there I was very disappointed. I never liked the "new" pages they made after the release of Carrara 8. They used to have all kinds of cool pictures and diagrams with bullet text. Like a catalog. They changed it to be a rather boring pile of words with a few stunning images. The images were cool, but the words fell vastly short from describing how excellent Carrara is. Now it's nearly the same words, perhaps even less of them, but in the crappiest formatting (or lack, thereof) imaginable! Not at all what one would expect for our super-awesome software from a company named: Digital Art Zone 3D! I really hope that this is really REALLY temporary! Argh!

Sorry... I love Carrara and would love to see it displayed properly, is all.

When you first go to the "Shop" page it seems fine until you swipe the screen to the left revealing that the "What's Hot" list is spilling off the screen to the right.

Refer to the images below (they may not post in the correct order).
Open the Shop page - http://www.daz3d.com/shop/
Swipe the main header to the left.
Pinch the screen in the exposed white area to shrink the view and reveal the entire page.
