It certainly did! The lighting in the hair looks very nice too- love the strands. I know who to go to when I need help with Garibaldi hair :)LOL Gone is our resident expert, I hardly use it to be honest. I did use it for this image, http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/50173/ for the eye brows
Here is my favorite though simple....Trish
used The white tiger for the big cats 2 http://www.daz3d.com/white-tiger-for-daz-big-cat-2
Beautiful work everyone.
I'm choosing this one because I had a lot of fun creating it and always enjoy working with these characters. I had found Predatron's Lamplight Vignette in my library and decided I should use it in a render. Since I love autumn, I tried to capture the mood at the end of a damp autumn day.

I only became enamored with this software a couple months ago, so not much for me to choose from yet, but my favorite is the one I did yesterday! The lights turned out mostly exactly as I pictured it, though I ended up making the lights all one color instead of multicolored like I'd originally planned.
Rendered in Octane, which does an amazing job. 120 little lights shining through caustic glass onto shiny and complex materials and the quality was acceptable after about an hour. It's rather expensive, but I think LuxRender and Reality 4 could probably give very similar results at the cost of a much longer render time.

For me, my best one would be my last one of the year "The Girls Dorm". I did this as a promotional piece for the school girl uniform "Time for School".

Wow - tough to pick just one. This is the year I finally started getting serious about my hobby and I had a few I am really proud of. I guess if I have to pick just one though, I'll go with this one. It's not just an image I'm artistically happy with, it kind of perfectly fits my sense of humor.
"The Queen's Day Off"
The tub and bath stuff are from the Rub a dub bundle: http://www.daz3d.com/rub-a-dub-bundle
The chess pieces are from Fancy a Game of Chess: http://www.daz3d.com/fancy-a-game-of-chess

The window is from DMR Dreamart 2 at renderosity.
Chessboard modeled by me, the background is a free HDRI (not sure where I got it). Rendered in Carrara 8.5 Pro with a little bit of post-work to add some additional suds and foam.
Mark
Mark,
thats a different way of doing it. Rather amusing too
Love the bathing cap and the King peeking in from behind the screen.
Here is my favorite render of the year. Rendered in Poser. I don't have the scene file anymore, so I'm not really sure what all I used here.
Just looking at this picture makes me dizzy!
Cheers,
Alex.
Oh Slosh.. that's a wonderful render... and I'm getting dizzy too... I have a fear of heights.. eeeep! Thanks for sharing her.
Happy New Year!
I can see why the tiger is your favorite- very powerful Trish! Simple is good :) And Rebeccabear, love the glow of the lights and the beam of light coming down. Funky fun!
Jindi- the flock of birds is a really nice Fall touch- so many migrate and it really adds to the feeling of the autumn scene. I like that she is on the move and he is is at a different pace too.
MN-150374- I really like that Nano Suit. The gold light rimming the head adds quite a nice touch to the shoulder and chest lighting. Something else that caught my eye was the difference in the silver stars to the gold lit backgrounds- it makes a nice division.
Mattymanx- good heavens, are all those people in the background there, or is it a- what's the name for it when you do like a background set like people in a stadium? A large canvas, you know what I mean? I can't think of the word. That depth of field is awesome and the camera tilt really adds to the image.
MDO2010- OMGosh, laughed so hard. That naughty King peeking is HILARIOUS! Well done Mark!
Slosh- hmm, first thing I noticed was the inside of the lamp. I was curious! I love that she is so "ho-hum" about the height. And the shadows are really well placed- like the soles on her feet. Another day in paradise. I used that set, and put it on the ground and had my character actually sitting on it like she was only inches from the ground, but I don't remember what set it was either. It is perfect for your genie as it has that exotic feel.
I suppose this would be my favorite for 2014.
Serengeti Cyclorama
Big cat 2
Genesis with CC Panther and other tweaks
AoA grass shader
AoA advanced lights
Both characters were furred in Garibaldi.
DS render no post work.
I believe my favorite is this one:
- For one it is my favorite sport
- and it took me quite some time to get the all set up: the rock formation, the belay rope, and the pose
The items I used are listed here: http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/50791
Gorgeous render of the climber! Really pulls me in.
-Rak
Beautiful Garibaldi work and lighting. The blue mountains in the background really make the gold foreground stand out. Nice action!
Wing.philopp- I like that you went with dark pants and common sense clothing, not a sensational bright color to make him artificially stand out. The lighting on the thigh shows the leg quite nicely. Your rope has such natural flow- VERY nice!
Thank you very much Rak.
Thank you. I originally had a different camera angle but I liked this one more as it showed more of the stairs and opend things up for me to add more. There are 18 G2F girls all together.
This is my favorite of 2014. Only because all those rocks were hand carved by me. hehe.
Not only your rocks look good (nice going!) but your grass and flowers blend so well with them. A very natural landscape!
Thank you :)
There was a few poke throughs but nothing too disastrous.
I think the thing that bugs me the most about that render is that the eagle looks more like a porcelain decoration then a real eagle.
Hmm.. Now that I think about it... That brings up a new idea... =D
This is my favorite of 2014.
I use a rubbish laptop for DAZ. would i get massively improved results from a better pc?
To make this monster I used 3 genesis models and linked their pelvises together.
My laptop wouldn't render the full image so i had to do it in bits. I used each render as the background for the next image, there was 4 renders in all. I was quite happy with the result.
You likely wouldn't get hugely better results, you would get faster rendering and would be able to render it all in one shot. Now if you had to turn down your render quality settings for your computer to be able to handle it, then yeah you'll see some improvements if you can render at high quality without it taking a week. In general the beefiness of the computer doesn't effect the quality of the outcome though, just how long it takes to finish rendering (processor dependent) and how many things you can load into a scene before you run out of memory.
Thanks Fisty for the advice, My longest render has been like 8 hours so far. while doing the image above my laptop kept crashing when i added all the items in one scene? must have been having one of those days where it can't be bothered.
That's due to running out of memory. You can reduce the amount a scene is using a lot by reducing the size of the textures used in a2D editor (photoshop/gimp/psp) Most skin textures are 4000x4000, if you make a backup copy of the original and then scale it down to 2000x2000 the file size will be a ton less and use less ram when you use it. In your render above even the figures in the front are only max 400 pixels, you won't see any difference in the final outcome with a scene like that even if you scaled them down to 1000x1000. Another trick is to set up part of the scene, like the 1st set of background figures, hide everything else in the scene and export as on .obj.. and set up you next set and export, etc.. then load your 3 .objs of fighting people and your machine will probably handle it. (if you reduced the texture size before hand) Static objs use less memory than full figures with rigging and all that extra stuff under the hood.
