    Kathleen (Katy) Reynolds.

She earned the name Mischief from her fellows and Cat from the Peloran. They have a thing for animals. And she had a thing for practical jokes when she wasn't being a serious starfighter pilot.

She's the old lady of the squadron, or so Jack sometimes charges when he's feeling a bit courageous. Or stupid. ;) She was old enough to watch the Peloran make Contact, so she really is a fairly old Cowboy, though appears to be in her twenties like most Ageless. A fifty-year veteran of the United States Space Force before the Shang attack, she was one of the most experienced Cowboys and became a certified ace at the Battle of Fort Wichita with six Shang kills. And she did it with an old Hellcat just to add salt into Cowboy wounds. She was also the first Cowboy that wasn't a Marine. Yeah...more salt. ;) She would not be the last.

Her easy manner outside the cockpit helped her gain acceptance amongst the Cowboys quickly, and being assigned to Jack's wing she quickly learned how the squadron, and later the wing, acted and flew. It was a steep learning curve, but she soon learned the tricks of how the Cowboys worked and she became one of the best of them. A full squadron commander in later years, she would lead the final assaults into numerous Chinese star systems, and her squadron was part of the multi-year campaign to clear the Hyades Cluster.

Post-work in Paint Shop Pro 7. Mainly dealing with some poke-through I couldn't deal with the normal way. The boots and pants are not a perfect fit for each other. ;)

Her body is based on the Taylor character.
    Her skin is from Brisa

The shirt is from Casual Jeans for G2F
The jeans are from Horror Survivors Cris for G2F
The boots are from Colonel Chaos for Genesis. I originally used different boots but they fractaled out badly when loading from a saved file so I replaced them with these boots.

Lovely job. Though, she looks a bit young for 20 (even if she is 50).

True...that is one of the points where sometimes the model chosen doesn't reflect my original vision...;)

    Key word...original vision...hehehe

One of the bits of lore in my universe is that the Peloran brought medical treatments that increased our immune systems and slowed the aging process...a lot. And in one in a million cases froze it altogether. At whatever age the person was when they took it. Were you 12? Congrats. You'll be 12 until you die...and you will not die of old age. Sixteen or seventeen like what she appears here? Hope you like that look cause it's yours... Until someone or something kills you. :)

Most people now don't get the final treatments until they are in their 20s "just in case" and such. But in the early days...well...crap happens. ;)

Here is Blaze, Katy's cybernetic partner.

Katy and Blaze had been partners for half a century when The War started. Blaze started life in the United States Space Force as one of the last deployed variants of the F-4 Blackhawk starfighter, and she remained in service on that platform for nearly twenty years. Finally she and Katy earned promotion into an F-7 Hellcat squadron and she was allowed to upgrade to the spaceframe she would use for the next three decades.

They served throughout Western Alliance space in their five decades, “negotiating” with Russian and Chinese smugglers, raiders, or claim hoppers in the way that starfighter pilots are best suited to. They served on forts older than they were, or in out of the way systems that almost no one could even name. They defended new colonies out beyond the edge of normal civilization, where exchanges of fire with Russian and Chinese naval forces were common. It wasn’t war of course. It was just a…prolonged disagreement over which systems belonged to whom. Katy and Blaze were very good negotiators.

They were recalled to Earth in 2300 and began a tour of duty at the United States Fortress Command, flying off the final defensive line of fortresses in Earth orbit. The Western Alliance did not entirely trust the Russian and Chinese signatures on the Lunar Treaties after all, and so they were ready in case their long adversaries decided to open fire inside the orbit of Luna. Blaze was upgraded to the latest version Hellcat at that time, though spent most of the next few years playing escort to civilian freighters in need of an example to follow on their way to docking or landing.

The initial Shang attack completely avoided the orbital forts by exiting hyperspace far closer to Earth than anyone had thought possible at the time, but the fortresses redeployed to deal with the new threat. When the Shang returned to attack Fort Wichita, Katy and Blaze were ready to welcome them with bells on. Even though she was built with the best American technology, Blaze and her sisters were heavily outmatched by the Shang technology and casualties were heavy. Fort Wichita was hit particularly hard, with most of her structure shattered before a combined American-Peloran fleet counterattack including Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112, the Cowboys, drove the Shang away. Katy and Blaze accounted for six Shang fighters in the battle, and helped keep three Shang frigates from focusing fire on the station long enough for the fleets to deal with them.

In the weeks that followed, word reached them through the grapevine that the Cowboys had been officially transferred to Peloran command and were being fully upgraded to Peloran tech standards. Having fought the Shang without it, Blaze really wanted that tech so Katy acted. A quick reminder to her Space Force superiors that allowing those Marine Corps pukes exclusive access to Peloran tech was just stupid (one could never trust them not to break their toys after all) was all it took to get them to support her request to volunteer for service with the Peloran fleet.

There they gained access to the best Peloran tech and became the primary spear of the Alliance fleet as it alternatively defended against and attacked Chinese and Shang forces. They fought in the Battles of Alpha Centauri, Epsilon Reticuli, and Serenity in just the first two years of The War, and would go on to lead the clearing of the Hyades Cluster.

Blaze here is rendered in Daz 4.7 like the other renders.
Postwork in Paint Shop Pro to deal with issues with the shirt poking through the jacket that I couldn't get fixed in DAZ.

I don't honestly remember what body I used for Blaze. I have a vague memory of it being the Karma shape as a base, but when I look at the dials I can't see anything. The head says I am using the Norma dials.

    Her skin is from Courtney.

Hair is Nordic Hair for G2F

Shirt is from Emotions for Teen Josie for G2F
Jacket is Leather Jacket for Genesis
Pants are from J Girl for G2F, one of my favorite jean sets for girls.
Boots are from Afternoon Trippin for Genesis

Natalie is a cybernetic intelligence, born to be a fighter in the Republic of Texas Marine Corp Fighter Attack Squadron 112, the Cowboys. The Cowboy she partnered with was a big city lawyer before The War so she picked clothing that he was comfortable. A nice business casual look when not in Marine uniform.

She fought in most of the opening rounds of The War in both the Terran and the Alpha Centauri star systems, and was all three early versions of the Avenger starfighter during that time. Fully upgraded with Peloran tech, she soon found herself sent to support numerous cruiser or battleship squadrons to facilitate better coordination between Alliance fighter squadrons.

She was reunited with several fellow Cowboys as part of the Third Alliance Fleet two years after the first Battles of Alpha Centauri and she and her pilot fought at Epsilon Reticuli. Her pilot died. She survived. With battle ongoing and her remaining drone fighters still a powerful force, she linked up with Captain Jack Hart and helped screen the remaining Cowboys and the ships they protected out of Epsilon Reticuli.

Most fighter cybers shut down after losing their pilot, and one of the founding principles of their agreement to fight with the Alliance is that their term of military service is immediately annulled. No cyber is forced to remain in the military. Natalie chose to continue working with Jack for a time, and changed her clothing slightly to reflect Jack’s Mid West roots. She later joined the Wolfenheim Project and changed what she wore again.

Her multiple pilots and multiple missions over the years have given her a distinct case of multiple personalities over the years. While she always excels in her missions, her personal relations with others can be…erratic. One never knows entirely which version you are talking to when dealing with Natalie. This makes her a rather exciting cybernetic intelligence to deal with as she is far less predictable than others of her kind.

Shown below is Natalie wearing one of the outfits she chose while working with Jack following the death of her first pilot. This was during the recently unclassified events that occurred on Serenity and Alpha Centauri before she joined the Wolfenheim Project. Those stories have recently been published in the Angel Flight and Wolfenheim Rising series available in book stores throughout Terran space, giving us a more detailed understanding of many of the Early War campaigns. The information given for the launch of Third Fleet in those stories is impressively different than the official record still states. As usual, Peloran representatives have declined to comment on the issue.

Natalie is built on Saskia for G2F
    Hair is Charm Hair
Jacket and Jeans are from Hongyu's Cowgirl 3 for V5
Shirt is from V5 Summer Set for Genesis
Shoes are from Effortless Cool for Genesis, one of my favorite clothing sets. I would love to see it updated for G2F and G2M

And yes, this is a G2F figure clothed entirely in Genesis stuff. If one has the right morphs and such, the Genesis clothing works really well. Some of them fractal out on loading and they don't always hang right due to the generational differences, but they USUALLY work very nicely if I say so myself. :)

Wow...I've been out for a while. Busy busy busy with stuff.

But here is an example of something else I'm working on, and hoping to turn into money. ;)

    This is Alicia.
She is a Cowboy, fighting the alien Shang in protection of Earth, or at least the parts of it that fight against them. ;)

But here she is playing a fantasy roleplaying game and taking part as a long range sniper...ahem...a ranger. She and her party are sworn to defeat the craven usurpers and return the princess to the throne her parents died on. She is ever ready to put an arrow in any member of the Red Guard that she meets in her travels.

This is rendered in Daz Studio, using 3d delight, with no post processing.

Alicia is G2F figure, but I don't remember what morphs and skin I used for her and the dials don't give me a clue.
Hair is Love Me Hair for Genesis I believe. I don't think that hair has been updated to G2F yet.

Base clothing is the new Ranger Outfit for G2F, with props. The bundle is a very good price right now BTW.
Added Darkwoods Heroine for G2F shoulder guard, sleeves, and knee guards to give her a bit more protection against the elements and enemies.

All in all, this is a look that I think works very well, and I like the combination of the two outfits a lot.

I'm rather hoping it will myself..hehehe.

And here is Jack again. This time he's playing a rogue...mmmm....but is it really playing if that's what he does all the time? ;)

It is the same base character as that shown further up in this thread, with one difference.

The Hair is now Buenaventura Hair for G2F and G2M. I like the way it looks, and it has the option of a cowboy hat which fits the character. So its a win win there...;)

The main outfit is Ashe for Genesis
Added Darkwoods Heroine for G2F shoulder guards.
I can't remember what arm guards and cape I used. I will try to figure out when I'm on a computer I can load the scene with and update this post with those.
The daggers come from Dagger Dreams, a Free item right now.

This here is Jack and Jasmine. They are investigating something that other people don't want them to investigate. There was no breaking and entering involved. Honest. The door opened when they arrived. It's like the place wanted them to come in. Of course there seems to have been other people there already. There may have been some suggestions that our plucky heroes leave. There also may have been some statements about minding your own business. There may also have been some running. And maybe a locked gate in the way with no time to break it open. There may have been some rude comments before someone opened fire. But Captain Jack Hart is completely blameless of any wrongdoing of course. He is an innocent victim while following an official investigation. Honest. Check the computers. You'll see the investigation is logged and approved.

Now Jack may be the equivalent of a super soldier but he still doesn't enjoy getting shot. It sucks in fact. So he instantly tries to get whatever cover he can from the wall when the shooting starts.

Now Jasmine is a cybernetic intelligence who can hack into any computer system wearing a complete android body and usually carries around enough firepower to overthrow a third world government. And somebody's trying to kill her human. Nobody kills her human, so she pulls her favorite Big Guns out from under holographic cover and charges straight into battle.

Looks good. Can't remember if you use Iray or 3dl.. if it is Iray I would love to see the emission on the weapon fire increased a little show that the characters are a bit better lit.

  • Medron PrydeMedron Pryde Posts: 304

Yes, the lighting was the greatest weakness of that render.

I did it for a contest in which that building was one of the options.  I used the building lighting and that is how it lit.  :(

I do render in 3Delight.  I am trying to use iray but so far have yet to figure out how to get iray to actually render a full image before it stops.  So far it has stopped rendering with the image still badly fragmented and unfinished.  It has some interesting lighting effects though, so if I can break the code of getting it to actually FINISH an image I think it will be pretty awesome...

  • KhoryKhory Posts: 3,854

Couple of things can increase the length of the render. Go to the render setting tab, then the progressive rendering settings (under editor) and look at "Max Samples". That can be increased so that it will do more samples and continue to improve the render longer. You can also increase the "Max Time". That will increase how long it renders in seconds. When I know I need to render longer I stick a 1 at the beginning of both of those. I also increase the "Rendering Converged Ratio" to 99.0% (not 100 as Iray does not believe there is such a thing and it wigs out) and the "Render Quality" to 2.

The secret of writing is...keep writing.  Keep working at it.  Keep trying to do it.  Never let yourself stop.

And if you aren't good enough, practice and get better.  Every writer started not being good enough.  With practice, every writer gets better.  ;)

    Rendered in 3Delight.

Characters used are Jack and one that has not been seen on this thread before.  Julie.

Jack has been out and about for a long time.  Flying places.  Doing things.  Important things.  Really.  He's fought aliens and humans.  He's uncovered ancient secrets long forgotten and flown into the face of entire fleets of enemy starships.  He is a man of iron grit and grim determination.  But now he's facing the one thing that scares him spitless.  An old girlfriend that got away.

Julie has been busy over the last twenty years.  She's a businesswoman.  A singer.  A performer.  She's played on hundreds of worlds for soldiers from every nation of the Alliance.  In the words of the immortal Bob Hope, she's spent two decades showing those boys and girls what they're fighting for.  Now one of them is standing in front of her, an old boyfriend that got away.

    Go on...Kiss the Girl...

Looks good. White is such a PIA to work with I always try and avoid it. Sometimes you can avoid the burn out on it with a little addion of a very light bluegray in the diffuse channel. Blue makes us think that a white is brighter than it is for some reason. Love the story on this one.

I've never worked with diffuse channels and the like.  Still a render newbie, but I was happy with this piece.  It was done for a contest where that kitchen was one of the requirements to use.

One of the things I like is that you don't see her face.  All you see is enough to see the hint of a smile...with the hair obscuring the rest.  I've been working on getting that character right for a while, so when the contest came up I wanted to show her off.  It is amusing to me that so little of her is visible...;)

Young Jack took some girl friends out on a little trip in search of...things they probably shouldn't have been looking for.

Pretty soon they found themselves in a sticky situation.

And then statements like "I'm going to be sick," "What where you thinking," and "How did you do that" began to get thrown around.

Poor, young, innocent Jack was in way over his head.  All he could think to say was...

    "It's not my fault!"

Rendered in 3Delight for a contest where they wanted me to use the Iray version of the Car Ranger.  I also tried multiple Iray renders but I think my machine isn't powerful enough for that.  It never was able to finish the renders.  So I ran a render with just the vehicle and thought it was beautiful.  Just an amazing look at a vehicle forgotten and...

    "Left Behind."

    ;)

Cute story! Iray doesn't really care about your computer other than the type of graphics card. I started Iray with a really aged computer (7 years old at the time) and have had to pull it back out twice due to repairs on the newer one. It is more about adjusting a few settings so that the render will run long enough. And with iray more light sources tend to speed things up rather than slow it down like 3dl does.

  • Medron PrydeMedron Pryde Posts: 304

Oh...MORE light sources...interesting...I'm used to keeping the numbers down in 3dl.

I've worked with the settings.  Sample size.  Length in seconds.  And a couple others further down to 2 and 99%.

They certainly made an improvement.  The car was done with those settings and looks pretty good.  When I tried to render with the kids in it, it spent 10 hours rendering a mosaic...:(

Do you know of any good light sets designed for Iray?  Maybe if I had better lights it might work better for me...

Today we celebrate our Independence Day.

Today we remember the Founding Fathers who risked everything to give us a future worth living in.

Today we cook hot dogs on fires.  We drink beer.  We set off fireworks.  We celebrate our freedom.

Today we should all remember to drink responsibly.  Don't hold the fireworks in your hands.  And never be the bravest fool on the street.

    And so I finally say...

On behalf of the people of America...

    Happy Fourth of July.

I like being able to see how the author envisions the characters or a story.  Its interesting. Sometimes, its very close to what I see in my head and sometimes not anywhere near lol.
