Philemo - I am very interested that you have found a way to access the dynamic hair data, I am not aware of anyone else who has done that! This would be of great interest to users of Octane Render for Carrara, as hair is one of the big missing pieces. Also, Octane now has a special hair primitive type which I believe uses simple 2-point polys for each segment (ie. no volume as such) to define the hairs, with the volume being added at render time.

I wonder if you could either:
    - look to produce a plugin which would export Carrara Hair as 2-point polys for use in Octane; or
    - speak to Sighman, the developer of Octane Render for Carrara, about how he can access this data and then use it directly in the Octane plugin.

Thank you for your consideration of these - it would make a large number of people very happy if this were cracked!

    Hi PhilW,

    It's a good idea.

I'll PM Sighman to see whether he's inerested in it.
I can also post the code in the SDK forum (if anybody wants to pick on it).

That's great - I am sure he will be interested!

The code is posted here and the PM is sent

In attachment, a test render from Carrara and Mitsuba.
Hair thickness and shading do not match exactly, but you can see the geometry is there.

I'm impressed - even the fireflies are in the same positions!! And thanks for picking up on my suggestion, it gives me hope for integrating Carrara hair into Octane.

:-) You could. It's the same image saved twice. I know no better way to have a perfect match. ;-)
I've edited the previous post with the original Carrara render

That makes more sense! Still a good match, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Sighman will be able to use this.
