What? Blender is free but there is also poseray as a free alternative... I'm sure there are others as well.
Poseray doesn't work with dff files.
...there is a cost to Blender as learning it is like free climbing El Capitan in a blizzard.
There is a learning curve to all 3D software, especially modeling programs, so we can't blame that only on Blender, and it really isn't that hard to work with once you start getting the hang of it!
...I find Hexagon to be a lot easier to work with as its UI doesn't have a steep learning curve of it's own like Blender's does and it is stirctly a dedicated modeller without all the other bells and whistles of a "full featured" app..
Unfortunately Hex is very limited in what formats one can import, and .dff is one it doesn't handle.

Why not just use Blender as an import/export intermediary and stick with your preferred modelling app? Also, if you're looking for an app that is (relatively) easy to work with I'd recommend checking out Modo Indie. It has a streamlined workflow that, once you learn it, lets you just model without getting bogged down in menus like in Maya and Blender. It also has falloffs, workplanes, action centers, and profiles which are mostly unique to Modo and extremely powerful.

299$ for a perpetual Modo Indie licence (not into software by subscription) is far more than I could afford.
I completely understand and agree with you on Blender's UI, but in it's defense they recently implemented custom pie menus that made it a much more pleasant experience when I tried it out a bit. Although I also had a look at Hexagon's manual recently and I have to say I was impressed by the progress it's made in the years since I'd looked at it last. If they only had an API for plugins I'd consider switching myself.

This was a commissioned piece I just finished for a client for her Husband. She wanted a very patriotic Red-White and Blue "American" theme with mountains in the background and Old Glory and an American Eagle as the main focus, along with a Chevy car (her husband loves Chevy).
