But they secretly make Cow Porn anyhow, so it's all the same...

For future reference, in case it matters to you...

Some might find the thought and mention of that absolutely disgusting and offensive.

But then again, being offended has always been more important here than being offensive.

    Really?

    Who?

    Nobody here, I trust!

They're probably just jealous because their Cow Porn isn't as good as they wish it were.  It's OK, we're not all perverted enough to make really good Cow Porn.  Even with Dedicated Cow Porn Software made especially for that purpose like Cowrarra.

Speaking of Fractal Generators, did everybody know that Mandelbulb3D can use Z-Buffer Images  (called Depth Pass in Cowrarra) for a HeightMap Injection?

    Fun stuff!

It does better with 16 Bit Images, so I guess that will be my feature request for C9.

Wait a minute! I think I see- Never mind. It's still TOS compliant. ;-)

On the plus side, I get my Jersey steer back on Wednesday. He left and went to pieces, but he's coming home to a caring and loving freezer!

Yup The trick is to walk right up to "The Line" and jump up and down on it - but not cross it!

    Tricky sometimes...

Good thing cows are kinky and enjoy being eaten!

We have two going to the, Great Pasture in the Sky, on Monday morning. Well actually they will be going to the, Big Chest Freezer in the Garage.... Well half of one. The other halves will be going to other freezers in other garages. ;-)

we we have a big chest freezer in my suburb but  it's hard to find volunteers to fill it...

Evil ! Did you say that about the volunteers? That's terrible!

How about an infinite number of Thumbs Up from good old Fractalforums custom smileys?

And Evil's comment reminds me of a monster talking to a victim in the Great Comic Book "Stig's Inferno" when Stig complained that he didn't want to be eaten because he wouldn't like it.  The monster was confused and asked "Don't like to be eaten?  Why not?  People like to be drunk!"

I actually think of the, Restaurant at the End of the Universe, when they order steaks and the steer/cow comes out to ask them what cuts they would like.

There will be some people that maybe are a little put off by my discussion, and that is okay. Just remember this: Before the animals that I eat are butchered, be it beef, chickens, ducks or geese, they are not treated cruelly and live their lives without undo fear or anxiety. T-Bone the steer, would in fact come running, and kicking up his feet when he saw me with the grain bucket, or if I was out doing some task in the pasture. He liked having his ears scratched and his chin. When it was time to do the "deed" I hired a company to come out and slaughter him on-sight, instead of loading him in a trailer, which would have terrified him. His suffering was only a few seconds, but his happy life was two years.

    I get stuck here

it takes an hour and downloads all the github stuff but then that error and I have utterly no geek knowledge, can only follow steps by others

Many people forget that The Arcturian Mega Cow that Evil is talking about was played (in the TV version of The Guide) by Peter Davison.  Just an odd Dr. Who bit of trivia that crosses over with Hitchhiker's Guide.

Wendy - I gave up on trying the home version until I have time for it.  I was content with this site - https://dreamscopeapp.com/ ; Beats that other one by a mile!  No week long cue, less than a minute a pic.  Resolution is limited but goes up a little wit h free registration.  Still, good enough for me for now.  Maybe you'll like it too...

Since the topic has OT in the title, anything that is OT by definition can't be OT... wink

Has EP tried to get his scene into the store? If so, he has my sympathies. I've been trying to get mine in there for months now, it's beyond frustrating. I even have a DS version for all the good it's done (pretty darn good DS version if I say it myself. Lots of stuff uses DS instances, which is the nearest Studio gets to a replicator. Not as dense as Carrara, but it's up there. No poser version, cos I don't think it could hack it, and I don't have 64-bit Poser Pro anyhow. This needs 64 bit. And now that some kind sould has sorted out my drivers so iRay recognises the Nvidia card in my iMac, I can do iRay renders in hours instead of days - I've got a render running at the mo, I'll post it ot my gallery when it's done) You know, sometimes I wonder that the store has any products in it at all.

    Ahem.

I didn't even get the scene itself submitted. I just sent them promo images. One of the critiques was the trees, which I think is was a fair one, so I've been playing around with that. The other one, which was more vague was they felt that some of the textures didn't hold up with closer camera angles, but didn't tell me which ones. Rocks? Trees? I spent a lot of time on the outcrop shaders. They are hybrid texture map and procedural, driven by terrain distribution maps to create a wet look where water washes against them.

The idea was to have a scene somewhat more simple and easier on the resources than a HowieFarkes scene. His scenes are awesome and incredibly detailed. He makes great use of replicators, but they aren't that modular in how he sets them up- meaning for example that in a scene with a replicator for background trees, if you make them invisible, all the background trees are invisible. My idea was to set up my replicators with background trees in quadrants, so that if your camera is not pointing at a part of the scene with background trees, you could toggle off their visibility, and keep only the replicators you want visible.

I've had the Dells scene on hold for awhile now, and I am contemplating releasing it to the community on ShareCG and chalking it up as a learning experience. There are some weaknesses to it that I want to correct that I should have had in mind when building it, and retrofitting it will be more work than I care to do. There's another scene I've been playing around and experimenting with that I hope to release as a saleable product that incorporates my ideas (if they work).

I had procedural shaders early on, but moved away from them when I started the Studio version - having as much commonality as possible seemed a much better way, especially when I had over 100 shaders. The pond surface is really the only holdout, and that's just different in every version. The Carrara scene now uses an ocean primitive, and the 3DL shader has a rather nice (IMHO) procedural displacement shader on a simple plane. Then along came iRay, and it really doesn't like procedural displacement, so I ended up creating an extra prop specifically for iRay - an exported obj version of the ocean! Looks pretty good too.

But the comments that come back from Daz are frustratingly vague, and they ignore any request for clarification; don't even acknowledge the email. "the wall texture is blurry" (over 5 or 6 renders there were at least 8 different wall surfaces, all based on the same pin-sharp 4096 px texture map, and the only blurring I could see was a wall that was nearly 200ft away, and that was simply due to distance from the camera) "Does the artist realise that Studio supports instances" was another one. I mean, duh!

All my veg is zoned & typed. There are pretty clear blocks in the scene, so it's not too hard. Bit more difficult in DS, because you can't hide master objects without hiding all the replications too. So you either end up with blocks containing fewer tree types that can all be turned off, or more tree types, but some will always be left because you're sharing the master tree across all the blocks.

And that extra BS is why, whatever (if anything) I do, will be Carrara only.

Things appear to be moving. Watch this space, as they say (or possibly a different space). Anyone have any tips for "productifying" a Carrara set?

Maybe try Dart, Phil or Ringo. Mmior may also have some good ideas.

Not rich just prioritised my computer over other needed things like getting working taps on my hand basin or my broken teeth fixed
