Your installer, is it from the internet ?

Yes, it was downloaded straight from my Product Library from the Daz website, so I assume it's the latest and most up to date version. I wasn't aware Daz even released a disc version.

    HI

Could you please try opening this test scene,.

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7907045/Soft_Aura_Test.car

It includes rigid and softbody physics and an animated Aura effect.

You'll need to simulate the physics, which could take a minute or so, depending on your system.

Let me know if it crashes Carrara,.. or it works.

If you're using Physics in a scene, you need to think about the gemetry of th objects andd set upl the material effects (density, bounce, friction) for each object,

You also need to change the animation mode for the simulated objects from the default "Key-frame" to "Physics"

Using a Plane (Primitive) wil not produce a softbody simulation, as there is not enough geometry, a plane is a Quad,.. or two triangles.

Using physics on some objects with high polygon count can easily produce a "hang" while carrara attempts to calculate the objects.

The "Aura" and some other effects which have a small Preview area to allow you to set the effect, can cause a "hang" while carrara loads and renders your entire scene from the camera view and applies the selected effect. this can take a few seconds or several minutes, in which rime carrara is still working but visibly it seems to be doing nothing.

The aura also needs to be enabled, or activated by using a shader which has a "glow" setting.

Using Genesis and Smart content in carrara isn't as slick as using Daz Studio,. primarilly because Carrara wasn't originally designed to have a database supply the content to the browser,. that's a function which has been added to carrara, and it's still much slower and less responsive than in DS which was built to work with a database.

Take a little bit more time to let things settle down in the browser view before selecting an item to load, or after selecting a figure in the scene, and whenever you're not specifically loading content,. switch away from the "Browser" to the "Sequencer"

Here's some pages of info which may also help,
