Interesting....
It appears that there are just under 300 "Carrara and compatible products" listed in this sale. And the total number of products in the DAZ store is a little over 17,000.
So 300 out of 17,000 represents about 1.7%
And only about 30 or so of those products (approx. 10%) are priced above $10, with most priced around $5 or less.
I imagine they're testing the waters to see how much Carrara demand there "really" is -- so it's time to put your money where your mouth is, folks
You may be right. Though I'm kinda scratching my head trying to figure why they'd discount their stuff over 60%. Most of the discounts are at 66%. That seems more like giving it away than merely discounting to increase short term revenues. I dunno. Maybe they're just saying "well, if you guys want a modest amount of Carrara development, then you'll have to fund it yourselves thru store sales at super discounted prices".
As an example, let's say in a normal week that, say, customers buy 100 units of Carrara compatible content, and an average price of, say, $10 per item, that's a total revenue of $1,000.
Now, at a 60% discount, each item is more like $4. Which means you'd need to sell 250 units, not 100, just to break even with the same revenues you started with (eg, $1,000). And at that discounted price the only thing you learn about demand is how many people will pay heavily discounted prices, not the normal prices. And at an average price of around $4 you need to sell a TON of units just to make a reasonable amount of revenue. Like 2,500 units just to get a revenue of $10,000. And some of that goes to the PA's and other expenses. Hardly enough to do much development, IMO.
Can't comprehend the logic of Daz . . . but grabbed a few items from the sale. Off to enjoy.
Hopefully, hopefully, they have not forgotten us.
Can the calculation attempt be moved from here and merged with the other calculation attempts? I thought Joe said that he understood the marginal calculation when Hjake said
"But maybe my point got buried in my LONG speculation. The summary point I was trying to make is that Daz knows Carrara is worth spending on, but it is not worth spending much upon, so they out sourced (although it may have always been out sourced to the fellows in France, but are spending much less on it) and so it will be ready when its ready (very low priority)." http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/876425/#Comment_876425
Otherwise have to copy and paste a whole lot of the same discussion. There are Carrara-related sales of items that are designed to use in Poser and Studio. Someone recently started a thread to demonstrate that Carrara users buy content that isn't just labeled for Carrara. Absent that recent demonstration, someone might be expected to make the mistake that only 1.7% of store items are related to Carrara, and then make a similar mistake trying to do a back of the envelope calculation based solely on Carrara-only items, ignoring the Poser and Studio compatible conent that we buy even when we don' use Poser or Studio. So rather than rehash all of that, maybe this thread can remain about the sale of Carrara-related items and Carrara PAs - but the attempt to make the thread about future Daz development of Carrara can be merged with a more closely related thread (there are still two such threads on the first page of the forum).
The store curently has a sale on several items reated to V3 and A3 in fastgrab.
Are there any officially Carrara-related sale items that surprise you? I had no idea that Dartanbeck had released an animation set for the dragon 2. It is officially for Poser/Studio, but also includes some optimizations for Carrara. The selection of dynamic hair is also larger than I was aware of. Are there any other items that surprised anyone?
no - same old stuff - nothing new
I'm happy, as many items were in my wishlist which I had forgotten about to be honest. Now I have some tools, etc that I have wanted to use for quite some time.
Thanks PA's.... am glad for the opportunity to support your work, especially when I can afford it!

There were certainly some things that surprised me in the sense of "Oh I thought I already had that".
Nice! Thanks for pointing this out - I would never have noticed it since the five million DAZ promotions emails I get a week all get filtered into a folder and I just glance at it and delete them all every couple weeks, and just picked up a ton of stuff that had been in my wishlist for ages. You can never have too many HDRIs. :)
As far as surprises: I didn't know @magaremoto had a DAZ store page because none of it ever came up when I searched for Carrara products before. There were also a lot of dynamic hair products I had never seen before - thanks to jonstark's videos I can make basic styles myself now, but I can never get the shaders right so it's nice to get some more preset ones.
The stuff in Ringo's store seems to still have the 60% discount from that flash sale some days ago, and it is combining with this new sale to give 87% discounts. Someone might want to fix that.
I want to see the 65% on "other products compatible with Carrara." Isn't just about everything in the store compatible with Carrara?
+1
There are a few scenes I've wanted but are only available in Carrara. Every time I look at them, I'm bummed, since there are no comparables in DAZ. I'm really considering picking up Carrara, along with the scenes I've been yearning for. I just have to put the squeeze on my pocketbook.
They should really have a test-drive option for Carrara. I'm curious about the program, but not really sure what it does and how it differs from Daz Studio. Would I have to learn a whole different interface? Will it work on my system? Play nice with my current Daz Content? Render faster or slower? They need a 30-day trial system before I'll buy it...even on sale.
you could buy it - if you don't like it return it for refund
get 30 days
$65 - that's just 2 full price Stonemasons, or 3 on "new discount" . . .
And you get 30 days to take it back.
This is fixed now TY for the HU
Is Carrara even 64-bit? The Pro version indicates it is, but not the standard version.
Pro version is 64 Bit. When purchased you have the option of installing 32 or 64 bit version.
The difference between the versions is controlled by the software key.
Thank You!
I've been looking at these Carrara Environments and they look like perfect background makers, but I have a question. Can these Carrara files work in DAZ studio, or do I absolutely need Carrara to use them?

What I'm asking is if I buy something like this and only have the most recent version of Daz, will I be able to open this in Daz, or do I NEED the Carrara program to use any Carrarra-related items like this?
If it says that it is for Carrara then it will only work in Carrara. There are a few in the list that do have a DS version but the one you link does only contain a .car file.
supported lol
loot -
got scared the sale would end before i checked out. grabbed the loot and ran
hoping the skies sets are helpful to 8.5
You will need Carrara. (Won't open in Studio. Studio lacks support of a lot of things used in Carrara environment scenes.)
Wish I could.
Apparently there's nothing I hadn't bought long before: the leaves and the christmas thingy by Howie aren't anything I'll use in any fore-seeable future. No Mike Moir, Dartanbeck, Larsen, Tim Payne, DimensionTheory. The fantasy village by PhilW is of no interest to me. How many of Ringo's shader for Gen5 or Gen6 you need: have one, apply it to every other incarnation of a figure: at least we're used to adjust shaders. There's not one plugin in this sale for me, because I checked "Hide items I own".
What I want to emphasize: except for the aforementioned exceptions I already bought everything from Howie, Mike, Dartanbeck, Larsen, Tim, DimensionTheory, Ringo, Inagoni, Fenric etc. etc. And I encourage every Carrara user to do the same, but I would like to see something new to buy. I'm simply lost there trying to buy something Carrara-specific which I don't already own. This is for me more an obstacle than anything else.
And why the f... I get an avatar which looks like a stoned version of some voodoo-doll I got for free on RDNA some years ago? Samhain into DAZ :)
i see it as a basketball with horse shoes
can you export as fbx, obj, or other file format?

My interest is to export into Iclone 6.
Is anybody using this? If so, how useful is it? Does it save you a lot of time?
