I want to see the 65% on "other products compatible with Carrara."  Isn't just about everything in the store compatible with Carrara?

I guess it depends upon your definition of "compatible". In many or most cases, I think it's safe to say (correct me if I'm wrong) that shaders that were designed for D|S will need some tweaking when used in Carrara. Generally, the highlight and shininess needs to be re-set in Carrara, and Bump values often get zeroed when brought into Carrara. And with content with lots of shaders that can be a huge effort. I believe you can also buy a plugin to help with doing a global change of some shader values.

She did say "almost everything"   Shaders always need tweaking from one program to the other. whether it's poser to DS or DS to Carrara, or any of those to Bryce.

  • JoeMamma2000JoeMamma2000 Posts: 2,615

And that's fine. If your definition of "compatible" is "I don't care that I always have to tweak shaders, even on huge scenes like a Stonemason city or whatever", then yes it's compatible. But if you expect "compatible" to be "I can drag and drop it into my scene and hit 'Render"", then nothing that is designed solely for D|S is compatible with Carrara.

    Or am I missing something?

doesn't justify the expense without the ca shaders.

Taozen, if you are doing animation, this is one of the most useful plugins there is. It might take a little time to get the hang of it. Here is a tutorial I did outlining one of its endless uses.

Do the following have height and/or image maps that can be accesed and exported to PS.

The file types are indicated to be raw, pgm or vue files .

    http://www.daz3d.com/scenic-road-for-vue-carrara-and-bryce

My interest is to export into Iclone 6.

.raw is an image file format.  If you have Photoshop you can open it in there and resave it in any format you want.  There are also free converters available to convert .raw to. jpg.  Or if you have Carrara you can import the .raw in the terrain editor and then promptly export it as a .bmp.  BTW that's not a guess, I have the volcanoes one and I just tried the Photoshop and Carrara routes and both worked - although I don't have iclone to test the result in.

Nice tutorial! Think I'll give the plugin a try. Thanks!

  • I am looking at some of the props for Carrara in the sale.

    They are *.car file types.

Will these export from Carrara as FBX competently, or are there some things I need to be aware.?

The fbx export function does seem available to use when I select the entire *.car prop.

    .

Thanks for the head up. Bought a few items, mostly environment/ nature/ outdoor stuff.

Been focused on the writing part of my creative process. Gives me a better perspective on where technical pre-production stuff lies in the spectrum of things and priorities...and how TIME is the most precious commodity.

Basically, just because modelers like myself can create lots of stuff from scratch or advanced user know how to procedurally create awesome CG scenes doesn't mean we won't pay for good content. Artists buy from other artists all the time, painters musicians or filmmakers. My point...Daz3D and vendors shouldn't presume just because Carrarists tend to be DIY artists and that means they won't buy content. We do, we are just choosier than the typical Daz Studio users and production/animation specific

Carrara seriously NEED NEW PLUGINS and UTILITIES to make workflow more efficient. Need a new thread: NEW PLUGINS WANTED. Some veterans here feel free to start one? :)

    Cheers...

Thanks for the sales so far - and as TangoAlpha has noted, there is a new Carrara hair available which can be used on ANY generation of figure, and also comes ready to animate too.  Some instructions are included for this.  Some of you might want to check back tomorrow too...

Really nice hair... will grab it today as it will suit my prehistoric people just fine... wished it had been out yesterday when I had a cart-ful!

    kiss SileneUK

ETA:  OK will this hair be on sale tomorrow, too? Do you have other things coming out tomorrow?  Will wait if you do.

Not sure how much I should say - but if you don't have Octane for Carrara, tomorrow's product will have no use for you.  I think the hair will be on sale for a few days, not sure exactly how long, that is down to DAZ.

Nice, Phil!  Glad to see this, I like the approach  :)  But why oh why wouldn't they let you put a small gif or maybe a link to a youtube video on the product page?  I know it mentions in the text description that the hair is ready to animate, but even a small video displaying the natural way it animates would be a great idea to really show one of this hairstyles big selling points.  From the test animation you posted earlier, I know this hair looks great in dynamic movement, but I'm thinking more casual browsers of the store might miss out on understanding one of this hairstyles greatest strengths.  If Daz will allow you to add some sort of video link to the product page, or even better some sort of gif that automatically shows a small animation (I'm sure I've seen them on other products here in the Daz store) I would suggest at least a quick animation, showing the hair in movement, maybe on several different figures to demonstrate why this hair is so useful, so the casual buyer immediately 'gets' it  :)

Oh and currently under the 'Compatible Figures' section it's set to 'No', which is not only incorrect, but means that someone searching the store by a specific figure type for hairstyles won't ever find it (I think).  There should be a whole heaping bunch of figures listed here, everything you can ;think of  :)  to show it can be used on any figure/character.

As for shopping the big sale, sadly I already bought most of the stuff in this category, but was able to pick up a few odds and ends I didn' thave yet, so thanks for the heads up on the sale.

Thanks for the suggestions, Jon, I have asked for the product page to be amended.

That's what I was waiting for. Animatable dynamic hair. Works fine too.

The Carrara sale not only made my day, it showed up on my fat payday.  What better timing.

Of course, the damage to my account is a little extensive, but I can say I got ERC, a plug I've been sitting on until it went on sale, along with World Gardens Japan.  That's only the start, though...

The product I alluded to is now availbale - Octane Hair Shaders for Carrara. These can be used on any Carrara hair for great results in Octane Render for Carrara, instructions for use included.  They are all based on Mix materials to give both shine and translucency, individually tailored to each shade, with colors sampled from photos of real hair to give a realsitic mix of tones.

That's fine, it will still be there if and when you do! I knew when I did it that it would have a much more restricted market.

Excellent!  In contrast to chickenman, I'm more interested in the Octane shaders than the hair style, but will be grabbing them both.  Those hair shaders look great Phil  :)
