Great render! But I think you overdid it a bit with the filter, in my subjective opinion. And I would go for film grain rather than oil painting.
Thank you. The filter applied was a pencil filter. It was first rendered in black and white, followed by the application of the pencil filter in GIMP. I am quite new to using GIMP, having previously used Photoshop."
I figured I should render a couple new, for me, items. Picked this up with the Pot-of-gold $50 off deal, Death 9 HD | Daz 3D, and Death 9 HD Apocalypse Add-On | Daz 3D. Apocalypse lightly applied. I uploaded before and after.
joanna Thanks for sharing that quote and the book recommendation! I totally do like "dark fairy tales for adults with little romance and a happy ending" - I've put the book on hold in my library and borrowed another one of hers for some holiday reading! One of the first story collections I got my hands on for 'dark fairy tales' was Angela Carter's "The Bloody Chamber and other stories". Very atmospheric and evocative.
AgitatedRiot That's a great render! Love the BW, and all the bokeh and textures of skin, clothing and fur.
daveso Definitely an uncomfortable eeriness to her in your 'after'... Nice postwork.
Early on I did a princess render for this thread which inspired a visual story "Love Great and Small" (aka The Princess and the Giant). I put up parts 1 and 2 before, but I've been slow in getting part 3 out amid distractions and time constraints. I have to thank FirstBastion for giving me the push to get to it sooner than later!
It's just something light and sweet. Hope it's enjoyable! Here are the previous part 1 and part 2. Part 3 is about 12 renders, so it's up as a sequence in the gallery again.
I've been amassing stuff for this little series since last October, clothes, pose sets, environments, props... From the little I remember, stuff from last month includes various dog pose packs from the Lunar New Year sale. Stuff from the March Madness sale includes various Zeddicuss packs. I got a lot of those to add to my already crazy Zeddicuss stash and they so come in handy!
I've sat on buying Smoking Room 2020 since, well, probably 2020. Picked it up for very cheap recently. Seems nice! Could be useful for some historic-themed renders. I'll have to search my library for cigars, ashtrays, and ferns.
A bit of a tweak in this one, courtesy of the Geometry Editor, to swap out the generic painting over the fireplace for the historically correct Norman Wilkinson version.
I love the male head shape! It's giving low-key anime, like he could be a companion to a Rarestone character.
Thanks! I am particularly happy with how he came out here. He is based on a source image that is one of the major characters of a story I am working on and is evolving as I test recently acquired new stuff. For this shot, I had just added the Head Shapes Vol 2 Masculine to a character that had started as a Face Transfer 2 character, with FT2 correctives dialed in; then I did some dial-spinning with Shapes Randomizer for G9; then added a nice dash of the Head Shapes Vol 2 that I just picked up on Sunday:
This is him after bumping up FT2 Young:
And before Head Shapes Vol 2:
Not that I don't love the old stuff, but I love testing new stuff ...
I'm glad everyone's keeping the thread alive! I haven't been commenting much, but I love coming in here and seeing all the new renders. (And adding stuff to my wishlist as a result.) Keep posting, please!
Here's my contribution. (Crossposted from Daz+ forum)
I can see why. He has so much personality! I usually don't buy G8/1 anymore with 9 being so prominent, but I couldn't resist him. Here's hoping for Wolfgang 9 and that he'll be such an interesting character as well!

Bought Dark Guard a few days ago. Here he's mixed with Alistair, which is an idea I stole from James47.
I have to say I'm disappointed that Dark Guard's texture has visible seams (I copy-stamped it out in post). Not what I was expecting from a character that looks pretty high quality at first sight. I'll probably still keep him, because he's otherwise great... but part of me thinks I should return him out of principle.
This is https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-xyz-natural-beauty-hair-for-genesis-9 and I can't remember what outfit the top came from (and I changed the color.) The hair is beautiful but almost impossible to control because the bangs react with the wind and often come out weird. It only looks good with very little wind. The new shaders are nice but lack of control over strand based hair is a problem. I still prefer transmapped hair (when done right like by Linday.)
Hylas, thank you and back at you: awesome portrait. Too bad about the textures, though. The character looked very appealing.
Thanks! Decided to return him after all. I'm spending too much, I have a few similar characters already, and that texture really isn't acceptable. Pity.

Too bad, but I understand. With the prices going up and discounts not always crazy high anymore, the expectation of high quality products rises. One can easily justify throwing $1-2 toward an imperfect character or prop. When the price starts being $5 and up, things like that become deciding factors.
I had him on my wishlist for a while, took him off (trying not to get too many more G8's since they're slowly going away), and was considering wishlisting him again... until you mentioned the textures, so thank you for that too.
https://www.daz3d.com/iray-worlds-plus - a previous product (focused on lighting and skies) of vendor Magix 101 had really disappointed me, after which I basically wrote them off completely. After seeing many users sing their praises I decided to give them another chance. Good decision, Iray Worlds Plus is fantastic! I still don't like how this vendor handles skies and lighting - it's just not my jam, for this render I deleted the polygonal emissive skydome and applied an HDRI - but the props and presets are great. Only the ground-texture is a little low-res, which means...

The Hunter
This image was inspired by all the stuff I bought: Wolfgang, German Shepherd, Render Studio 2.0 Volumetric Plus and Render Studio 2.0 Production Scenes. The rest of the items is in the gallery.
Wolfgang was my fav 8.1 character!
I can see why. He has so much personality! I usually don't buy G8/1 anymore with 9 being so prominent, but I couldn't resist him. Here's hoping for Wolfgang 9 and that he'll be such an interesting character as well!
The set is V176 Like a Painting Vignette. When I made this scene I'd just finished reading a Falco book so I knew it had to be ancient Rome.
Awesome!

I'm loving the latest Stonemason set The Backstreets of Old Kyoto

MelanieL Love the shots. They have that crispy morning feel.
Wonderland Great portrait as well. Ugh about the bangs. I'm not very good with dForce (yet?), so I can imagine how annoying those bangs can be.
Thanks, @joanna
By the way, I love your Hunter.
Thanks! Decided to return him after all. I'm spending too much, I have a few similar characters already, and that texture really isn't acceptable. Pity.
Thank you. I already spotted a tiny mistake I overlooked, but until others notice, I'll just pretend it's not there. ;)

On Her Turf
New items used: Hinate for Genesis 9, Salvage Tech Outfit for G9, and Natural Curly Hair for G9. Gallery entry here. As a bonus, an "almost new item" used was Sci-Fi Reactor Room which I got back in January and haven't tried out yet.
Nice lighting!
Thank you! It's a mix of Render Studio 2.0 presets and heavy postwork to get the colors right and some extra rays.
Reposting from DAZ+ forum. I'm trying to render all the stuff I got this month, and I'm not even halfway through...
The Lone Survivor
New items used: Red Range Terrain, KOO Yaelle for G9, Zeeba Outfit for G9, Faber Inks, Stones HR and Materials for them. Bonus from last month, Mirage Strands for G9F. The rest of the items and the no-postwork render in the gallery (I had to add all the dust and sand in postwork, because my graphics card doesn't like VDBs much).
