  • Actually a crude filter is even easier, this will catch pretty well all Genesis 8 Female products (plus some others that have 8 in the name, such as Boots  808 for Gensis 2 Female)

    Genesis && 8 && Female

just edit the number, or replace female with male 9or remove it entirely if you want both) as needed

On the topic of DIM enhancements, some sort of dark mode would be very welcome.

    Yes. All of this!

DIM is fine if you can remember what all those badly named items actually are.
DAZ CENTRAL is so much better at showing them to you so you can choose intelligently.
The loss of CENTRAL will make me use Daz a lot less because it will be a lot harder to use it in the way I need to use it

Doesn't help much that DAZ Central was better if too few people actually used it. I found it sluggish and prone to have issues/errors, including asset installation issues.

One of the things that I liked in Daz Central in addition to the larger thumbnails was that I could click on the thumbnail and it would take me to the product page at Daz. As far as I know, you can't do that with DIM.

You can go to the readme page of the package on daz3d.com  by using the information bubble  on the line of the asset you want info om and from there to the products page, so yes, you can do that with DIM.

I was confused by this thread because it apparently refered to an announcement that I couldn't find. Then I read that the announcement was only seen by DAZ Central users.

In my early Poser and DAZ Studio years I insisted on manually installing all my content. But that was agonizingly painful. There are so many files within folders to drag and drop. There was too much potential for duplicate files, etc.

I want to use DAZ Studio to make art. I don't want to spend all my time installing or problem solving. So DIM has my vote.

I use DIM almost exclusively to install products. Once in a while I accidentally double click something in the Smart Content window to install. I do not buy things from other stores because I do not know how to install those zip files. (if someone knows and would share that info with me, I'd be thankful)

If I am looking to browse what I have, I go to my DAZ account page and use the Product Library. This gives me a view of products that I can scroll through to find what tickles my creative funny bone. Then I use the name of the item to display it in DIM. Sometimes it's already installed, sometime I need to install it. This is the most common way I've been using DAZ for years.

I don't always do that since there is more than a single way of doing things. I occasionally sort through my DAZ Studio Smart Content "All" tab to find creative ideas. Sometimes I look in my Smart Content "Available" tab to find things to use. I don't do this often because it takes a while to load everything. Also, the sort criteria has been known to not work as intended. I know it is a known issue by DAZ. I know it has not been fixed because I just tried it. :)

The one thing I do not normally do is use the store catalog to see what I own because I always find something I don't own and end up buying it. (Maybe this is why I have over 300 pages of items in my Product Library. That and being with DAZ since the early 2000's)

But you only have to point the main file folder toward the DAZ folder. The rest just follow along on their own.

Will the latest DAZ Central still work if doing a fresh install (hasn't been installed before)?

Happily, despite the warnings of imminent closure some months ago, Daz Central is still operating as normal (and long may it last).

I use Install Manager for all installs but I still find Daz Central the best way to find what I want to use when i'm creating images. It has scrollable large images, useful search, quick link to Daz Store page to read more etc. much more quick access friendly than Install manager.
