I forgot Linwelly, do you run a hi-speed NVIDIA GPU or do you follow in the steps of those courageous people like Chanteur and use the CPU for Iray?

Since last christmas I am the happy owner of a NVIDIA GTX 1060. So not the biggest and fastest around but it is very comfortable. I couldn't bring myself to use Iray much when I was still on CPU only, as I'm not the most patient person around...

I had a quicky with Morpheus and while the toon style is really not my turf this was a fun experiment.  I was surprised that the genesis ( I think it was  for Hirop 5 originally) toon stuff works, nice with him ( well its a bit glossy and I have the wear them all for g3m) still, that went well.

    Thank god its friday

Oh this is cute!  Toons aren't really my thing either but I enjoy seeing renders done with them.

Thanks a lot Sonja, yes there are a lot of options to make some cute figures or even more realistic. still lots to discover there

Now I jumpen into the cold water, decided to feed beans to my family for the rest of the month and got stonemasons streets of morocco..https://www.daz3d.com/the-streets-of-morocco

And I'm positively in love with that set.

Here is just a quick something where I used the render settings which come with the set but chose a different camera setting ( and placed my figures .. yes there is still a bit to do by yourself)

I'll need to remember that. Somehow you don't strike me as "not the most patient person", quite the other way. =)

    Great renders, as usual =)

One nitpick: there are splashes underneath the bench as well. But I guess it's a limitation of that rain product?

Lol, yes that eloped my attention, with some adjusting and postioning I could have avoided that but well there is is now :)

I started out making a concept ( well a first one) for a possible story I got in mind, just trying to get a hang of the character and the settings first ( and then I wonder if I got the long breath to go through with it.

So here is my first and central character and a rough idea of the environment. Not very finetuned render but it should be enough for this, Iray, no postwork. The character ia a mingel mangel from several g3f and some dialspinning plus  lunaskin that wnet through skinbuilder3

Yay an upcoming story from Linwelly!! Please please please =)

The render looks awesome, can't exactly make out what she's doing though? Climbing out or going in? Or *River Song voice* "spoilerzz"?

you ended up with a nice character. I love the soft hazy lighting.

Don't get too excited there is still a lot of world building and developing to do, for now there is just scratches and ideas, and there is still my king Aeric's story to tell as well ( sitting on a render for that one right now)

she is neither climbing in nor out but standing behind and leaning over to sort though those algae that are farmed there while watching some blue stuff being injected into the water, but that will get adressed in some other renders I am planning.

thanks you so much, I got to admit that I love the light as well as it is exactly what I imagined for that setting ---- big smile----

Ooh so it's more like an SF setting? Cool =)

Yes, it will be SF, which is a bit of a challenge for me on top of all as most of the things I own are fantasy with a medieval touch, but there are ways to get creative with all that...

Getting back into render mode with a work for Llola render a month challenge themed close-up.

Its not as close up as it could be but getting the focus on one thing was still an interesting thing to do. So here is what I came up

I like how the glass in the background actually seems to be more in focus than what's in the foreground.  The bottles and the mirror look pretty good, too.  Overall, a very appealing image.  :)  Was this Iray or did you manage to do that in 3Delight?

Thank you Knitting, I went to Iray straight with this one as there were some modifications in the render settings I knew would not work in 3delight, but then your question got me challenged and I loaded the sets up in 3delight and arraged them the same way... got to say the materials ... suck big time in 3delight, no bump, no displacement no normal map, it could all be made or some things are even there from the iray shader just need to be put in the right slot, so i don't really get why they made the second 3delight set but only halfa...ed. So honestly, I gave up on that challenge for now. Its completely beyond me why the glasswares the got a refraction index of 1.55 in Iray are changed to 2.5 in the 3delight setting...

I've heard that with a lot of 3Delight materials recently.  There are a few artists, like yourself, who still do a lot of renders in 3Delight and are bemoaning the slip in 3DL materials quality compared to the Iray versions.  I'm not sure why a vendor would bother if they aren't going to make the 3Delight materials as good as they can.  It seems kind of odd to make sub par materials for people who are going to return the product when they discover that a product they bought because it has 3DL materials can't use it because the materials are nowhere near as good as they should be.  I would think it would be better to take the hit in the forums for not having a 3DL version rather than have customers complain that the materials that are there are useless and return the product.  I suppose it's one of those you can't win either way situations.

I guess they are under some contraint to still make 3delight version as this was from the PC freebies and the wave might be big if they stopped the 3delight support there.  I, too, do wish that 3delight is further supported as I still think it a very powerful tool and the independance from a certain GC brand is something that always should be supported. Still right now I'm doing a lot of Iray stuff but even there I go and adjust a lot on surfaces to make it look right.

Here is some more from my concepts, so not much artistic value this time, I went further with making the algae farm to get the feeling of the place. I might need to add some other hydroculture to the other part of the place though.

Trying to keep the poly count low I made all those tanks instances and hope that they don't look too conform

its a small and quick render, no need to waste hours of rendering on that

Maybe they just cannot make it better. I've been here since 2008, and I don't really remember there ever being that many vendors ever who could make decent 3Delight materials with vanilla DS. Before Iray, most vendors were Poser specialists, so their 3Delight mats were often exactly as half-[AYEM]ed as now, to borrow Linwelly's expression =)

A lot of content vendors even today are "heard" to confess they don't even know their way around Omnifreaker's light/surface shaders that well. Not even the free UberSurface and/or UberEnvironment.

Next step for my story project. It took me some time until I found petipet 's psi barracks https://www.daz3d.com/psi-barracks to be the right thing for the living quarters. I made some small changes and might make some more as I proceed and get a clearer idea of what I want. So once again, this is concept art, iray and rather quick made in terms of render time, no postwork

now, that the vacation is ending I need to get back into the swing on commenting all thos other lovely things out there.. sorry for being so absent the last weeks

I guess that makes sense.  I know I still don't have a grasp of rendering in 3Delight yet, though getting better.  I wouldn't know the first thing about making good materials.  I admit that I would have given up long ago if it hadn't been for my success with Iray.

I love this render!  Nice tone to the whole piece and I love the flying carpet and dragon you added to the piece.  Nicely done.  The next two images are really good, too.  I like the way you setup the images and the DOF on both.

Love the sci fi barracks render.  The way your character's feet are angled is so natural and realistic.  Sometimes little things like that make a scene come alive or feel real.
