Great, just what we needed, a 24-hour catchup sale before the inevitable weekend catchup sale.
definitely Bryce and Carrara do terrains and heightmaps that are exportable
as a Carrara user I can also say not just painting but procedural generation filters for features, Bryce does that also AFAIK
there are a host of other programs which do it too Terragen, Terrain Party, World Machine to name a few
That's a pretty useful set and are props that can be used with any generation or as set decoration. Not sure what you're complaining about.
Not disagreeing with your point, though I see this complaint: It's a cheap and ancient item. I see it has some DS texture but likely needs adjustment to work with iray. Otherwise, it'd be 38 cents in previous D+ sales. It's just not a generous gift. I got https://www.daz3d.com/the-bard-outfit-textures this morning as a freebie. It was a) on my wl and b) I have the outfit. So cheers to that!
I think gamifying the store with tokens and punches has really pigeonholed the discounts they can offer this year. Tokens and punches are effectively infinite coupons if savvy customers use them right. So the pricing has to account for that possibility, which makes entry pricing much worse for everyone else. (I fell off the punch game *one day* this month and had to think very carefully if it was worth getting back on, it's so off-putting.)
Personally, I'd like to see tokens and punch cards go away altogether, and sales be based on a simple buy-in or whatever, level field for everyone.
I'd love to see the buy-in (if fhere must be one) change to something like "spend X and get Y discount on the current cart" instead of binding it up in the new releases. While I get they're trying to incentivize those, there's so rarely something new I want/need that it winds up turning me off buying anything at all. (Especially now with the introduction of the toon stuff -- which is great for those interested in it, and I'm not upset on that front, but it's not my jam.)
Here's my marketing idea: About once a month give everyone an orange banner offering a small amount, let's say $2.00 off any order of $8.00 or more and allows stacking. That would bring out all the very small spenders that get frustrated not finding deals they can afford and gives Daz at least $6.00 revenue per order they wouldn't have normally gotten.
Oh, wow - thank you! Lots of potential new toys to research Reading the history and features of Carrara, it seems familiar to this Studio user, but I also note that it appears more feature rich. Think I've some reading to do on how it and Bryce interact with Studio because, for their age, they appear to still have utility for Daz-based workflows.
And Terragen looks awesome!
...got a new Orange Banner offer for ann extra 15% off the cart but it requires a Debut item "buy in" (none of which I find interesting tonight).
DAZ’s sales method is indeed very fancy, I have never seen such a complicated discount method and it is different almost every day.
It's fun but gets tiring after a while, I want to spend more time using products instead of shopping for them.
Never invested, but in DAZ I felt the joy of buying stocks, when something I bought yesterday is cheaper today, haha...
I understand that's why there is this thread...
This seems like a good idea. If the goal behind buy-ins is to get money to the artists that are still active in the store, do those artists care much about whether that money comes from their new release or their featured store? It may bias artists with more established stores, but nothing says it can't be a buy-in from shiney news or some amount from featured stores.
That seems like a good middle ground. Then both types of buyers have a reason to participate.
Well Daz is making it very easy for me to not spend much money, so if thats the marketing tactic it's working wonders.
Another day of a free item being old (gen1) and the 2.99 being a gen3 character that I can't justify paying that for (when I got a boat load earlier this year for in the $1-$2 range)
I've got 3 products this month, one was a new release down to $4 with my $6 voucher, one was the 2.99 turtle neck jumper as it's gen8 male which is nice, and the final one was a lightning deal for less than $2 on some poses, if this continues i'll actually have some money left in my limited Render hobby budget to spend elsewhere
Coal again, Free item https://www.daz3d.com/the-spirit-of-45-pinup-poses-for-genesis-3-female-s and $2.99 https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-anime-ninja-outfit-textures. Textures for a product I don't own. Neither in my wish list. Just did a quick sort of my bank statement and since 14 December 2023 to today, I have spent over $2000.00 AU at this store. That is an average of $5.65 per day for every day since 14 December 2023. Thanks Daz3d. I think there is symmetry in, I get coal, you don't get dollars.
I am just sorry for the venders when I get banners stating "because I have purchased so many items from this vender, I get extra discount" offer. They are the ones who really miss out.
I think $2000.00 is a bit excessive in this climate of financial hardship. Especially as this is a hobby that I don't make any money from.
New day, new prezzies... both put on my WL just for this occasion. So I ended up with the Dark Fairy Gown for free, because the $ 2.99 Evil Leprechaun has no textures for private parts and was only on the WL to test the principle...
So up to now it's: Base Price around $ 21.- (or lower) = free prezzie, Base Price around $ 27.- makes it a $ 2.99 one... and it seems it works for +1 year old (at least) stuff
I continue my scientifically executed research by waiting for tomorrow's prezzies...
My free item today is not from my wishlist. I'm not gonna try and understand the system further, I'm just gonna enjoy the ride and be thankful whenever I get something I can use
Doesn't work for my wish list. I have less than $20 Daz Originals that are years old and not offered. This is Daz3D's opportunity to pass on some good will to their loyal, paying, customers. On 14 December 2025 I'll post how much I have spent at Daz3d.com in the coming 12 months. I doubt if it is anything remotely like what I have spent in the past.
I'll be back for the Daz+ freebies, that I have paid for in the subscription, but I wont be accessing the site every day like I was previoulsy.
no love again. I'm passing on all. Calendar is for V4, a unimesh fit for an item I dont have. The other holiday free looks like its for the toon rendering system/filament, which I do not use. Yeah, 15% off banner, but you need a new debut release in your cart to use it, none of which interest me in the slightest. A hard pass, again.
Some of us seem to get nothing but texture sets for things we don't own, and others get almost all selections from their wishlist. What if we were all just randomly assigned to either a "naughty"or "nice" list and our selections are based on that? Basically they put Thanos in charge of the calendar.
Maybe start a new thread reporting on all the free gifts you get and see if that's on your wish list
Whoop first time since the 6th I have something for free that is on my wishlist
Think of the ones so far from my wishlist, 2 have been textures (for stuff I own), 1 was a very old enviroment, but looked interesting so worth a free pickup, another was a gen3 pose set
And then today a character https://www.daz3d.com/cb-liliana-for-genesis-3-and-8-female outside of that it's been non wishlist, poser/gen1 stuff mainly
The 2.99 stuff has always been on my WL so far, though today is the first day ironically the product has not been cheaper than 2.99 in the last few months
My (latest) Calendar Adventures:
After 3 days in a row of WL models for paid option (all bought) & the usual Non-WL/No Thanks freebies, I skipped Wednesday through Friday, due to budget, even though the Wed. & Thurs. paid options were WL. (Daz is waaaay lower priority than my beloved puppers.) Friday I got $2 GC & Saturday a $1 GC, since I'm not into the punch card thing, as an experiment. Results?
Saturday: both Non-WL. Free was a Jacuzzi Room & the paid option was so uninteresting I can't remember what it was. I got the Jacuzzi Room because at least 1 wall was nice wood paneling or slats that would be good for backdrops. Plus, "Shield maiden, superheroine & centaur filly have a Girls' Spa Day" sounds like a cool scene.
Today: Both were Non-WL melee weapons sets. I picked the free set
I am buying today's Holidaz item, Elysianna Hair, so we shall see what that does to Monday's Calendar.
Next day, next prezzies. Again, both from my recently filled up wishlist:
Free present is Leda HD (kinda old and $ 19.95 base price) and the $ 2.99 "present" is Nature Deity Set (newer and a base price of $ 16.95), which makes it the opposite of what some people presume (older cheaper product = free, newer more expensive product = $ 2.99).
well, i figured this all out. You need to spend to save. The spend , for me, doesn't equal the savings. Its negative return, thus, no spend. Thank thank you for being spendy, again, in my case, maybe yours too, is more a slap than a thanks. Oh yeah, spend to save. By now everyine sick of my whining, but I remember different times. The new way does not make me want to buy. Perhaps if I were a higher level spender, all would be good, but I'm not. Like someone else stated, if you're someone that just buys an item once in awhile, the high sales result does not kick in. My short stint with being a Premiere member, 52 days, showed me the deal. My purchases were 80% off plus, combined with the tokens, which were easy to accumulate. I had 22 tokens for awhile. Spend $20 on a Monday or Tuesday and its an instant 8. If you're going to shop here a lot, you really need to be, at least DAZ+ , but Premiere is actually the way to fly.
Today was a good sales day for me with both Akhelloo and Nelmi at an extra 20% off with 8 tokens, 3 punches and the extra 15% off, I cleared out my wishlist for their stores at 88% off. Plus I pre-emptively purchased three Lightning Deal offers for under 50 cents a piece because they were in my wishlist and would rather have something pricier in my freebie Advent calendar in the future.
Last weekend, I filled up my wishlist with a bunch of DOs that I'd be at least mildly interested in, and for the past week, every advent offering was from my wishlist. Today, it's back to random items I have no interest in.
None of my wishlist items ever show up in the advent calendar as either 2.99 items or as freebies, with the exception of 1 time, nine days ago. But that was it, and I've been watching it every day. Also never once has any item in my wishlist shown up in lightning deals. All i get are offers for texture sets for things I don't own.
Is there a way to change my Daz marketing preferences/privacy policy? To re-opt in? I'm guessing that maybe i opted out of sharing this info in the past and now everything is completely random forever.
A couple of days ago, my $2.99 selection had a $11.95 base price (strangely enough, I didn't have to spent that much time thinking before getting the free one that day):
https://www.daz3d.com/casual-fashion-outfit-vol-2-boots-for-genesis-8-and-81-females
How many Daz Originals old enough (the most recent I had was from March 2023, at least its the most recent I remember) and under ~$30-32 do you have in your wishlist ?
Because you need lots of them to reduce the chance of the system pulling items from outside of your wishlist.
Lightning Deals is likely fully randomely chosen Daz Originals with an age threshold (I started to see Genesis 9 items in mines around a year after the release of Genesis 9, could be lower but due to the randomness, it's hard to pinpoint that threshhold better) and the only way to get 'lucky' with them is to watch them like a hawk at least when a sale is impacting lots of Daz Originals (like this past two days when most of them when highly discounted) but you can get lucky outside of these time too.
I wonder if having punch card maxed is impacting things, on top of having one's WL stocked appropriately? I've been making a daily small purchase and both my advent offers have been WL items every day. (Yesterday's freebie was one I added in Dec, I think... today's has been sitting there considerably longer. Both G8 outfits.)
...3X the Holidaz Deal items today and two are pretty much of little interest s one is strand based hair for G9 and the other is for animation,. The remaining item Alex Hair is nice but there is no mention in the description whether it's polygonal or SBH
As I read somewhere here in the forums recently, strand based hair f doesn't play very nicely when transferring to another generation (like G8) whether through conversion or manual fitting..
The 2.99 item is from my wishlist while the free one is not. This has been the case for several days now except yesterday when both the free and 2.99 item were from the wishlist.
As mentioned in another post above, I am also not a "big spender" for budget reasons. This is why I am rather "choosy" in what I buy. Still am Daz+ until for the next 8 months so I need to get the most I can out of the remaining months of my annual membership.
