GENESIS 3 Iray Smart Converter And Advanced Managers (Commercial)

V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,150

Convert, and/or customize and/or optimize in the blink of an eye ANY Genesis 3 figure for great Iray renders with this all in one smart converter and skin management tools.

Efficient, organized, simple, easy to use! Iray Smart Converter requires Daz Studio 4.8.0.59 or any version above 4.8.0.59.

Everything was conceived to achieve great skin renders and make your workflow more simple, more fluent and more comfortable.

In this product you will find one converter, which applies a new material to Genesis 3, as well as skin optimization tools. Organized folders by folders, sorted in order to have the most logical or efficient workflow, the optimization tools will allow you to adjust step by step all the key properties of skin rendering.

These optimization tools are provided in two formats in order to adapt both to beginners and advanced or professional users. For each key properties of skin rendering, you will find either smart presets - for beginners - and a friendly user interface gathering in a few buttons and dials all you need for the aspect of skin you want to customize. As user interfaces you will find :

  • Base color Manager
  • Gloss Initializer
  • Gloss Manager
  • Translucency Manager
  • Bump Manager
  • Geograft Transfer Tools

These advanced managers open an interface providing an immediate control over the group of surfaces you want to customize. You can choose via a dropdown menu at the top of each interface to work separately and/or successively on full skin, lips and nails, or skin and lips without nails, or skin only (without lips and nails), or lips only, on nails only, without leaving the interface. Each advanced interface provides to you the required dials for the given aspect you want to adjust on skin (base color, glossy look, translucency, bump...) with a real time preview of your changes using Iray preview mode. You can adjust properties settings on any surface group you want as many times as you want until you reach the effect you expected.

No more repetitive surface selection! No more long browsing of surface properties by properties to find the ones you need! Just select the figure, launch the script, and all the job is done for you. Changing skins properties has never beed that easy, efficiency and pleasant!

More in details, what can you do with Iray converter and managers?

1. Simply select Genesis 3 :

- either you want to change for a new Iray Base shader, or convert it to Iray, and open the converter which applies optimized Iray settings for the type of skin you work on,

- or if your figure is already using an Iray Uber shader based on PBR Metallicity/Roughness, and you just want to optimize it for your render, and then go to the smart management tools.

2. If you decide to use the converter : the conversion script opens a window allowing you to choose between various settings :

- Precise if you start from a Clear (Caucasian) or Dark (African) initial skin (the conversion will not be the same)

- For Clear Skins, and if your figure was already Iray Uber : Decide if you prefer to keep existing translucency maps, or use base color maps instead.

- For Clear Skins, decide if you want a more cold or more warm final skin tone. (better use cold with Daz Studio 4.8)

- For Dark Skins, you can force the base mixing to scatter transmit  if you want to in order to reach even more dark skins.

- Both for Caucasian or African skin types you will be proposed you three presets, depending on the way you want to handle the gloss. An information window will detail the behavior of each preset.

-  An automatic detection of Daz Studio version will adapt the settings to take into account the recent scattering update of the Iray render engine when necessary.

In the converter, you can test all the options and presets without closing the conversion window, but if you want to go fast, let the options as provided by default for Clear Skins and just choose Dark Skins for Dark Skins.

3. Optimize or Customize the skins.

You can use the many presets (constant or proportional to current settings), or use the smart manager. You will find Smart Presets for Base Color, Gloss Initialisation, Gloss Optimization, Translucency (Types, Colors, Strengths). Included are smart proportional presets for gloss which will increase and deacrese global gloss or key settings of them proportionally to their current values. Or you can use the Managers, which are pop up windows for practical skin groups pre-selection selections and direct access to key parameters of the key properties you work on. You will find Managers for Skin Tone (Base Color, Translucency Managers), and for Glossy look Management (Gloss initialization, Gloss Management, Bumps and Normal Map Managers)

You will finally, as a bonus find a transfer tool manager in order to be able to copy the skin settings of a figure to any geograft figure in the scene, including but not limited to "Genitalia", elements.

With Iray Smart Converter And Advanced Skin Managers For Genesis 3, you have two possibilities in one. You can simply apply the Iray converter to a figure and render, or you can use only the skin management tools to optimize and customize any of your existing figure whose skin is already based on any Iray Uber PBR Metallicity Roughness shader. And of course you can do both!

Whether you want to improve your Iray renders of Genesis 3 figures, or if you simply want to make the skin customization workflow pleasant and efficient, I hope you will find your solution here!

03/17/2016 : Currently updating :

- the names of the converter and the managers will begin by G3 instead of G2 in order to avoid any possible confusion (in the meantime, Genesis 3 is anyway written in blue on the thumbs and tips).

- the value of the SSS amount for dark skins was limited to 1 on the "dark skin" settings, while the rest of the body was set to 1.08. The update in the script is written, and soon gonna be submitted. In the meantime, please, once conversion is done using the "Dark Skin" Option, remove the SSS limit on the arms by left clicking on the wheel left of this dial, choosing "parameters settings", and unchecking "use limits", and set arms SSS amount to 1.08. Sorry about that....

I will definitely be getting this. I was playing with the Gen 2 version and the results were fabulous!

  • V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,150

    Thanks a lot Damsel!

The product has been improved since the Gen 2 version. Now the surface selection tool is not only 4 radiobuttons but a dropdown menu, and the reset are more "selective" for the reset operations: when you are on "Lips Only" for instance and you press "reset" then it will reset the lips to the initial lips values (previously in G2 version everything was reset to the torso initial values).

I hope you'll get fabulous results too with this one on G3!

Damn been waiting for this, and almost out of credit; sadly I wont be getting more for a while. I'm still annoyed with Daz, not aiming it at PAs, even though they will be affected.

Hopefully it will be released before my PC expires and I'll have enough for it.

Might be the best ones yet. Nice job.

Thanks a lot! Working with Genesis 3 with Daz Studio 4.9 is a real pleasure :)

Thanks! I hope you will be able to have it. It has gone through all the tests and it is ready for the release, so I hope this won't be too long now. But I am not informed about the date sorry.

Thanks a lot for this comment. A lot of work on this because the way various PA and Daz build their skin is not yet totally standardised for G3.

    @all : (edited)

As a general advice, I strongly recommend the use of  DS 4.9.

Of course my product has been made compatible with DS 4.8 too, with an automatic DS version detection and with automatic shaders adjustments for DS 4.8, but after many testings and optimisations, I came to the conclusion that the results reachable in 4.8 are not as good and as robust as in 4.9.

Another point if you are using DS 4.8 and you use the converter, is that you might have to use one more step (which is written in the "info" pop up of the converter) for some figures of some specific PAs - only in DS 4.8 (for Daz or some other PAs figures, this won't be required).

But honnestly the improvement in scattering management of the DS 4.9 version (4.9.0.24 and above) really makes a great difference in terms of quality, and offers much more possibilities.

I read from here and there that some people were not ready to use DS 4.9. Some of them "feared" 4.9 because they did not like the Daz Connect principle. But upgrading to DS 4.9 does not force you to use Daz Connect, it simply allows you to do that. As a user of DS 4.9, a part of the new content I buy from other PAs is installed via Daz Connect, a part of this new content is installed via the DIM depending on what I plan to do with them. Plus : using 4.9 I benefit the update of the render engine of DS 4.9, which makes such a difference that I see it more like a "patch" than like a simple update. All the renders shown here have been made with DS 4.9. (PS : I'm not paid by DAZ to promote 4.9, this is just my personal opinion lol)

Of course all my products including this one can be installed the way you want : manual install, DIM, and Daz Connect, whatever the DS version you use (well Daz Connect will be for DS 4.9 only of course).

Have a nice week end all!

Hi!  So happy to see this news!  I have been looking forward to this product:) However, I am not clear as to whether you are saying Daz Connect will be required to use it? (As you said a part of your new content is Daz Connect?)  Just wanting to get clear on this before getting too excited about it, as I don't use Daz Connect.  Thanks!  And thanks for making these skin converters, they are so helpful :)  -Cathy

I think what V3Digitimes was saying is that part of his/her personally installed content is installed with Connect, not that you will need to use it at all if you don't want to.

Nice! The product has been improved a lot since Genesis and Generation 4. All the customisations are now available not only using the smart presets but also using some interface allowing a finer tuning of the key parameters for skins.

Hi Cathy! Thanks! No you do not need daz connect, you can install my product the way you want (either manual, or DIM, or daz connect).

But you are right, my post was not clear (here is what happen when I'm tired and try to write in English). I am going to update my previous post to try and make it less confusing.

That's it, thank you daywalker03. What I meant is exactly that. For my personal use, all the products I buy from other PAs, I install them as daz connect for a part of them, DIM for another part, depending on the product. But of course my own products can be installed by both ways (plus manual install too)... I was not really clear initially, I'm going to correct this.

Thanks so much for your answer!  Sorry to have even brought it up, I admit I panicked when I thought I wouldn't be able to use this product! blush  I "follow" the skin settings thread with amazement, I find it so impressive what they are doing and what looks they create, but I don't understand MOST of what they talk about there and it's a real miracle for me that you can create something like this, so thanks!  -Cathy

You're welcome! No worry, it allowed me to correct my text which was not really clear. The skins I provide with the converters are the "best average" of all G3 skins that I own (well I buy a lot!). So the initial conversion should look good, and then the "skin managers" are made to give you a simple and "understandable" access to the main key parameters (and only them), by category (gloss, color, translucency and bump). It's not obvious to understand the skin setting thread, but I did my best in this product so that both beginners and advanced users can really get great results and customize their skins as fast, easily, and efficiently as possible. Well, just like in the Genesis 2 version, but with enhanced interfaces.

Is it possible to tell us what lights you use in your promos as I am sure the resulting look of the skin using the converter  would also depend on the lights used?

I created the skin shader to be fine with all lights, but of course I made an effort for the promo images.

On most of the promo images I also used a bit the gloss manager to adjust gloss level to the effect I wanted, as well as the bump manager to see better skin details on close ups.

Well I never use the same light, some are commercial "as is", some are commercial "modified", some are hand made. Which promo image do you think of?

    Nevermind ...

    Well..... OK.... ;)

The light on the promo of the girl with the pink hair and the portrait of the bald guy, which I also noticed the eyes look slightly red, is that the materials or the converter causing that? Also which light did you use on the darker skinned guy? Would the results be acurate just using the basic lighting that loads with DS Iray?  One more thing, can all your Iray converters be installed DIM, Manual or Connect as I noticed it was specified for the newest product?

And you are not lucky because this time, I was sick in january and had to delay a realease, this is why before the end of the week your wallet may eventually suffer again xD

Fine, I'm having a look right now. It's been a while since I made the scenes, so I don't remember everything I did.

For the girl with the pink hair, I used : JM Promo Lights For Iray : http://www.daz3d.com/jm-promo-lights-for-iray . I probably used a dynamic preset of this product, I see in my scene 3 spotlights only. I probably tweaked them a little bit, but I'm not sure. I'm using dome and scene environment mode, with a HDR map coming from the product ultra genesis studio http://www.daz3d.com/ultra-genesis-studio-vol-1-iray-box-lights (TRUGenvironment0011), map strength 0.56, environment intensity 0.25. Bloom is on at 0.1, 10000, 0.4. Exposure value is 13 (everything is default in tone mapping).

I'm gonna have a look for the bald guy and I edit this post.

Ok now for the bald man, I used JM Promo Lights For Iray : http://www.daz3d.com/jm-promo-lights-for-iray . I probably used the infinite 5 preset of this product, I'm using dome and scene environment mode, with a HDR map coming from the product ultra genesis studio http://www.daz3d.com/ultra-genesis-studio-vol-1-iray-box-lights (TRUGenvironment0011), map strength 1, environment intensity 0.25. Bloom is on at 0.1 (radius), 10000 (threshold), 0.4 (filter scale). Exposure value is 13 (everything is default in tone mapping). The eyes are slightly red because there is a lot of light coming from backwards and resulting in translucency "through" the figure's head, and I think the fact that eyes moisture map, which for this figure is really red on the back side, also has an impact. So yes this is due to material and to strong backlight. I had a look at the original Gianni figure under the same light conditions, the eye is a bit red-orange too, even more saturated than in my conditions (my saturation is 13, the original one is 20).

I'm having a look at the darker skinned guy, and I edit...

All right, for the dark skin guy, I used (once again?!) http://www.daz3d.com/jm-promo-lights-for-iray the preset Color 01 but I changed a bit the colors and intensity of the 3 spot lights. So as before, the scene is made of 3 spotlights with a dome which is this time the exact default Dome provided when you open Daz Studio. I reduced the exposure value to 12, bloom is on with radius 0.1, threshold 10000, scale 1.

That's all all the scenes use only one dome, and 3 spotlights for 2 of them, 4 or 5 for one of them.

Yes, the result will be accurate using just the basic light provided with Iray. The material has been developped to be the "best average I found" on all the G3 figures I own (I buy a lot of them), under 12 light sets (I have a content directory and my custom scripts with the 12 lights sets which I test, so that I can swap from one group to another. This includes sunlight, several domes, several spots (with areas variations), several infinite, several "other objects" configurations). This is one of the reasons why it is so long to make such a product. Please note that the results are better with 4.9 than with 4.8 due to the corrections they made in the scattering and other corrections.

Yes, normally you can install it manual, or DIM, or Daz Connect. With the early version of Daz Connect, this was not possible, as it was the case for any dse file of any PA, but this was corrected and with the new versions of Daz Connect this is possible again. By the way, previous products which could not work when installed with Daz Connect should now work without issue if installed with the new Daz Connect.

Anyway if you want to gain time, you can simply, in the content library, right click the converter, and make "create custom action". The converter (and the managers if you do so with the skin managers) will then be accessible in the top menu, in the "scripts" part (which appears in the top menus as soon as a script is set as a custom action). This is what I'm doing for most of the files I regurarly use (including lights) and this is a MAJOR gain of time.

Thank you very much for such a detailed description of your lighting!  I don't have the JM Lights yet but probably in the future, but good to know they will give accurate results just using the basic lighting. Thanks for reminding me about the custom actions as I always forget about that little trick.

I noticed that some of the filenames say G2 instead of G3. Is that just a typo, or is something wrong with my installation. I installed with Daz Connect. One example is "g2 v3dc !mgrs base color manager.dse". Or does this mean that it also works on Genesis 2 characters?
