Absolutely thrilled with this product. Thank you so much V3Digitimes. I've just bought Blacksmith 3D's Texture Transformer (from the other place) and this is the perfect companion in tweaking converted skins for G3M and G3F. Here's a character concept piece I've just finished, using SAV's Lynn for M4 skin (again from the other place). The Iray converter / manager has given it a lovely lifelike glow which I'd never have been able to achieve by myself. Really happy.

Me too! You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. I'm also really happy when I see that I helped people to reach such a nice result. Your character is amazing. And you made me feel like having a look to the transformer from "the other place", I have tons of generation 4 textures I'd like to reuse on G3.

Really great image you made here. Pose, shape, hair,  skin and cloths go really well all together! I have the impression to see someone real. Well done !

That does look fantastic. It is also a very interesting character.

Ok more and more strange, I now close and open DS, reload Dave, its torso for genitalia, then genitalia iray mats. The mismatch is still here, but not as strong as before. Can you tell me if you see a mismatch initially too? But then if I use the converter and the anatomy transfer, then I have "the same" mismatch as when I just load it. Not less but not more.

It is werid. I got a noticible line there, but tested it out a few more times and did not. It seems to be working now though.

I am having trouble with the Generation 4 converter. I installed it with Daz Connect, and it isn't working at all. I know this isn't the right thread, but I can't find a thread on Generation 4 converter. I get this in my log file:

Of course I did not have it as a Daz Connect script on my computer. I'm gonna have a look at what is happening, so far people had no issue but I don't know if they were using Daz connect or not.

Ok done. On my side, no issue with daz connect the conversion script works.

Maybe your figure was parented to something no? In this case try to unparent before applying. Please can we go on in the right topic to see what is happening?

...... .... My little finger tells me that you parented your generation 4 figure to a light... or to something which is not an object... Am I right?......

Thank you for a wonderful product!  It's so easy to make changes to skin without diving into each surface and tweaking the same dial 100 times.

We should be able to add reviews to store pages.  You would get a good one from me.

For a complex product that offers as much as this one does, reviews and comments from verified purchasers would be a huge benefit!    I didn't understand how great this one was until I could try it.

I answered in the other thread. Yes it was parented to a group.

I just noticed that when I apply Preset 1 for African skins, the Arms surface has a different SSS Amount than the rest of the skin. Arms SSS Amount is 1.00 and Use Limits is ON. The other skin surfaces have SSS Amount 1.08 and the Use Limits is OFF. Is there a reason for that, or is it an error?

Wow! I was right to wait to submit the update and wait for eventual mistakes (I was sure you would find one). This is obviously an error. I'm gonna write the update immediately!

Edit : update written. SSS limit is now set to higher than 1.08 in the function "patching" properties for dark skins.

Just had a look, it does not come from the script but from the "underlying" base material preset which is called and has SSS limits "off" for the rest of the body but not for the arms. This one is tricky!!

I have another project to test barbult. Since it is not totally finished, I was wondering if you were willing to beta test it for me and at what stage of development I could send it to you?

I just stumbled upon another very elusive problem. I loaded an old scene with a G3F and tried to run the main converter. It failed and I got an error box on the screen telling me an error occurred and I should see the log file. By process of elimination I figured out that removing text from the Iray Tag field on all eye surfaces resolved the problem. That seems bizarre, but it is repeatable. I don't know if it is a problem in the converter or in Daz Studio. I am running 4.9.1.30. This is what the log said:

    Loading script: D:/DAZ 3D/Studio/Daz Connect Data/data/cloud/1_24261/people/genesis 3/materials/iray converter and managers/g3 v3d !iray main converter.dse

Thanks for the feedback. I did not thought the tag issue. I have a special treatment to catch the maps of properties which do not inherit numeric property. I am going to exclude the "tag" property name from that. A luck that I have not submitted the patch yet!

Just wanted to say how happy I am with the advanced managers. Not only does it allow me quickly adjust settings, but it's also teaches me what those settings do. Daz is my first brush with 3D, and although I've been using it for around 10 months now I still don't know all the terminology or what things do (I just concentrate on the layout etc). Many thanks for creating this, I hope there will be more like it in the future.

I was playing around with the settings yesterday and here's my first attempt using them:

You are welcome and THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this Keeping it Neil, and for your very nice feedback. This is really a fantastic result, and I'm so happy that my tools helped you 'to see more clear' in all these parameters, and 'to make it more simple' to set up a skin! That was the goal of it. Easy, simple, efficient.

This is a really excellent work you made here...

I'm still playing with this and *still* loving it. :-)  Here's another quick test render, again using the Texture Transformer, and using JS Graphics's "Old Man" skin for M4 from The Other Place. (This is the same character as I posted before, but twenty years down the line after too much campaigning in the desert.)

Your converters are giving these older products a massive new lease of life!

Thank you so much for sharing! I'm happy to see that my converter works so good with Generation 4 (M4) textures sets, because it is basically optimised for G3 textures sets. That's cool. And the characters you create are really amazing by the way!

@V3Digitimes Or anyone that has maybe tried to do this yet.

Is there a way to use the Genesis 3 Iray Smart converter for the new UV products for Genesis 3?:
    http://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-genesis-2-male-and-michael-6

Iray Converter for Generation 4 script seems to run, but the other gives an error message, that no Genesis 3 or Genesis 2 figure selected.

I really like these converters, and got use to using them on pretty much all figures.
    The results are so good!!!

Might have to go the longer route and convert the skins first, then save them and load on Genesis 3.

Hello FusionLA, thank you for this very nice feedback :)

Concerning your question : I have not bought the product, so sadly I cannot test on it.

But indeed if you try to run the script on the geograft elements directly, it will not work.

If you absolutely want to use the Genesis 3 converter, one thing that I would try is to run the smart converter on the Genesis figure 3 itself (with the legacy UV), and then I would use the file of folder "06 Geograft transfer", named "G2 V3DC !Mgrs Transfer Anatomy", in order to copy the skin settings (not the maps, only the settings) from the torso to all geograft elements. I have some limits I had to set to the type of elements being treated, but if the geograft has a skeleton (is a figure, has bones) and is parented to Genesis 3, then it should appear in the list of the elements to which you can copy the skin settings. If it does not work, if the geograft elements do not appear in the list you can transfer, it will probably be because the geograft is not set as a figure or not parented, but this is one line to modify in my script (I think).

BUT You mentioned the longer route, and that is what I would recommend : if you have the Genesis 2 version of the converter, to use it on Genesis 2, save your material preset, and then go on with the load on Genesis 3 with the legacy UVs. The reason I recommend using the Genesis 2 converter for this case is that the material settings are optimal for the types of textures sets that DAZ and the various PAs have been using for Genesis 2. The Genesis 3 textures sets present different general characteristics, and the Genesis 3 converter is not optimal for Genesis 2 texture sets, only for the Genesis 3 ones (lol otherwise the product would not exist).

I hope this helps, just let me know :)

Thank you for the reply back!
and of course I have the Genesis 2 version of the converter, I have all the ones you created:)

I will have to try the tip for Geograft transfer for the skin settings and see if that works.
It was good to finally be able to use the previous Gen textures for Genesis 3, but your skin converters have become a go to tool for me.

  • V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,150

    Great!

You're welcome, just let me know if it does not work with the Geotransfer, I must recognised that I put so many filters in the objects which will be displayed in the list on which you can transfer (I have two full lines of conditions) that I'm not sure these geograft elements will appear. Well I can try to create and send a patch to you if it does not (I think simply have some conditions to delete).

It makes me really happy to read your feedback, I tried to make these skin tools as good and useful as possible, and when people use them often, it's a wonderfull reward for all the effort I put in them!
