How does one become a community volunteer? Just curious.
How does one become a community volunteer? Just curious.
I was asked if I'd be interested in becoming a volunteer and, after the initial shock and some debate with myself, I accepted. I'm still not sure if I'll be a good Community Volunteer, but I plan to do my best. Apparently, someone thought I'd be a good fit as one. My plan is to not let them down. I guess we'll see how things go.
Thanks, I think. Still in shock a little bit. :)
What kind of stuff do you want to do for movies? not sure what pre-viz stuff is. The movie things sounds potentially fascinating. For you, not me! I love movies, but I have no desire or aptitude to do anything in that industry! I love your sets so I could kind of see your name on some movie's credits for some type of cgi work. Not sure if that's the type of thing you're thinking about. I'm pretty sure one or two other vendors have done movie work. @Stonemason, maybe? I don't recall exactly who I read had done that sort of thing. That would be really cool if you got that going. Although, I might be a little sad if you stopped making great sets to do that.
Well I think you are a great fit lol! I highly doubt that you will let them down. You are far too hard on yourself!
I had to go to my gallery and look. I guess the last pictures I uploaded was two versions of my Toon Generations 2 - the girls. Not a bad set of test renders, but nothing that would shake things up either. Unfortunately, some of my best work here lately, I decided not to share until the product actually comes out so people will have to wait to see those. One in particular, I'm quite proud of because I think it turned out spectacularly. It's practically going to kill me not to share before the product hits the store. Oh well.
Well, thanks, Sonja. I certainly hope I don't let them down. As for being too hard on myself, that's a hard habit to break, but I'm working on it.
Ig your talking about what I think you are talking about he did say we could share wherever we liked. If its not, then just ignore me entirely lol.
I'll be happy to help. Anytime you start just come over to my house and I will straighten you out lolol!
Yeah, it's what you think I'm talking about and I know I can share, but I decided to wait. That decision will probably kill me, but I'm trying to abide by it. When I was done with the promo images, I just threw up in my WIP gallery folder that is marked private so no one can see them and then linked them over to our PM so he and the testers could see them. I was in the middle of finalizing everything I needed to do for the Raining Men contest and was just swamped so I didn't have the time to put them in a post to my thread. If you hadn't noticed, I can get a little wordy at times. ;)
I figured the big reveal could wait. Unfortunately, I make those kinds of decisions in the heat of the moment and then refuse to change my mind. Then, I get into these debates in my head trying to change my mind because I don't do the whole waiting thing really well. Ah well. I'm sure the wait won't really kill me. :)
Well, nothing wrong with sticking by your decisions. I will say the one was really very cute and looked great. haha now everyone will be dying to see it. Patience is good for the soul and all that.
Yeah, I think that is my favorite render that I've ever done so far. :)
KM, Show me a link to the hat you prefer and I'll model one up for you. :)
Well i don't want to work in house really, it means moving around a lot. I'd like to do pre-viz though (Concept art etc) for movies and games. Unfortunately, most of the offers i get tend to sound like: "Omg dude i've got this totally sweet idea! You do all the work and i'll pay you when it makes millionz!!". I've worked with so many indie teams and they never EVER stay the course. I think stefan worked with Neill Blomkamp on something, it was concept work for a film. I'm sketchy on the details but i don't think it's made it into production yet. I imagine he's done a heck of a lot more, he's been on the scene a long time. The industry is so volatile though, i couldn't tell you how many friends i've had see their jobs outsourced over-seas. Did you ever hear about Rythm 'N hues? That seems to be happening all over the place now :(
Either way, i very much doubt i'd leave daz - i have so many friends here, and it's such a great community. Besides, i'm not sure what kind of hats they offer in the movie industry, i just can't take that kind of risk. :)
Hmm, I'll have to think about that. It would have to fit on Genesis, though, because I haven't moved Jaguar Sadie up to G2 yet.
Yeah, I can understand the problem with working with Indies. Not much money there even if you manage to get it up front. Good to know you would still be making great sets. I just managed to pick up a couple of more when you were on sale last so I have to get some renders done soon. I want to try out an idea I had for the Pub set now that I have it and the rain both. I just need to find the time to set it up.
Yes, set-up time! I was just thinking about that today. I spend so long thinking of ways to bring render-time down to a few minutes, then spend an hours playing with scenes. That's the fun part though! Whereas watching noise disperse is like watching paint dry :(
Yeah, I have a lot of fun setting up renders. I like playing with all of the parts and putting things together and figuring out where everything should go. Unfortunately, it will have to wait until I'm all done testing out the new materials pack for Strangefate's armor that I've been testing out. Which I have to say is amazing! Once I'm done playing around with all of the new materials, I'll get to setting up a new render. I need to test out the new update to DS 4.9, too, at some point soon. I've downloaded it but haven't actually installed it yet.
So, I was in an actual Comic Book store today. Comics have changed a lot since I read them, but since @algovincian has gotten me so into NPR images, I find that I'm looking at comics and graphic novels a little more. I know there are a lot of DS artists that are doing their own graphic novels, too. While at the comic store, I happened to see a comic called Dark Souls. I guess it is based off of a video game. I never heard of it, but the boys said they had and my oldest has actually played the game.
The artwork on the cover really drew me in and I had to look through the issue. I must say the artwork is phenomenal. My understanding from what I read on his DA page is that the artist does traditional graphics so no digital work. Still, I picked up the issue they had, Dark Souls Winter's Spite issue 2. There were three different covers for the issue and this is the one I picked up:
The artist is Alan Quah and the writer is George Mann.
I thought it was interesting that a lot of the buildings in this issue were very similar to the types of buildings that I've gravitated toward here in the DAZ store like Castillo Del Diablo and some of the crypts and dungeons sold here. It seriously reminds me a little bit of algovincian's work, too, especially some of his more recent Iray endeavors with the trolls. :) Greg has been doing some amazing stuff lately in Iray.
While I'm amazed and awed that this was all done by hand, I would so love to try to figure out if I could emulate the style in the comic book just to see if I could. Somehow, I don't think I'm quite there yet with those abilities but maybe some day. In the meantime, I'm still playing with some NPR stuff when I'm not doing the tons of other things that keep me busy.
Hopefully, now that the contest has wrapped up a little bit, judging is still ongoing, but I'm able to breathe a little bit more now so maybe I can get a little more active in my thread again. I have a ton of images that I haven't even uploaded, I've got some models I did in blender that I still have to get into DS to render. I actually have something I made that I have to figure out how to rig. I'll try to take screenshots of that process and share when I get to it. I still haven't managed to finish the LAMH tutorial for doing an actual hair but that will be finished soon. I was testing Strangefate's new armor and I have some of those images to share but haven't really had time to do more than upload them to my hidden directory in my gallery and share them with Strangefate through PMs rather quickly. It was kind of an upload and link without a lot of talking. And, anyone who reads this thread must know by now that I like to talk. If I don't have time to write a lot, I usually try to wait until I have more time and can write a longer post.
As a comic book artist I'm tickled pink that you went to a comic book store and enjoyed looking at the art! :) It always makes me happy when people enjoy comic book art! It's a long lived art form and it's finally getting some of the respect it deserves thanks to companies like Marvel bringing comics to mainstream audiences, and introducing more people to comic book stories, comic characters, art, and traditional comic books. :)
Comic books have changed SO much since I was a kid. I didn't read very many, mostly Wonder Woman and a few Dark Shadows comics but what I saw in that comic book store was a real eye opening, especially the prices! Of course the really expensive ones were amazing books, all glossy, fancy pages with wonderful artwork good enough to frame.
hahah Yeah, the art really has taken a front seat in a lot of comics these days, with a LOT more hours put into the art than they used to. The price has to reflect that of course. ;) One of my favorite comic artists, Simone Bianchi (who is AMAZING), has been known to take nearly a year to do one comic, because pretty much each page is art gallery worthy and it takes SO LONG to paint each page. Here's some of his AWESOME work:
Comic art is my favorite. I LOVE it. I'm really hoping to somehow learn how to mix 3D art and Comic Art but make it look kind of natural, you know, not like "obvious 3D" or something. I'm hoping that I can eventually figure out how to do that. :)
@divamakeup I imagine you'll be able to do it if you keep up with the way you've been learning. I don't know how you paint in PS like you with some of your colorings/colorwork? I don't remember what it is called that you do. It floors me what you can do. You have some really great stuff on you DA page. You'll get there, I'm sure.
Dawww Thank you! :D You made my night, girl! I can't stop grinning now! :)
You made me feel hyped up and motivated to keep plugging away and learning more - off to Photoshop I go! heheh :D I was going to go to bed early but you seriously motivated me to do some more painting and experiments with some renders. I have a couple new ideas I want to try.
Thanks, KM! *hugs*
Love how 3-dimensional that cover is! And, thanks Knittingmommy, I have been enjoying playing in Iray since I got that additional box with a pascal card.
Don't have much time to write atm, but with the recent release of 4.9.3.166, I'll soon be updating my scripts (which I haven't done in a while). I've been avoiding doing so because it's boring/tedious/time-consuming work. With new versions of DS coming out so often, and the fact that older versions of the scripts still worked without issue in older versions of DS, I had decided to not waste the time. However, since this release contains support for pascal cards (major), it's worth the trouble.
I see more comic book art based on 3D renders in your future (both you and Diva). Will PM as things move forward . . .
- Greg
I watched a video last night of someone who started in Studio and then basically repainted it in photoshop. I think that may be what you are looking to do. Let me see if I can find the video.
Check this person out. It looks like (he/she? pretty sure its a he) is doing what you are attempting to learn. I already picked up a couple of really good tips from watching his stuff. Shannon Maer
Ah, I've watched a couple of his videos. Interesting stuff.
Nice comic stuff you collected there, I'm an avid reader /viewer of webcomics and when possible I go support them by buying the book, there is a lot of really good work out there, both artwise and story wise
