I'm late chiming in on this, but just wanted to emphasize what Linwelly said about throwing in a layer of color between the text and the image. I do a LOT of online graphics for memes, blog headers, and other kinds of web graphics etc, and that's one of the most basic tricks to make text more visible against graphic backgrounds. Even when the color layer is practically invisible, it helps the text stand out, and allows you to use colors that would otherwise disappear. I pulled your background image into Canva, created a quick transparent gradient in GIMP, and threw your text up against it and added a faked drop shadow. This is what it looks like with the gradient at a couple of different transparencies.

ETA: I pulled the red from the lightest red on the bra.

Character update. Thanks to the very talented @DarwinsMishap, I have finished the character for my book and his final version is ready for a photoshoot for his book cover. Thanks again, DM, for doing the cat-themed tattoo. You do amazing work and I love how it turned out. For anyone who really likes the skin I used, it is Giuseppe's skin.

I'm trying out different poses and stuff for my book cover. I haven't quite gotten there yet. I hope to have the first draft of my cover soon. I thought I would share what he looks like now. It's amazing what just a couple of tweaks and a great skin can do for a character. I changed up his hair because I found I really like how the Messy Updo looked when I did the test render of DM's Giuseppe when he came out. I customized the hair color a little bit with UHT2's color mixer. I really like how it turned out. It is amazing how just a change of skin and hair can really make or break a character.

The new render is his render without the goatee. I've got a render of him with the goatee rendering now. I was having a hard time getting the materials on the beard to play nice because UHT2 doesn't really work as well with a mesh hair as it does with modeled hair. There are distinct differences applying materials to the two different types of hair. I'll post the version with the goatee as soon as it's finished. I haven't completely decided if I'm going to keep the goatee or not. I'll compare the two images when they are done. While he has a goatee in my story, I can always write that out of the description if I find I don't like it. It isn't as crucial to the plot as his tattoo is. I hope everyone like how he turned out. So, drumroll please:

    Before (with stock G8M skin):

After (with Giuseppe's skin and a new hair):

Wow its crazy how different he looks!  I really like how he turned out with that skin.  Great job!

Thanks. I knew he would look great in Giuseppe's skin but I didn't realize he would look that great or that different. That and the hair change, I actually had to go back to my original file and reapply the skin and hair to make sure I had the right character because there was a brief second I thought I had loaded up the wrong figure. But, no, I had the right one. I love how he turned out.

Here is the version of my character with his goatee. It's not perfect and I might fiddle with the coloring some more. It doesn't look too bad though. I'm not sure if I'll keep him clean-shaven or with the beard yet.

Tough one. I like the goatee, my husband's facial hair looks very much like this so I'm a bit biased.  He sadly does not have a wicked cool cat tattoo on his chest though lolol.

I like the work you've done on the goat in the second image as compared to the version a few more posts up - doesn't look so defined. Probably has something to do with the rest of his face, too. Definitely goes better with his new skin.

Definately keep the goatee.  It makes his face more distinctive and a little more tough, and especially looks good with the hair.  Great character.

  • Wow, he looks great KM!  I agree, keep the goatee, it definitely has character building properties. :)

Agree with those above, keep the goatee. He looks really great, good work!

  • He's hot! Great character and I'm partial to men with beards. :)

  • Thank you, everyone! I guess I'm keeping the goatee. :)  I wasn't sure. I am kind of partial to beards. Love a great character with some facial hair. I have to say I'm really proud of how he turned out. I just hope I can do well with creating the cover. Though, actually, his promo image is actually pretty good. A few modifications to make room for text and this wouldn't be a bad cover either. I'll see how my first attempt at the idea I have goes before I make any decisions. I'm glad everyone approves of him. I worked really hard to get his morphs how I wanted him to look. Anyway, he's done and I'm not tweaking him anymore. I'll post any covers I come up with to get some opinions when I have them.

He does look great and what a difference between the skins and hair . Is that using the Lucas 8 character?

I think your banner would would with those 'Hollywords' font better or a silver (not grey but silver) font possibly in a Gothic or Old English (although that makes reading difficult so maybe an early 20th century newspaper type font. For you actual novel though I'm not a fan of type to read font typed directly on the image as in most cases portions of what is written are difficult to read. The image is nice although it doesn't make me think of vampires but then again the only vampires I'm familiar with are Count Chocula and similar characters. It is pretty though.

  • No, no Lucas 8 in there. He uses the Genesis 8 Male Head Morphs which I used the Randomizer to create. I went through a lot of random heads before I got one that looked even close to what I wanted. After that, I modified a few dials to fine-tune the morphs. After that, I then added a smidge of M8's head.

Oh! Thanks! I really liked the character, but noticed it required Lucas 8 and gen 8 morphs neither of which I have. Now maybe I need to add him to my wishlist. :)

Oh, I misunderstood the question. I thought you were asking about my character. The character I posted in the last few posts is all my own. It does use Giuseppe's skin. Giuseppe by DarwinsMishap does indeed use Lucas 8. However, this render is all Giuseppe with DM's morphs with Lucas 8:

I think he also looks good without Lucas 8 though so he can be used on just the base G8M and still be a great looking character. Lucas 8 isn't absolutely required. I'm pretty sure the Genesis 8 morphs are required though even if used on the base G8M. I would definitely invest in the G8M Head and Body morphs if you don't already have them.

Well, I was sort of in a way. I really liked how your character made the skin look good. I am considering getting the morphs for gen 8 both male and female. Sometimes other peoples renders makes 'items' look even better. :)

  • I looove the skin and that tattoo! I've been so impressed by the whispy hairs hanging down as I look through all these threads. It always looks great.

Yeah, I love that skin and tattoo, too! :)

That hair is quickly becoming my favorite ponytale so far. It's by OutofTouch (OOT) and it's Super Messy Updo for Genesis 8 Males. Those wisps are great and they have some nice wind and movement morphs to go with them. The color in this last image is one of the original colors that comes with the hair. The color in my images above that with my character are from my own recipe using the UHT2 by Slosh.

I'm not sure I'd phrase it that way. I think DM's skin makes my character look better not the other way around. Lol. He has some mad skills when it comes to skin and tatts.

LOL Maybe how you set-up everything and rendered it. :)

  • I needed a sexy vamp for a project. I didn't quite get the look I wanted. She's a little bit too innocent for what I had in mind. Still, I like how she turned out and I finally put something in my gallery which I haven't done in awhile. So, back to the drawing board for another go at the sexy vamp I was trying to get.

    Innocent Vamp

Is there ever an innocent vamp?? :) She does look good.

@Liana  Thanks.  I think she looks good, too. I don't know if there are innocent vamps or not. I'm sure not all vampires are turned willingly and even new vamps must be innocent at some point. Maybe? Okay, maybe only in my imagination. Even though she wasn't what I was looking for, I do think she turned out rather well. I wasn't too sure of the blood. I used a new technique for that using the .psp layers in Ron's Blood 2 instead of the brushes themselves. I think it turned out okay. I need to practice the technique more, but it was cool to learn a new technique.

edit: forgot to ding Liana's name so she gets notified so I fixed that.

Oh, nice! I don't think I'd seen that before. You did a great job with him. I think that's the gentlest I've seen a vampire ever. Is that one of RawArt's vamps or someone else? I think I have Nosferatu, but I don't have his latest one yet. I had to wishlist that one when it came out.

Lol thanks, I based him on https://www.daz3d.com/vladimir

Can't remember what skin I used without digging him up though, but it had really nice displacement maps;)
