Love looking through all the renders, including the cartoons. A great variety and wonderful compositions. I had a couple pages to catch up on!

Thanks everyone for the nice words. It does pay to step out of your comfort zone at times. So, here is another image of @DarwinsMishap's Athana. I'm not really happy with the original render. I flubbed up the lighting I think which did not do her skin justice. It's an amazing skin. I had a couple more techniques I wanted to try so I played around with it a bit. It was really fun to see how it all evolved as I was going along.

Now, this is my favorite render of Athana so far! I love how it turned out even without postwork. I did do just a little color adjustment in the second image. I think I even managed to get her wonderful skin to show off fairly well. I'm happy with it anyway.

    Raw render:

  • Thanks, @Liana. :)

  • That last one is definitely my favorite- thank you!

I'm glad you like it @DarwinsMishap. Thank you for letting me test her out and play with her. I kind of knew this last one was going to be good when I was putting it together. I just had no idea it was going to be that good. I'm rather proud of myself with this one. Now, I'm just trying to figure out if I want to put her in my gallery now or wait until she makes her way to the Daz store. Decisions, decisions.  :)

I really like how her skin and tattoos are highlited in the last one.  Love the pose as well.  Getting pushed out of one's comfort zone may be uncomfortable but I think good things come of it!

    Happy Birthday!

It's your birthday? Cool. Happy Birthday, and may it be the best one yet.

  • KnittingmommyKnittingmommy Posts: 8,191

@IceDragonArt and @L'Adair   Ah, thanks, guys! Yes, it was my birthday. My guys all took me out to dinner and it was great. I had a nice ribeye steak cooked perfectly and a pile of slow-cooked green beans at the local Cracker Barrel. Aren't I classy?  Lol. Awesome food though the service was a little slow. I managed to bring home two more sets of salt and pepper shakers for my collection. I now have a pig (pepper) and a cow (salt) and a rooster and a hen. I didn't look to see which one was which yet. I'm guessing the rooster is the pepper. I made a Low Carb Chocolate Cheesecake that was to die for instead of a birthday cake since I don't do grain flours or refined carbs. OMG, that was fantastic!

I swear I must be getting senile already. I asked for unsweetened tea with lemon. The waitress brings me tea with no ice! I told my husband that was strange and he tells me I asked for no ice. I swear I don't remember adding that part. I never get my tea with no ice. At least, not unless I'm having hot tea. But, cold tea? That needs to be cold, not tepid. I have no idea where my head was. I guess age will do that to you. I swear I don't feel old enough to be having those kinds of memory lapses yet. Lol.

    Hey, happy birthday, KM!

That recipe really looks yummy.  Did  you use the Swerve sweetener?  I find that the sugar substitutes all have a funny aftertaste.

It was my sister-in-law's birthday this weekend, so I decided to splurge and have a piece of chocolate cake... gluten and all.  It was an experiment to see what would happen. I didn't immediately get a stomach ache, but I felt pretty sluggish.  Let's see what the scale says tomorrow.cheeky  After being on Paleo myself, I am trying to find out what I can tolerate after so many months of clean eating.  Also I wanted stop my craving for deserts by endulging and feeling crappy afterwards, thus showing myself that I can't eat like this all the time.  Now I'm bloated and feeling pretty uncomfortable. It's not worth it.

I did use Swerve. I can't taste any funny aftertaste since it's a blend of erythritol and stevia. I think the blend of the two goes well together. When I use erythritol by itself, I do tend to notice a slight cooling effect almost like when eating a mint. I don't notice that with the stevia/erythritol blends.

Everyone is different though and while I might not taste anything off, some people might be more sensitive than I am. The recipe doesn't call for much. It also calls for more stevia liquid which I try to keep on hand. You might be able to use just stevia if you use it but you'll probably run into some texture issues. I think the little bit of sugar substitute used was for texture. The recipe actually calls Sukin1, I think, which I believe is also an erythritol and stevia blend. I'm not sure as I've never used it. It's not one I can get locally.

One option I've heard about but have not tried is Monkfruit. It's supposed to be very good for those following a low carb/paleo lifestyle. I have no idea what it tastes like but it's something I want to try. It's all natural and more and more companies are using it in commercial products. It's an option you might want to look into.

I would definitely recommend this recipe. It was very good. I did make one slight substitution just because I happened to have it. The crust calls for whey protein powder as one of the ingredients. I had that but I also happened to have chocolate whey protein powder and I used that in the crust to give it an even more chocolatey taste. The regular whey protein powder the recipe calls for would probably be just fine. I would have used that if I hadn't had the chocolate on hand.

I find that I just can't do things with flour in it anymore. I feel so much better on low carb. Anytime I try to splurge on things with sugar or refined flour, I regret it. My joints haven't ached in forever now and I really want to keep it that way. I'm moving easier than I have in years. I feel better, too. I just had blood work done again a couple of weeks ago and everything was in normal ranges which is the first time in years. Even my cholesterol was really good. I've been off cholesterol meds for three months now and it has gone down even more since my last blood work three months ago when I convinced the doctor I didn't need them anymore. Needless to say, she was very pleased to not have to put me back on them. She has been very happy with all of my blood work since I've been on low carb.

So, yeah, I wasn't going to risk all of that with a birthday cake. This cheesecake more than satisfied me and I'm happy with my choices today. You should really try the recipe out. It tastes amazing.

edit: Oops! Thanks for the birthday wishes, @dracorn.  :)

@DarwinsMishap Thank you! I just saw that. I was on there to share a pic of my low carb cheesecake. I responded back so you'll see that next time you log on probably. I'm terrible at FB so but I can usually manage to respond to people. It's all of the other things that challenge me. Lol.

So, I'm sharing a pic of my low carb chocolate 'birthday' cheesecake here, too. Let's see if I can do this correctly. I think I can just link the photo from my FB page.

Curious. This is the first time I'm looking at it close up. Note to self, don't rub the sleep out of your eyes when taking pictures first thing in the morning. Either I have something on my camera lense, always possible, or there is an eyelash on my plate! Ug! Oh well, I ain't changing it out for another picture. I already ate the one slice of cheesecake I plan to eat today. It was actually a nice decadent belated birthday breakfast dessert. Shh! Don't tell anyone.

@dracorn  I don't like stevia as much on its own but I don't mind it mixed with other sweeteners. I've heard some good things about monk fruit. I've also heard others say they don't like it. One of these days, I'll try it out and see what I think about it. I've also heard good things about alulose. I haven't tried that either but someone on another forum recently said they made low carb ice cream with it and it was the best ice cream they'd ever had. So, it might be worth a look, too.

    Happy Birthday, KM!

I've made ice cream out of frozen bananas and protein powder before. I use really ripe bananas (overly ripe so much of the starch has converted to sugars) that I cut into slices and then freeze overnight. Some powders work better than others (I found the Labrada Lean Body works well). The banana slices need to be really frozen, and a powerful blender with stacked blades is a must.

It may not be sugar free, but you could choose protein powder with artificial sweeteners if you wish (leaving just the sugars in the bananas). It's really creamy right after making it, so I suggest eating it immediately. Storing it in the freezer will kill whatever creaminess there was since there's not many sugars and no fat.

Thanks, @Algovincian! I love bananas but I haven't had them in a while since they are so high in carbs. They aren't on my eating plan right now. I plan to add them back in at some point when I get down to my goal weight and can start adding back in some of the healthier higher carb foods like most fruits. I will keep your suggestion in mind though. I'm getting used to using protein powder and I have some favorites that I use all of the time now. I've done the same with berries that I can eat currently and frozen berry smoothies/ice cream is one of my favorite desserts. I bet the banana version is fantastic! Luckily, I'm the proud owner of two powerful blenders that I  use frequently.  :)

Happy belated b-day! Cake looks good!

I must admit I am very much a sugar lover. Most sugar substitutes taste off or give me headaches. Or both. But then, I don't have any ill effects from sugar (and gluten) and I don't really use that much sugar on a daily basis, so guess I'm good.

Thanks! It was good. It still surprises me when I read labels just how much sugar is in things. And, they have a ton of different names! Unfortunately, I was getting close to being pre-diabetic and my numbers were making my nurse practioner very nervous. That, with the extra weight I carry, was a recipe for disaster if I didn't change something. So, since I had done well on Atkins before I decided to try it again. I soon remembered just how restrictive I found it the last time which is why I had stopped despite losing a lot of weight. So, after doing research, I decided on a low carb high fat (LCHF) diet. I'm not strict keto but close.

I'm happy to say all of my blood test results are now within normal ranges and my A1C is well within normal ranges. I've also managed to get off of my cholesterol meds and my cholesterol levels are bette than they have ever been even off the meds. That all has to do with my diet. The best part is that my joints no longer ache. I feel better than I have in years and I'm losing weight. 41 pounds so far since May of last year. So, not the huge amounts that a lot of people lose. It's slow but it's steady and I love it when I need smaller clothes.

All I can say is that I love feeling and being healthier. It is definitely not the right thing for everyone. I'm not the type of person who advocates someone changing their lifestyle or eating habits if what they are doing is working for them. But, I don't mind talking about what I'm doing and how it's working if anyone is interested. And, I'm not opposed to sharing pictures of good food. I tend to do that on my FB page when I make something that really blows me away. :)

Health is the most important thing, yes. And even that is very personal. What works for one, is a death sentence for others. More or less anyway.

Good to hear you managed to get off the cholesterol meds by changing your diet! As for losing weight.. slow and steady wins the race.

I've been lucky with my weight so far. I don't have to do much to stay at a healthy weight. I am no fan of soft drinks and we usually cook with fresh ingredients and preferably organic. I like to know what I put into my mouth, which means we hardly use any prefab stuff and when we do, it's organic, with few ingredients and all identifiable by name. So I don't really feel bad for eating a little piece of chocolate with my evening tea :)

    Happy belated birthday KM! :)

Great to hear about your diet has helped you get off your cholestrol meds. It is just not good all the way around to be taking meds and multiply ones too. After my short stint as a nurse and what i seen. It is more than half the problems that older folks have other than the horrible processed food (mostly from china) they feed them in the nursing homes.

My partner likes lots of sweets which does not help me any, when it comes to weight. We fresh and organic as much as possible here too. He has a few issues like not too many teeth left and a digestive system that keeps him on his toes and me. lol I tell him there is only so much I can do the rest you have to do yourself. :) I know i will be glad when all this snow is finally gone. I need to be outside moving around, but 24 inches of snow in 2 weeks kind of does not help that. lol

Yes. I've tried a lot of diets and not every diet is going to work for everyone. A person just needs to experiment and find the woe eating that works for them. Low carb isn't suitable for every person. It's just what works for me. I like how I feel and I think I'll be eating this way for a good long while. I do like how it forces me to cook more because I can't eat most processed foods on this diet. That alone turns most people off because a lot of people don't cook anymore. A person just has to find what works with their body chemistry.

That's good that you manage to stay at a healthy weight so easily. I envy that. I wish I could do that. I think using fresh ingredients is key. I like that I know all of the ingredients I'm putting in my mouth now, not a lot of chemicals I can't pronounce.

Thanks! Yeah, I was very happy to kick the cholesterol meds. I hate taking pills. I especially hate taking meds where you have to have blood work while you are on them to make sure your liver is doing okay with the meds. I'm going to do my best to keep that cholesterol down. I'm not really much of a sweets person. I like the occassional treat like at birthdays but I don't usually indulge at other times. My downfall has always been pasta and breads. I think that's one reason why low carb works for me. I really miss the pasta and bread, but eliminating them from my diet has done wonders for me.

That's a lot of snow! Hopefully, you'll be out from under it soon. :)

I miss bread the most I think.  Although the longer I don't have it, the less I miss it.  Pasta, I very occasionally will want something like Olive Gardens mushroom raviolli but its honestly not worth the stomach ache after eating it lol.  I am going to try your chocolate cheesecake recipe, it looks yummy, and it will make a nice treat.  I got an ice cream maker for christmas, I want to make some Paleo ice cream.  Who knew you could make low carb ice cream?

I usually tend towards a low carb food in the summer, without even planning much on that. During the colder month I need my carbs or I'm freezing to death, start shaking when I didn't eat something for a certain time.
