What CMS (Content Manager database System) are you using under 4.8? When SmartContent first came it was based on Valentina, but ugraded somewhere around 4.5 to Postgres, but the old has been there still (there have been upgrade scripts in DIM for that). 4.9 does no longer support Valentina, so that might be the issue.
In 4.8 check under preferences and the CMS tab what you are using.
Did the Valentina to Postgres update a long time ago (BTW was no fun because lots of settings got lost and it took me days to get all back). 4.8 does not tell me anything about which CMS it is using in the Pref tab but i checked the content of the CMS folder and the ContentCluster dir locks like postgres.
OK, then it's postgres ;-)
I run 4.9 on three machines (went from 4.8) but it as it works under 4.8 it cannot be anything with OS permissions. Do you have any entries in the 4.9 Studio log regarding CMS connection, something similar to this (but says failing)
Creating Asset Manager...
Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4 on x86_64-apple-darwin, compiled by i686-apple-darwin11-llvm-gcc-4.2 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Based on Apple Inc. build 5658) (LLVM build 2336.9.00), 64-bit
From the 'product migration' process of 4.9s initial run i have entries like:
2017-05-11 16:39:17.127 WARNING: /src/sdksource/cloud/dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(178): Query (INSERT INTO "tblProductContent" (
"fldContent", "fldProduct", "fldIsVendor" )

DETAIL: Key (guid)=(e6cbfe24-525c-4481-8034-d4b414ab2616) already exists.
So the database is running and connected.
Yes, but if you remove the log.txt and start 4.9, what does it say?
You can have 4.8 and 4.9 in different folders under /Applications/DAZ 3D
i know ;-)
well started 4.9 again and the log says:

Besides some iray related warnings all seems to be fine. Well iray in 4.9 finaly works with my GTX980 so i hope there is a solution for the smart content issue.
OK, it did connect - so hmm, maybe look at the postgres logs in ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster/dblog.txt
I'm off for dinner soon , will reply later... (European time zone)
Aha found this:
LOG: database system was shut down at 2017-05-11 17:27:19 CEST
LOG: autovacuum launcher started
LOG: database system is ready to accept connections
FATAL: pg_hba.conf rejects connection for host "[local]", user "stefan", database "postgres", SSL off
Dinner at half past five? i am at GMT+1 here.
i modified pg_hba.conf to reject connections in general and after doing so a db connection failed dialog poped up during start of DS. From that i assume it is normal that the login user has no access to the db.
Same, but I needed a grocry run first ;-)
Hmm, you have a weird problem. How did you install DS 4.9? BitRock or DIM?
No no DS has a weird problem ;-) Install was done by DIM and should be fine as everything else seems to work.
Maybe with the new Connect/DRM thingy the CMS does not like the hundreds of manual entries i made to the db over the past years.
There is an update run (rebuild of db) for 4.9 (more tables and fields I guess, maybe that fails for some reason.
You could try to export userdata, reset DB, and then reimport metadata, but do a copy of the DBs first ;-)
/ Totte
Ok, will try that tomorrow. I do have a TimeMachine backup of the db anyway so just in case restore is an easy going. Does the 'export userdata' export ALL data including my manual entries?
That's what it's supposed to do, I have used it a few times and it has worked, but it's software... lol
Ok startet the export will take some time to finish... DS did not ask me for a file name, where will the exported data be written to?
Ends up I think in Runtime/Support I think
/Totte
Nope its not there and no entry in the log file about it! Who programed that f... Do you know the file name want to delete it after reimport.
Now import is running and takes ages
Import finished, SmartContent is back BUT all of my db entries are lost -> completely useless BS ... i give up and switch back to 4.8
did you look at the userdata file?
I wanted to but cant find it.
Made a 2nd attempt by importing only the user data -> same result:(
I already wasted too much time with this nonsense. They screwed something up for the sake of Connect, well their problem. I am out of the update cycle. Maybe when they arrive at Genesis10 their products may catch my interest again, who knows.
Thanks for your Help!!
Has anyone used Chetah3d? It's a modeler program.
I've used Chetah3D alot until I got Modo two years ago, still use it for some things. It do has have some quirks but other things it just does great.
That it's a mac program, built for mac users, sounds appealing to me.
Hi everyone,
I have problem please help me!
I have mac pro 3.1 2008 2x2.8 cpu 16g memory SSD 256G, gtx 750ti and 760 with web driver and Bootcamp windows 10.
In mac osx el capitan daz3d is very slow reading scene(a little complex, 6 characters (each have hairs, shoes and clothes), and architectures in it) and navigate preview scene.
but strangely in bootcamp windows 10, daz3d read more fastly the same scene and navigating preview scene is very smooth and fast.
I don't know why. I want to use mac os but I can't.

Have you set the Graphics optimization to best in preferences?
Also, often nVidia drivers are much more optimized for Windows.
Since my last Mac update, I cannot get Daz to start. It crashes on start. I've re-installed, both downloaded and with DIM, but nothing.
Model: MacBookPro9,1, BootROM MBP91.00D3.B15, 4 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.3 GHz, 16 GB, SMC 2.1f175
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Built-In
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, PCIe, 512 MB
Am I missing something that I was supposed to do during startup? I left everything as default.
What other crash report information can I post to help solve the issue? I could use my PC to do my Daz work, and it's possible I'll go that route, but I love my Mac, and it was totally working until last night when the update happened. Any advice would be helpful. thanks.
Which Mac OS X version? I know apple screwed up with the latest when the decided to hide crashlogs from the normal users. But you should be able to see them if you is logged in as a sudo user (can admin). /Applications/Utilities/console.app, there on the sidebar you should be able to find crashlogs, open, copy text and paste in a post, might give me a clue on what goes wrong. I still dont use 10.12 Sierra as I think it's a real step down. 10.11 was pretty OK for being a "post Jobs" OS X.
Possibly that's where I went wrong. I updated to 10.12.5 . I see lots of crash logs, but not sure which one to use.
