I have OS X Lion on a donated Mac Pro a1178 I use as my backup workstation I installed Daz 4.12 but when I try to run it it just crashes instantly. I'm not in a hurry to run out and buy a new Mac as this is simply a backup computer but I'd like to see if I can get Daz to work on it before I decide to rid myself of it or not. Help me out please.

Lion is really an old system; is it possible for you to update? Also, how much ram do you have and how much space on the hard disk? Being more precise about your system configuratione can help us to understand how to possibly help you.

I wouldn't run it on a system older than 10.9 or even 10.11

I read that in Catalina 10.15, Quicktime has been removed. From the article, in AppleInsider.com, it sounded like movie files would not be playable in Catalina. Is this true? Would there be no way to play files such as the following: .wmv, .mp4, .avi, .mov, .flv, .mpg, .divx ?

Also, it said that iTunes has been removed. If I have songs I have bought, would they still be playable? I have also composed some on Garageband. Would those tunes still be playable?

I don't run 10.15 so I cannot answer, but someone running it might be able to answer.

Catalina doesn't support 32 bits applications anymore, so Quicktime 7 won't work with it. Quicktime X works, but AFAIK it doesn't support all formats QT7 did.

I was told, on the Apple Discussions, that QuickTime Player is still included in Catalina, so that I could play all of the file types. I think it's just that to record something new, one must use Quicktime X. Similarly, I was told, iTunes is gone, but with the new Music, all of those old files should play.

I'm running macOS 10.15.4 on my iMac and QuickTime 10.5 is included and does play movies. In the drop-down menu under the File option, there are options for "New Movie Recording," "New Screen Recording," and "New Audio Recording." I don't know what exactly you're looking for, but I hope this helps answer your question.

It does. Thank you very much for the info.

For anyone running Catalina: Is it slower rendering in DAZ Studio, due to the deprecation of Open GL and Open CL? Or, do you notice any differences over earlier Mac OSes?

How is 3rd party content added as a Mac User? For instance if I go to Renderosity and get something. How do I get the files into Daz? Thanks for your help.

You can use my little program "RendoInstall" that can be downloaded here: RendoInstall from 4Eyes

For all who run macOS 10.15.3+ Catalina and after installing DAZ Studio, or updating macOS to 10.15.3+ run into the issue with "A valid postresSQL connection could not be established, I've created a little fixertool that sets the correct owner of the ContentCluster directory.

I downloaded but haven't tried it yet. Question: Does RendoInstall create files that the DIM understands, so that the product can then be installed and, perhaps, uninstalled via DIM?

Is anyone using the latest Macintosh version of DAZ Studio, 4.12.x, with Macintosh OS Sierra? (I'm on Sierra 10.12.6.) If so, does DS 4.12 work satisfactorily? Does it have problems that did not appear in v 4.11?

Nope - it installs the same way DIM installs, except it does not do anything metadata.

4.12.0.86 is what I use, that version works well with Iray and nVidia GPUs too.

I downloaded DAZ Studio v 4.12.0.86, and am using it with OS Sierra, 10.12.6. Works fine. Just thought I'd mention it in case someone else is wondering about whether or not to update.

HALLELUJAH! With the latest update the menu problems are finally solved!

Yes, I'm aware that it was solved a long time ago in the public beta. But I had other problems with the public beta... which, to be fair, I didn't really follow up on with customer service. Maybe they could have solved that. But hey, all of that is irrelevant now, because the main version finally works!

    laugh

  • Does anyone else here use an nVidia card on an eGPU? I just updated DS and my 1080 is no longer appearing on the hardware list...

nVidia has deprecated CUDA support on OS X in the latest Iray version.

Yeah, I was aware of that, but everything was still working until I updated Studio last night. Does this mean I'm either trying to run down the last version or am I shopping for a Windows machine?

I would say try to get 4.12.0.86 back. But, in the long run, Apples feud with nVidia put us mac users on the losing side in this, so to be able to utilize newer things in DS, Windows machine with RTX cards is probably the only route ahead.

By the way, a new update for DS is in the DIM today. It's number is 4.12.1.117. (I think, doing this from memory.) Also a new update to the Go-Z for DS.

Copy your Studio64 folder in /Application/DAZ 3D before installing if you want to keep GPU rendering, otherwise the new Iray has some cool things, but keep both if you render with GPU

  • Thanks! I think I can transfer the copy I have on my laptop.

The Studio64 folder? I didn't copy it, but I have it on a backup drive. After the new install, it contains items for GoZ. Is that what it should have? I'll include a screen shot.

There may be problems with the lastest Mac version of DS, 4.12.1.117. It seems to crash a good deal. Also, I tried saving a file, and I got a warning that the  file failed to save, and, of course, to check the Log File. I'll attach the Log File Warnings. What do they mean?

Now, this latest version does seem to render faster. But, when I click "render," I get the message "Unable to Render. Render is already in Use." I click "OK," and then the render does begin. Again, Screen Shot:

In my DIM, not in updates, but in the regular list of items that may be downloaded, are Genesis Starter Essentials and also two other items with Genesis 2 GeoGraft Male and Genesis 2 GeoGraft Female. Should I download and install these? I did download these, I'm almost positive, long before now. Also, I have more than one Content Database. Genesis is in one place (Documents) and Genesis 2, 3, and 8 are in another place (Shared).

Should the Genesis go in the Content Database with Genesis, and should the Genesis 2 go in the Shared data base? I'm not sure where these files belong, if I were to download them. Screen Shot for this included.

One more set of questions: When I start the DIM, I get a set of Default Install Sets. I understand what some of these are, but I don't know what the "DM's Memorial DS" package is. Also, I don't know what the "DAZ Studio iRay HDR Outdoor Environments" package is. Anybody know? Should I download these?
