There should only be one database, even if products are installed to different content folders (directories).

The last render I did with DS went very quickly. In the Render Settings tab, it does show several choices. I'll include a Screen Shot of the choices. I had it set to iRay.

When I clicked Save for the File Itself (not the render), DS Quit again. I have restarted it, and it appears that it did save the file. I just clicked Save again.  It appears to have saved and quickly. It did not quit. In the Log File, I still see the warnings, but it does acknowledge that it saved the file. Here's a copy of the last part of the Log File:

Now, this latest version does seem to render faster. But, when I click "render," I get the message "Unable to Render. Render is already in Use." I click "OK," and then the render does begin. Again, Screen Shot:

    I've reported that bug already.

OK, so what does this mean? I think it means that I can download the Genesis Starter Essentials,  the Genesis 2 Starter Essentials 3DPrint GeoGraft Female, and the Genesis 2 Starter Essentials 3DPrint GeoGraft Male, all without causing any problems. Is that what it means? Maybe these are updates I should have. Is that it?

Also, where is the DS database? Knowing that, I think, will help me.

By the way, a new update for DS is in the DIM today. It's number is 4.12.1.117. (I think, doing this from memory.) Also a new update to the Go-Z for DS.

Copy your Studio64 folder in /Application/DAZ 3D before installing if you want to keep GPU rendering, otherwise the new Iray has some cool things, but keep both if you render with GPU

Sorry to be so dense, but what am I rendering with if I have iRay selected in DS v. 4.12.1.117? I was never an Nvidia Graphics Card user, so am I affected in Nvidia's removing CUDA support for Mac users? My video cards in the 2013 Mac Pro I'm using are  Two AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB cards.

The usual place for the cms is ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster

If you go to Content Directory Manager it will show the location of the CMS database.

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,202

OK, I show that. I have that in ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster. Thanks for the information. So, is it all right to download these Starter Essentials. They won't cause any disruption?

OK, thank you. Yep, just checked that out on my computer. Thanks again. So, can I safely download the Starter Essentials?

Yes, not sure why you don't have Genesis Starter Essentials if you use Genesis, but the GeoGrafts won't affect anything, they're just for closing up the holes in the mesh for 3d printing.

    Hi Totte,

I am having HUGE trouble with establishing a valid PostgreSQL CMS connection on my MacOS Mojave 10.14.6. The interesting part that ContentCluster folder is also MISSING on my Mac even after three attempts to install DAZ Studio. Can you help me?

I opened a ticket with DAZ Technical support a few days ago. Nobody is answering. So this forum is my last hope.

As I said, when I open freshly installed DAZ Studio 4.12.1, I get the warning - "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established..." My DAZStudio log file is full of warnins like this one:

    WARNING: /src/sdksource/cloud/

    dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(178): Unexpected exception in categoryGetRoot:

Unable to connect to the database

    Or like this one:

WARNING: /src/sdksource/cloud/ dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(178): Unexpected exception in CloudFIle::lookupFromDb: Unable to connect to the database

When I was trying to find the file dblog.txt, I could not! The folder ContentCluster is missing. My first thougt was that the folder and file are there but they are hidden. Nope, when all the files on my Mac are unhidden, it changes nothing.

When I try to change the portal number, the old number reappears. In effect, I am unable to change the port number. Also I tried to make special rules for DAZ in the firewall. It did not make any difference.

So I am stuck. Looking for help.

Iknow someone else is having the same issue. I just got an idea, who is the owner of the cms-folder in ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/?

But if I don't have an Nvidia Graphics Card, I don't need to worry about backing up the Studio64 folder, right? (I did not back it up, but I can copy it from a backup drive that still has the version previous to 4.12.1.117.

I'm still curious about what am I rendering with if Nvidia removed CUDA from the latest DS version. I still have iRay selected in the Render Settings. The renders are noticebly faster, too. Am I rendering just with the CPU? Maybe I don't understand what CUDA is or does.

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,202

While version 1.12.1.117 tends to crash when I click Save File, it appears to actually save the file. When I restart, I don't see that anything is missing. (Running Mac OS 10.12.6.)

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,979

Yes -Iray is faster, and without nVidia GPU you can upgrade without any problems.

Okay, I'm clearly dim (get it? dim...also DIM? Okay, not funny...first cup of coffee) - Brand new install of Catalina (upgrade from Mojave) and a brand new install of DAZ. The CMS refuses to start with the PostgresSQL error. I can't for the life of me find the start/stop scripts. I looked in /library and /myname/library ...

I looked around the web and the forum and am unable to see anything that addresses the issue. I accepted all defaults. The ontly thing I didn't do on install was install some of the default content packages. (Day at the beach...etc.).

    Anyone have thoughts?

Okay, I successfully got a file to load (whereas before it wouldn't) and render in iRay on a Mac (CPU).

Where are we tracking known defects for 4.12 on Catalina?

I have a long post over on the DAZ Studio 4.12 Pro, General Release, Page 17. It's here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/5584611#Comment_5584611

It's about Default Install Sets that hover over my DIM, and my trying to install them, but the installs failing, and yet the Default Insatll Sets return each time I start the DIM. Can someone please take a look and see if you can figure this out for me?

  • DkalDkal Posts: 18

I upgraded to 4.2.1.117 using the DIM. Since then, switching the viewport window from the "Texture Shaded" mode to the "NVIDIA Iray" mode crashes Daz Studio and, more importantly, I haven't been able to render in Iray on my Mac (OS X El Capitan 10.11.6). Trying to do an Iray render now either crahes Daz Studio or gives me a blank image. I rely on Iray for my renders but I've noticed that even 3Delight renders aren't working right now. They take "forever" to finish rendering.

I need to get back to work and rendering in Iray again, SOON! If this can't be fixed soon then I'd like to revert to the last general release version. That worked just fine and I'd be happy to even manually install it if it couldn't be done via the DIM. The only issues with that is that I no longer have the installer for the last version and can't find it anywhere either.

I don't have an NVIDIA graphics board in my Mac. I'm just trying to do a CPU render like I always have in the past. Never had this issue until the 4.12.1.117 update.

Since updating a couple of days ago, I'm no longer able to render with Iray. I'm just getting a transparent or black screen. I'm a total newbie, so I'm not sure if it's something I've done to mess things up, or if it's the new update. When I switch to 3Delight it renders fine.

3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB

The errors from the log file are:

Does anyone know if there's a problem with the latest version of DS for my older iMac, and, if so, is it possible for me to roll back to a previous version? I know my Mac is ancient, but it was able to render in Iray last week!

Is anyone else using High Sierra having problems with the latest update [4.1.1.117 Pro Edition (64-bit)]?

I have constant crashes when trying to save. I also have a lot of "Failed to save file" errors, followed by a crash and the complete loss of the .duf file.

Oh and when I first save a new file there are always two save windows popping up.

I've had few issues with the previous version.

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,979

    Yes I have.
    - Sometimes crash on save duf - I try to save with a new name to avoid crashing while overwriting the old save.
    - Terminate (not crash) after render, the render can be found in the DS temp folder(forgot the filename just now)
    - Dual save dialogs when hitting CMD-S to save
    - "Render Busy" error alerts and render starts when closed
    - Error saving file, often works second time, I guess that has to do with the render busy error (failing to render thumbnail)

How do you save with a new name when "Save As" only gives you subset and preset save options?

I haven't had problems with renders yet, but I'm not doing much rendering with files crashing and duf files evaporating.
