It's definitely the smooth corners and edges- wow, it took out the entire hair! Learning experience. (But that's why I asked on another thread, lol.) Not going to redo the hair, but here's a screenshot of the render (not spot render) and I moved the head way up so the hair would be what showed first when rendered. As you see, it has strands now and isn't bright blonde.
Thanks for the heads up!
EDIT: It's the Edge Interpolation, not the smoothing setting.
Glad you woke up, lol- you're making perfect sense. I just posted that it was indeed the edge interpolation smooth/smooth setting that got me the skullcap. Well, this thread is for people to learn from, so I just educated them along with myself, lol. I'm going back to sharp/sharp!
Chiara (V6)- YES WITH THE V5 PONYTAIL HAIR
I felt I owed it to the poor woman. I had deprived her of the luxurious locks and presented her with a shaved head. So I'm presenting her with lighting that I really, really like- I'm delighted! You know, when you get that tingly feeling when a render is coming in and you're holding your breath as each line comes in horizontally (that's the way I have mine set up.) I love the shadows on the hair behind the ear which offsets the overall blonde and gives depth. This was my longest render at 16 hours. (Shudder, hate to think if Cassini was in the picture!)
So now I can say from MY experience- V6 works with the V5 Ponytail Hair! Thanks SO much for the folks who stepped up and told me there was something funky with my poor gal. Appreciate you!
Cathie
EDIT: You Just HAVE to click and enlarge and click again, these details are awesome!
Chiara's Light Set- My Combination
What those lights looked like in the viewport. If you're using the Nyssa character as a base, you may be finding her skin renders fairly dark if you aren't messing with the surface settings. (In Surface tab.) I'll post some lights, their color combinations, and intensities for you that helps showcase darker or olive skin, and they also work well on lighter skin in a darker setting. You may have noticed in the Pure Hair renders that I have been tweaking and experimenting. Each one is different. It's hard when you have two skin types in one render!
There is a white spotlight at 23% coming in straight from the front.
Distant light (peach/coral) 255 / 218 / 196 on the right. 46.1%
Point light (titled overhead glow because it glows almost everything) 255 / 214 / 193 65.2% and it's just a TAD bit more red
Distant light (light/med. blue) on left 229 / 243 / 255 79.6%
Spotlight on jawline and neck- I really worked on this!- a lavender 200 / 191 / 180 only 9.6%
THIS IS THE MAIN ONE that makes a difference. You can see where it impacts the cheek where the blush is, I will soften that a bit more
next time I use this set. But Chiara has a LOT of blush (annoying) so using lavender offsets it.
So give this combo a try on your olive or darker skinned people and see how you like it.
Novica's Figures List
This list is WIP for models I own or wishlist. It may NOT be reproduced or posted elsewhere, is copyright protected and will eventually be on my website. I am NOT trying to cover all of DAZ, but I have about 4,000 products so this covers a lot.
This is a great reference for deciding what you want to download/install- looking for The Girl 4 clothes or poses? Check here and look toward the end of each list.
Most of the time, the order will be:
The main figure, then: Genesis Figures, The Victorias,V4 Elite, Michaels, The Hiros, The Aikos, The Stephanies, The Girl, Kids, and Anything Else
(In other words, if it is for Aiko 4, she'll be listed first)
I am also noting what outfit is required for the product. I am SO tired of trying to guess by the title! (You too, right?) It will be in parenthesis.
Although clothing and poses are the main emphasis, if I see a set has poses, I'll list it. You'll see (Set, poses) Texture sets are not listed unless they have a different name from the clothing.
How the list is generated: As you know, product page descriptions and the "compatible 3D figures" often don't both have the information. Every product here has been researched using the product page description and the information at the bottom of the page. These are the official "who the figure is for" and not "who this will work with." If you think you've found an error- CHECK THE PRODUCT PAGE FIRST PLEASE. Then let me know if there's something wrong. This is VERY time consuming and not my main priority, it's for my personal use and I am sharing. Hope you find it useful- it will be a link in my first post- I am going back and changing that to make it easy for you.
When I do a review and post images, you'll see the link next to the title.

Pharoahs Of The Sun For Genesis Female
http://www.daz3d.com/pharaohs-of-the-sun-for-genesis-female
You have two choices of headdresses, and Cassini is wearing the Cobra. The full height isn't shown. It's a round ball nestled in two curvy prongs. It's tall, it looks exotic, and you can always use the vulture headdress. You can go view the headdresses and figure out how they look cobra or vulture- I didn't scrutinize them but if you are thinking you are going to see critters, it's not like that. (Okay, there are small cobras, going vertically, holding up the stones.)
Watch out for bending arms and motion- the collar (fancy, looks like necklace) will embed in the dress material.
This is Cassini, V5, and this is a V5 item. It also exists for V4.
And let's get fancy. Add some accessories:
http://www.daz3d.com/fantasy-accessories-for-pharaohs-for-genesis-female
And here's something I wanted to point out- talk about changing the dress! All these (including original dress) are platinum items- scarf 'em up!
http://www.daz3d.com/her-elegance
EDIT: Also wanted to mention doing the hair with the headpiece was EASY. And Cassini has a lot of hair. You can adjust the width and height of the headpiece, then go and shrink your hair/ decrease its WIDTH so the bangs don't overlap. Watch for strand pokethrough at the upper sides. Took two minutes to fit to Cassini.
EDIT: Did a render and just got the top part of the headdress so you can see the golden orb.
Here's what's coming up later today: will start render in a few minutes and it'll be 6-7 hours. I'm showcasing a lot of different products- let's kit bash!

Part of the Defiant product description:
"...13-piece 3D clothing set with 4 props fits both male and female shapes, and includes swords and hand poses..."
Okay, so I'm going to take you a totally different direction and show you how the tunic makes an interesting piece by itself without the pants-perhaps as a working-class garment- and pair it with the MALE Pharoahs of the Sun For Genesis Male sandals- for my female Cassini! (V5)
The female sandals were too colorful with blue, red, etc beading- the male sandals are what you want for neutral colors.
So we're going for a "hard to put my finger on a time period" and I wanted to showcase the barn. Also wanted to provide some ideas on neutral-age things which can be used for almost any time period that could be found in an outdoor building (not necessarily where animals are kept.)
Keep in mind barns are often used for storage for things people have outside, then decide not to use- so it's often a hodge podge of "keep it handy in case it's needed" or long forgotten items. I'm sure having clutter is not a new thing that only our generation can proudly claim.
So consider these for fillers inside your barn:
DMs Instances: the old wheel (there's two different ones, I only used one)
DMs Instances: the round, wooden half barrel planter
Farm Fencing: the stall door- yes, that's a stall door! Use z to rotate it (and x to translate) it against a wall. It is a nice bulky item that
will take up room and if done correctly, you can't tell it's a stall door.
Le Village Tree Pack: the long rectangular planter at the back. It's a cream color so you'll need to change the color if you don't want to draw too much attention to it. (Select planter in Scene by using Surface Selection Tool (looks like three sheets of black paper) and clicking on the planter. Go to Surfaces tab/Editor setting.) Changed the diffuse to 148/129/79 Otherwise, it will draw too much attention.
Note how to give a deserted look, it's embedded in the hill of dirt. It's just been left behind and not dragged out for use in a very long time.
Medieval Barn: the chicken crate (sitting back on the rectangular planter) which you'll REALLY have to shrink unless you want it to dominate a sceen! I also changed the surfaces on that- gray in diffuse.
Medieval Barn: rope which is in the half barrel planter. The rope does NOT bend- but you can use rotate to do it sideways and lay it against the wall of a container- works great. The rope is thick so it has enough substance that it would stay upright if tucked far enough down.
Medieval Barn: hay fork. Note: people who have barns are usually VERY careful not to leave those laying flat- you step on one end and BOING- it hits you in the face. So if you're trying to be realistic, that's one tool to lean against the wall/keep it out of the way.

TIP: Making Hay Bales Realistic
Here is the first image- the original. Next post- I've provided the one with postwork that addresses the stiff bale strands and the hay on the floor overlapping with items in the scene. The main area to address for hay is her sandals- walking through the hay would stir it up and she'll have it against her shoes. The base of the ladder, wood, wheel, barrel crate, and planter in back have all had hay "stirred up."
So how do you mess up those hay bales? In addition to crisscross hatch marks, (think x's but do NOT cross at the center- most of the time they are more realistic crossing just barely at the tips) you need some lopsided V's. Hay is not always stiff, but when it bends under pressure it makes V's (again, LOPSIDED, one side longer than the other) and also can be fluid if it has just entered the golden stage. (Green is more fluid.) Think of a few squibbles thrown in there. (My word for carefully planned scribbles.)
My review of the barn is mixed. The hay bales- too stiff. No extruding pieces- I've never seen a perfectly square, neatly manicured bale- so that is a "could be better" in my opinion. A few polygonal ribbons should have escaped! (that is probably not the correct modeling term, but you get the gist.) Second, the steps of the ladder look more like a vanity marble surface than a worn, used piece of wood. If you only had the closeup of her hand resting on that surface, you'd swear she was in an elegant bathroom. So I'd avoid the ladder. The Medieval Barn has one- I'll go render it and we'll compare. If it works, substitute it! The same surface unfortunately is on the wall to the right- I don't like it personally. Doesn't look like wood.
TIP: Under AC_BYBarn_1, under Surfaces (using Editor) make the ladder and that wall section (Post) a darker gray so it doesn't stand out like a sore marble thumb!
Also, I changed the color of the sandals to match the sash- they are a gold originally. Which makes them easy to change to whatever color you want.
TIP: Remember the MALE Pharoahs of the Sun sandals for your gals!
Be aware the boards in back of the barn have slits so pick a background color that you want coming through. I went with green as I was thinking barn and pastures. I'd make it a duller olive green if I were doing this again as a render to keep (and darken those barn areas mentioned above.)
Be sure to click to enlarge, and click again, and compare the before postwork hay and after- look at the bottom of all the objects, particularly the sandals as she walks through, and the hay bale. And can you figure out why I changed the pose? Well, her OTHER hand would be raised to shield her eyes- the light is from our left!
EDIT: This was the test render, and you can see her sandals needed adjusting. Another thing I like about colored sandals, you can SEE them better when Y translating to get them level on the ground! Also adjusted the sash.
Here's the corrected hay floor against all the items (ladder, sandals, wheel, wood, back planter) and the new pose. Sandals are now correctly walking on the ground.
EDIT: Note I completely redid the top of the bale in back, in the shadows.
Postwork Corel Photo Paint, just used the eyedropper and selected the same colors as the hay in the areas where I was putting hay in. Nine different colors.
I don't have time to render the ladder from the Medieval Barn, but I it appears to be a better ladder in my opinion. Here's just a screenshot (Not even spot rendered) and you can see it looks more like real wood. I would definitely change to the colors below so it matches the barn better.
TIP: To match THIS barn- change the medieval ladder color (which Diffuse, Specular, Ambient were white/black/black) to a light gray, medium gray, olive green.
Diffuse and Specular- use light gray. Here's two settings for you- one for a more golden brown ladder, and the second, almost a perfect match for this barn. (Took me about twenty minutes, so ENJOY!)
Diffuse 200/193/154, Specular 233's, Ambient 204/196/187
(For a slightly golden look (depending on your lights too)
Then the Diffuse/Specular, Ambient for the match would be:
D: 205/205/205 S:233's A:204 / 196 /187
All settings 100%
The images- the medieval ladder is on the right in each photo.
And not to be lost in all this, the Defiant For Genesis outfit looks great as a tunic dress, without pants. That's what started all of this, lol!
SPOT RENDERS: Gold first, Gray/match second. Medieval Barn ladder.
Coming-
The Defiant For Genesis outfit, with the Medieval Barn ladder with matching settings for the barn. Also darkened the barn "post" that looks like marble- change your diffuse to 183's (blue gray.)
Will be hours. (render started at 7:15pm Central time. Available later tonight.
Defiant For Genesis, continued
Good morning to all my overseas friends (and those who are still awake at 4am stateside and over here in our side of the world!)
As promised, I did the Medieval Barn ladder with those settings that I gave you- I like it much better than the one which came with the barn frankly. And I darked the walls (that glaring white marble "post." I also turned the wheel so you could get a better look at it- be sure and zoom in and look at those textures- awesome!
And Defiant with the other parts of the outfit. Note it comes with other things too- the sword is very nice. And I did the straw floor again, against the objects in the scene.
Hope you like it! If I ever tweak it, I'll change the hand pose on the ladder, but this shows you the adjusted wall color and the ladder quite nicely.
Cathie
EDIT: To really see the difference, look at the wall post (beam) behind her elbow (on your right as you look at it) then click here and look at the bright gray that looks like marble.

58% off
I am not seeing a 58% sale announced, I just got their morning email and it isn't mentioned. You might want to head to the clothing section and poses. There's a lot at 58% off. At almost 60%, it's worth a peek. Not sure if it's a glitch, or if they haven't announced it yet. To be on the safe side, letting my thread viewers know.

Coming up-Cassini in the Black Widow cocktail version of the Morphing Fantasy Dress For Genesis. If you need a sweeping staircase and want to define your colors, consider the Royal Stairs. I used two colors so you could see what a blue hue, and a more brown/neutral hue, would look like. Holiday Nook has a wonderful rug so you don't have to do a shader for the floor. SERIOUSLY people, if you aren't a member of the Platinum Club, you need to look at it if at all possible. You can get that rug for $1.99. You can get the dress for $1.99.
RENDERING NOW. WILL BE MID AFTERNOON AS USUAL.

Here's Cassini in the Morphing Fantasy Dress For Genesis in front of the Royal Stairs. You choose the color of the stairs as it is white. This is with a combination of blues and browns.
I'm not sure why your hay bales are so smooth. Did you apply the material presets HayBale1.pz2 or HayBale2.pz2? This is how they render for me.
It's good to know I overlooked the textures (I am assuming I did- I can't get into the studio at the moment- rendering) I don't recall seeing materials options, but that had to have been there! And I should have KNOWN because I helped LisaDM with her barn scene-LOL. Take a look at this, it's really good! It does remind me more of a short shag carpet though.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/23114/P15/#342774
But distant shots- those textures look like chunks of paper mache- or shredded egg carton. I actually like the smooth bales with quickie postwork a lot better.
Thanks for pointing that out!!!! *smile* I'm going to check and see if I have all the files loaded.
Morphing Fantasy Dress For Genesis
Here's the head closeup so you can see the Morphing Fantasy Dress For Genesis. This dress has amazing morphs, highly recommend. And yes, there is even a sit morph to assist you. It bends the front, sides, lengthens, etc. And one tip- you know how dresses have slits in the side, up to the thigh? If you put one front leg forward with a bend, from the side you can make it look like one of those dresses, without having to mess with the pokethrough! (And it looks elegant.)
There are so many nice options with this dress, be sure and check out the other products! Just type in morphing fantasy dress.
Just got a PM and I will answer it here for everyone-
1. The stairs setting was Diffuse 130/133/133 at 100%, Glossy 97.5%, you can LOWER the glossy to get more shiny like marble-
specular was 142's across the board at 100%, Multiply Through Opacity was on, Ambient was black at 15% strength.
2. There are 4 distant lights (one UberEnvironment), one point light overhead to illuminate everything (gives a nice glow), and only ONE spotlight. The question was, "How many spotlights and point lights did you use?"
Try a point light overhead. All shadow softness was 60% UP. That overhead point light was a bright peach 255/177/146 intensity 120.5% to offset the blues I used in the distant lights. Peach and blues balance each other spendidly- particularly for muted scenes such as dusk or indoor elegant like this one. (Well, at least I think so, lol. Are you folks viewing these thinking, "Ugh." ???) One of the blues, from the right, is 234 / 255 / 255
This would be a good one for depth of field- except I was trying to show you the stairs as a product too.
TIP: Use contrast in subject matter
Side note- and you can probably tell what I used the Spotlight for- see how the stairs are highlighted up the middle? I thought that would be a nice touch. The sides of the stairs on the right go darker. Since she has on a dark dress, you can make it stand out more by LIGHTENING the background. Remember- contrast. *smile* It's subtle, but think how this would look without that one spotlight. (Poor lonely thing, normally there are a lot more!)
Casual 1950 For Genesis Female
Galapagos Tortoise
http://www.daz3d.com/casual-1950-for-genesis-female
http://www.daz3d.com/galapagos-tortoise
I absolutely love this 1950's outfit- it's my "go-to" for when I want to plop a shirt on my model and work with her with clothes on. Very- VERY little tweaking. Same with the pants. Putting the jacket on will require you to possibly increase the bust size of it, and watch the end of the sleeves for going through the hand. It also comes with sunglasses, easy to fit- ALL of the accessories went right where they were supposed to go, no tweaking required. So pick up this outfit and get a necklace and matching earrings, sunglasses, a belt, and a watch! (And yes, it's Platinum Club!) It doesn't really seem out of place for current wear either. The pants are really just basic pants IMO.
Not so with the tortoise. He isn't cheap (but he can be had, lol.) Look at what's included, although I left his facial expression "out of the box." It just went so well with the caption already. And there is a "toony" texture too. Bright green. He's absolutely easy to click on and move- he's so clunky! (Sorry tortoise, I call it like I see it.)

Highly recommend both of these, wishlist the tortoise for when he goes on sale. Faeries can ride him, you can shrink him to any size- he is actually MUCH smaller in this render than "out of the box." Would be a slow, but dependable ride!
TIP: Don't forget to click on Abdomen>yada yada to get to the neck>face and then go into Parameters>morphs and shut the eyes a bit to eliminate that glassy, staring look. Cassini's eyes have been slightly shut in this render, as she is RELAXED.
Also, the tortoise's Surface settings have been changed for the eye. I pulled diffuse down to 80 and glossiness down to 70 so the eye wasn't just flat/dull.
EDIT: Yes, I know they aren't quite on the ground. I had a different ground and didn't check the Y translation of this one. Floating in air- quite talented! (Look closely newbies!)
EDIT: I used Corel Photo Paint and lightened it/did intensity so you can see how it looks lighter.
And now I present...
Title: "My, How You Have GROWN!"
